How many diffrent firmwares are there for this fone?

I want to get this fone but I want it to support Japanese characters and I want to be able to input Japanese text for text messaging and such.

I found a seller on Ebay and he says his is a Taiwainese Firmware, will this have Japanese support?

There are 4 or 5 variants.

No. For proper Japanese input you must have JP firmware. If you only write in Japanese occasionally.. you may be able to get away with any firmware + AL9999's template idea, though it would certainly test my patience before I just decided to write in romaji lol.

All firmwares IIRC can display Japanese, but on the JP firmware allows you native inputting capabilities.

I only require Hirigana input, don't need & can't read Kanji anyways. I want to install a Japanese --> English dictionary. My Toshiba 803T has this feature and its very useful as I am a student of the Japanese language.

for the JP - ENG dictionary you must have the JP firmware. The e-book file will fail to load on any other firmware.

BTW: Are you self-learning? Why would you be a student yet not be learning kanji?

cause he's a JSL student

I tired self learning, and had a hard time focusing, So i enrolled in some formal classes with the Japanese Cultural Center and just finishing up level 1. But I will eventually want to learn Kanji, just want to know how to communicate in Japanese and read Hiragana/Katakana

I guess this is the thread where I should ask my question. I am thinking about buying a 903SH and have a couple of questions. I hope someone can help me... I live in the US and want to use TMobile as my carrier. I want to be able to write kanji as well as hiragana with my emails. That would suggest I should just get keep the original firmware and just unlock the phone, correct? Also, what are the limitations of the 903sh? Am I able to send emails(POP3 is it?) to phones in Japan with kanji/hiragana? Also can I send sha-mail(picture messages) to Japanese as well as American phones? Sorry for all the question, I just want to get the facts straight before I purchase this phone and become disappointed...

i really think an eng >jap, jap > eng, speaking electronic dictionary is better...ehhh?

Posted by: Timsta

you would need euro firmware to do the emailing...
