Hello,
I have a Cingular RAZR V3 and can not find any way to increase the number of rings before a call goes to voicemail.
Does anyone know how this is controlled?
Is it a phone function or a provider function.
Thanks

It is a GSM feature. There is a code that you can input into the phone to extend the ringtime. I do not have that code with me at work, but I will PM you tomorrow with the code. It will extend it up to 30 seconds. You can change it back at any time if you want.

With GSM phones the forwarding can be controlled by the so-called star or hash codes. The forwarding you are interested in is the "no answer" conditional. The general form of this is:
**61*+XXXXXXXXXXX**sec# <send>
where XXXX... is the full voicemail number and "sec" is how long you want the delay in seconds. So, with T-Mobile I would enter
**61*+18056377243**30# then press send to set the delay to 30 seconds. The most allowed seems to be 30 seconds.

Some phones allow you to set the dealy for the no answer conditional in the menus but not my Moto phones.

The information I have is a little different.

*61*+local voicemail number with area code*11 (for phone calls only)*time in seconds you want it to ring (5 second increments not to exceed 30 seconds)# so it looks like this
*61*+12345678910*11*25# SEND. You will get a confirmation after that. You must know your local voicemail number. It may or may not be your actual phone number. I know that on Cingular it is a different number. You will have to access that number within the phone.

You need the voice mail deposit number. That number is never your phone number nor the voice mail retrieval number stored in your phone. How could you forward a call to the same number originally called? You need to run *#61#[Send] to find out what the number is first. Failure to enter the correct number could cause voice mail to fail or messages to be stored in an inaccessible location.

Thanks for posting the code to access the voicemail number. I did not know of that code. I always did Menu > Settings > Call Forward > Voice Calls > To > Change to find the number. Any other codes out there like this?

Motorola phones show the voice mail deposit number under Call Forwarding but other phones may just have a place to enter a number when you want to turn on call forwarding. If one entered the voice mail retrieval number, others might be able to access your voice mail messages.
