TV on Moto V3C

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey there HoFo...

I just bought a brand new Motorola V3C... I've done a little bit of research on Bell.ca, but I'm not quite sure how up-to-date it is. What TV-watching functionality do I have on a V3c? Can I get streaming video clips, or only downloadable ... Or do I have access to MobiTV at all?

Although I'm not exactly ecstatic about watching Television on my phone, I think it would be interesting to try out.

Thanks,

-kevin

You can stream video just what is on the site. No access to MobiTV at this point that i've seen.

The V3C is the downloadable clips only, its free on the fuel bundles.

are you sure about that?

because when i called SOS about that, only Streaming TV is covered under the FuelMe Bundles, not Downloadable Video Clips...If i go to download a video clip, it warns me of charges, where it doens't do this on a Streaming TV compatible phone.

I have a fuelme bundle, and it does cover downloadable vid clips. Just checked the website. Fuelme bundles of $20+ have the free dlable clips

If you live in an area where EVDO is or is about to be available you may want to return it as Bell crippled the EVDO feature. Telus is EVDO compatible.

Telus' may be EVDO compatible, but their browser is crippled, so what's the difference?

Yeah, the browser thing is a definate let down.

I am pretty sure the Fuel me 20 includes downloadable clips. I have the Fuel me 15 and I can download as many clips as I want on my E815. When I download a clip, there is no price even mentioned, and I have never payed for one. Shows up on my bill how many I'v downloaded, but no charges. And P.S, they suck anyways so I would not mind even if they were not there lol Very bad quality

According to www.Bell.ca the FuelME 20...

The best in mobile entertainment fueled by our network. With this bundle you get Message Centre, MSNŽ Messenger, Call Display plus unlimited Picture & Video Messaging, unlimited Text Messaging, unlimited Mobile Browser and unlimited TV*.

*Excludes MobiTV

...so this is why I'm getting confused by what dirtyjeffer is saying. According to him, it sounds like MobiTV is included while downloaded clips are not. However, the website seems to be the other way around, so like which is it?

...Downloaded clips are included with FuelMe 20....I have it, it mentions nothing about price when i download a clip, and i've never been charged for the clip downloading.

Crippled? Now there's the pot calling the kettle black! Bell's Open Wave sucks big time. I'd pay gold for a decent browser on a Bell phone, but they won't let me! Opera mini is what I want and I don't want the risk of voiding the warranty on my phone to get it, no matter how crippled it is!

I can see how Bell does not need to limit you to the number of sites you get for "free": It is so painfully slow on the crippled e815 and RAZR that you won't get to many sites anyway if you have any kind of a life! With Telus and a RAZR you can fly to any of their 100+ sites in less time it takes me to read "network not available" on my crippled e815.

i don't think you understand the browser service very well...the WAP browser is capped at 14.4 kbps regardless of whether your phone is IS-95, 1xRTT or EV-DO...EV-DO is only for a tethered data session, or streaming content...using your browser is still using the network set speeds, which is 14.4 kbps...unless of course, something has changed in the last year that i am not aware of.

i said MobiTV is NOT included as its a seperate APP and is not part of the "Streaming TV" service that is included in the FuelME Bundles.

Now, SHOW ME THE WEB PAGE WHERE IT EXPLAINS THAT!!!

Never mind, I know it doesn't exist...

Elsewhere on the Bell forum there is a discussion about this where someone says his EVDO unit (phone or PDA-phone, I can't remember) is not running much faster than some other guy's 1X phone.

And then today, at noon, which would be the busiest time of day for cell phones, the response time on my e815 was much faster than usual! I actually looked at the display, just in case I'd see the EVDO symbol, but no, nothing there but the 1X... At 3:00 in the morning it's never that fast. Go figure.

Anyways, I'm pissed and today Bell-Aliant lost a family plan because of me. I was demoing the Wap email function to an old friend of mine whose Rogers contract expired months ago and as he was looking for a graduation gift for his son he thought a new phone plan would be just perfect. Rogers' coverage is between awful and non-existent here and their data plans are for lotery winners, so Telus sold an extra 3 RAZRS today, 2 of them with the browser option.

But Bell will survive... Hey, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger;-) At least that's what Nietzche said...

first of all, you use Aliant, so perhaps they do things differently, i don't know.

secondly, you won't see it in any bell "web page"...i was told this from a network engineer a few years ago...so while it's possible things have changed in that time frame (as i mentioned), i'll take his word over your opinion any day.

I think it works this way

Streaming Video
(TV clips)
Unlimited with subscription to FUEL ME Bundles

Downloadable Video
(TV clips)
Unlimited with subscription to FUEL ME Bundles
$0 to $5 per clip (if customer is not subscribed to a fuel bundle) + mobile browser charges

MobiTV
(Live TV)
$10 / month + mobile browser charges
(I would assume no mobile browser charges if you are also sub'd to a browser feature)

...so if I want MobiTV and like the FuelME 20, it'd basically be $30 a month then? I can then download as much as I want and stream as much as I want, right?

Posted by: Dougieg

According to Alltels site... MobiTV IS available on their version of the V3C. This is the same phone as the Bell model, but programmed differently. So, maybe someday bell will allow this on the V3C here too...

mobile browser is faster on evdo phones compared to my RAZR.
also when you download video's from bell using mobile browser it downloads faster on the EVDO phone compared to a 1X phone.
