Okay, I got a new 705SH, so I am playing with it now..
Now that that is clear, I wanted to let you know this phone is actually a lot of fun. It feels much better overall then the razr, and is actually feels tiny compared to the 904.
If anyone has any questions, I will try to play with the phone more and find out answers for you. Right now I'd like to give you more information, but I can't. I am too busy playing with the phone.
So here is some pretty pictures to look at while I play with the phone.

I need to decide whether we (my girlfriend and I) should keep the 904's.. or change to the 705's.. Decisions decisions, okay back to playing.

Not sure when it will be unlocked, not that many people have them yet, it just came out last week.

You should be able to see the SIM and the transflash access point!

Yea.. the black 705 is pretty nice too, it's a shame I have to get rid of that one.

Man I wanna buy off 705sh and 904sh from you but since theres no promising date for unlock....

Hrm, if you can't see the pictures perhaps it's a problem viewing photobucket from your location?

For the two of you who pmed me about the camera, I took some pictures on my lunch break.

The first batch were Taken at the highest of 3 quality settings (some while I was walking lol)
The last two were taken at medium setting. As requested.

One interesting fact, evidently the image COMPRESSION methods on the 904SH are higher, because I uploaded these all in 1200 x 1600 pixels and photobucket resized all of the high quality ones, and one of the medium quality ones.
Whereas with the 904, it doesn't even resize my 2048 x 1536 MOST of the time.
Just interesting note, so I am sending you an email with full ones also :-)

hey thanks alot! just got the mail, awesome pics! it's definitely my next pick, wether it's 705 or 770 I'll have to check. went to a local store yesterday and the 770SH is definitely cheaper than 705SH... we'll see. many thanks.

im braving my self for the long wait (of the unlock...)

while we're talking about the 705SH, it made me wonder, -IF- someone unlocked the 905SH even though it has no GSM, that would still mean it would work from a Vodafone KK Japan USIM that roams abroad or even a USIM from another country, whether a normal SIM (as opposed to a USIM) is questionable, but i have a 3 USIM so that's good enough,,....

Even if the 905SH was unlocked, it seems you would only be able to make phone calls, and watch tv basically. The vodafone specific functions would all be unusable. Although.. the 905SH is the only Sharp that can use a 2gb minisd :-) So it might make a good media player.
I am 100% sure, but I beleive if it were unlocked it would function as a basic phone on the 2100 3G network.
Personally I'd wait out either the 705SH or the 904SH, depending on what your style is.

i'll wait for the 904SH unlock although the 905SH would be my dream phone. and yes, as you mention that's all that matters. i just want something that's got the looks and isnt available in most places.

but heres the fact: i -don't- live in North America.... I live in UK where we have 2100MHz W-CDMA and am currently in Hong Kong, where 2100MHz W-CDMA networks also exist. If I travel to Europe, pretty much half of Europe has W-CDMA.

Although since this is a niche market, I'm expecting a wait of 1-2 years - remember when the guys were waiting for the Sanyo V801SA?? That superthread went on for 3 years until it was moved out of public view into a hidden moderator only forum. Shame. I sent a PM to a mod asking about it but never recieved a reply. The V801SA was the phone that started all this craze, it was released in Decemeber 2003 and the thread was started at a similar time, I joined the HoFo bandwagon in early 2004 and that thread caught my eye sometime during the middle of the year..... I've seen the real V801SA but it's a shame its too old now, otherwise I'd still buy it. Anyway, it was the forefather of all your Sharps and Toshibas that you now are able to use outside Japan! Anybody remember that thread/phone?

1) Can mp3s be used as ringtone?(gsmarena dosen't state that it can)
2) Is there autofocus?
3) Vibe and ring at the same time?
4) can you watch videos?

p.s - this phone can be used in Canada right?

1)Ringtones has to be either midi, mmf or mp4 not mp3 unless drm and they can be stored on the mem card

2) yes there is autofocus

3) vibe and ring is the same time (as with all phones other then older model motos)

4) videos can be as large as VGA(640X480 highest in any mobile phone currently) in size at 30gps or like any 90x SVGA (320X240)

and yes the 904 can be used in canada however its curently locked so not yet but soon to be

Yep no autofocus!
But it is pretty good at snapping pictures while moving..
I was actually surprized, most of the pictures I took was while I was moving. Definately a fast camera for a cellphone.
Yea, there is the macro switch on the back, when you get it from vodafone it is default on, so the first picture you take will look like #*% lol.
Once I switched it over, it was all good though.

The 770SH and the 705SH uses the same basic motherboard though right guys? Anyone who unlocked the 770SH tried taking a look at the 705SH?

What's the 705 made out of? Is there any metal on it besides the keypad, or is painted plastic like most other Sharps? I like the new hinge design. I always thought Sharps looked kind of clumsy when they're open compared to other flip phones, but the 705 looks like it fixed that.

The 705sh is extremely firm.. not flimsy like a razr. That's one of the reasons I like it. I wouldn't go throwing it against a wall just because I said it's firm or anything though.
The back is plastic, but it's not squishy plastic like a lot of phones that you can push on and they squeeze in like a corset.
I guess if I had to make a comparison I would say the 705sh is more like a money clip, and the razr is more like a paper clip.

Sometimes it is a little tricky to get the battery cover off because of this.. because it doesn't push in to let go.. but there is a trick!
If you put your thumbs on each side of the battery cover, near the top, and put a little pressure, it should slide right down..

My one concern with the design of the phone is.. I always think I forgot my phone.. I am so used to having a brick in my pocket.

Saw the slimia and played around with it. It's quite nice...

Wish docomo or kddi phones would fly here though. I think they have better looking phones than Vodafone.

AU and Docomo phones doesnt have a sim card lock i think?
am i wrong? coz i used AU phone while i was in japan but theres no sim card slot inside

AU has no sim card slot, however DoCoMo does. The DoCoMo phones however do not support GSM, so there is no demand for them in countries which do not use the same 3G frequencies are Japan. The only places you could theoretically used them, if they were to be unlocked are the UK, AU, NZ, HK, and Germany.

Almost all VodaJP phones support GSM, which is why they can market their "Global Roaming" features, however DoCoMo and AU cannot really do this.

Only DoCoMo phones with the '3G roaming' feature could theoretically be used outside Japan if they were unlocked. This is because they support WCDMA 3GPP Release 2000 and onwards, whereas all the other DoCoMo phones support the pre-standardisation 'Release 99' spec, which is incompatible with the newer standardised ones. That's why no-one bothers to try unlock DoCoMo phones at the moment.

What about the 900ig, m1000 and the simpure series?

I currently have the NEC 900iG on roam with DoCoMo in the US, and I email people all the time and occasionally use iMode.

I wonder if these can be unlocked. Also, Motorola will be coming out with a DoCoMo version of the RAZR which is set to GSM.
