Will a memory card reader work instead of a USB transfer cable for the KX5?

I just bought a memory card reader that will read the micro sd card instead of buying the Overpriced $40 USB transfer cable. If i download the software will the card reader work just as well as having the USB phone-to-computer cable?

Assuming you have the adapter that should've come with the microSD card, then it will work fine as far as transferring data to and from the memory card. Be aware that the USB cable would still be necessary if you want to (a) make changes to the phone's programming, or (b) move ringers, wallpaper, etc. to and from the phone's own file system (not the card).

So i wouldnt be able to use any of the media on the card as either a ringtone or a wallpaper, even if i have the memory stick in?

Actually, yes you can, as long as you can get to those files in your phone thru a directory that is linked to the card, like "Saved Sounds". So you can transfer ringtones, caller ID pictures, etc. And you can transfer pictures you take with your phone camera to your PC. What you CAN'T do through the card is replace your alerts, like your missed call and voicemail alerts. Those alerts are stored in the phone's internal file system and require a program like QPST to access them. You have to delete one of the defaults like "freeway.mid" and then replace it with your own alert sound, having the same filename.
