the smartFlip cancelled all my order cancelled

There is some disturbing news not confirmed yet,htc no longer manufacture phones to I-MATE… As of July 2006 all the new phones will be htc logo and brand

wow, that's sad as they just "released" it like two days ago...

This just makes so much sense. Why would HTC want to continue with Imate, now that they control their own retail distribution channels? I think we could all see this coming since HTC bought Qtek, Then announced HTC branded phones. Imate must have been pooping in their qatari pants for the last couple of weeks.

holy crap

I was wondering what was going to happen to i-mate through all of this... but that was certainly fast. Seems like just yesterday they were promoting their stock and getting lots of press, now they're SOL it seems.

I think either HTC will still produce phones for I-mate, but models that are different from the former QTek/Dopod that their are going to sell under the HTC brand. Else, I-mate can turn to Quanta or some other ODM to make phones for them.

Yes, hopefully they will work out a solution.

From my understanding , they are looking for new design new phone line to be releases late September 2006.
I'm not sure the design by HTC or another company

With all that has then been said, should I switch my order for Qtek 8500 to HTC branded phone?

I don't think that will matter, the press releases (at least so far) have indicated that the new phones coming out will be HTC branded, but the existing phones, which include the StrTrk (including it's variants) will continue to be Dopod/Qtek...there are 2 new phones coming out in July-ish that will be HTC branded.

That doesn't mean it won't change and the StrTrk shows up as HTC eventually, or maybe the next iteration that was rumored w/ a 128mb ROM...but who knows.

I expect that support for Dopod/Qtek will at least get better w/ this b/c it'll all come under one umbrella in order to get the ROM updates...unlike the old world of Dopod/Qtek/I-mate/Audiovox/Orange, yadda yadda yadda...what a nightmare...
