Nokia N80 Firmware Upgrade....... Big Regret :(

Hi.

As you might have noticed, I posted a thread about upgrading the firmware of the Nokia N80 by myself. I'm glad I didn't!

I took it to my local Nokia Service centre and they upgraded it for me from:

v 3.0614.0.3
11-04-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (58.01)

to:

v 3.0617.0.6
03-05-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (58.01)

The main differences (that are noticeable) are:

* When typing a number in standby, 'Video Call' is now displayed in the right tab.

* The Voice Comms application is a LOT louder!!! (any way to turn this down?!)

and last but NOT least, the camera quality has DECREASED. Moreso the video capture. It was fine before and didn't have any problems/faults wih it.

I am trying to contact the service station as we speak to see what they suggest happens next. The firmware is good in the way that there are no memory problems anymore when using WLAN, but I would much rather that every so often than the camera (one of the main features of the phone) to be decreased in quality. What are Nokia doing?!

Has anyone else experienced a decrease in their camera quality?? Have you managed to resolve this issue?

The languages in my N80 are:

Automatic
English
French - Francais
German - Deutsch
Italian - Italiano
Spanish - Espanol
Portugues

Is the quality bad just on the screen, or does the finished article when transferred to PC look bad?
I have the same FW, I'm worried about upgrading now

It was both but I turned my phone off last night and back on this morning and all problems seem to be resolved Not complaining!

Perhaps it was just 'getting used to the idea'

Now that this problem has been corrected, I would recommend updating. Solves memory issues and the camera hasnt changed at all from previous firmware versions. Will upgrade again when another is available though if it included a camera improvement anyway!

If what happened to me happens to you, leave it a couple of days, don't bother with Nokia Customer service or where you may have had it updated. They don't do anything but say to check camera settings. Not helpful.

It would be great themafia.69 if you could upload images and videos off your phone so we can compare the quality if there are any minor differences in high and low light.

my only complaint is the video call option. Other than that, it's more stable, better memory management, since I had the asia firmware before, my voice dial actually works now (i switched to euro), etc. I'm completely happy with my upgrade.

my n80 never had the out of memory problems it was made in finland (maybe others that had it from finland had the problems though) but i updated it anyways, made the phone a bit faster

I think the Video Call option is silly too in the middle of a phone call when you type in numbers.
If they wanted that feature included, they should add it in the options menu during the call so it didn't interfere when you want to clear the numbers you've typed at once.

Anyone experienced an increase in volume with the Voice application after this firmware update? Any way to turn it down?!

Haven't noticed. I was thinking about this today, about the video call. They should have made it so that if you have the phone only using GSM, it doesn't display the video call option. That would make sense to me, since GSM can't use video calls.

I am new to Nokia and to the N80. I have done my best to locate the firmware version that my unit has.
Can someone tell me how to locate it?

Also, I can't seem to get my email to work. I used the wizard, I used Nokia's web page to text the software to me but when I go thru T-Mobile USA and try and retrieve my Yahoo Mail plus it goes to the site and says it is updating but always says no e-mail messages. WHY??

no way i m going to give it up.

It just becomes a temp back up when i get a new phone and it will be my main phone again once i sell that new phone xD

so far, its splitting time with my 903sh
