How To Enable Manual Network Selction on a Cingular Black Razr

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello Everybody,

I am looking to enable Manual Network Selection on My Cingular Black Razr. I already have gotten it unlocked if that matters at all. Could someone please help me with how to do this or at least point me in the right direction for help?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Seem editing will do it, but you do know that if you enable manual network selection it screws up the voicemail notification. You start receiving _@ and another weird text message instead of the voicemail notification. Most of us would rather have the voicemail notification right than have manual network selection.

Seem 0032_0001, offset 02, bit 1

This probably needs to be in the modding section in my opinion though.

I found you will not get the vm problem if you instead update offset 54, bit 7.

Offset 2, bit 1 is a setting for European phones, and they don't support our voicemail system.

offset 54 -
bit 7: BLOCK ADVANCED MENUS: Settings > Network (1 on, 0 off - set to 0 to UNBLOCK advanced Network Menus)

Maybe that's what they're looking for, but I don't actually consider that manual network selection like what I was used to with at&t. That just allows you to select a network temporarily.

So the offset 2, bit 1, allows you to Permanently select another carrier, and it never switches back unless you tell it? From what I could see, the 2 seem edits created the same network menu. Or not?

Thank you everybody for your help so far! I was successful in my attempt to enable it on the Razr. Now if anybody knows how to enable it on the Cingular Black Slvr that would be great as well!

Also, does anybody know how you can make the phone display the true name of the network you are on instead of just "Cingular" everywhere you go? On the Black Razr and the Black Slvr?

THANKS AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING!

I would think the Slvr is the same, but I don't know for sure.

Regarding the true network name ... Here's the file ...

Look for "Alpha Tag". Seem 0032, offset 4B, bit 6. Set to zero. You will see the provider's name OUTSIDE of your home area.

NOte: Again, You will not see "Cingular" change, but anywhere you go out of market, you will see THEIR name (ie phone will show "TMobile" if you are on their network.) On my phone, I had to do the Seem 0032_0001, offset 02, bit 1 then I could put in my own Alpha tag name for Cingular, but again I had problems with the voicemail (remember this is the same edit as the manual network select). So I left this seem edit off (because I know Cingular means I'm in my own home area).

Did you do the seem edit offset 54, bit 7 to enable network menu?

Yes, I did use the offset 54, bit 7 to enable network selection. It worked with the Slvr! You are the BEST!

I will respond once I have the true alpha tags enabled.

THANKS AGAIN!

YOU ARE THE BEST!

I got the correct alpha tags enabled on the SLVR but for whatever reason it didn't work on the Razr.

edit: GOT IT WORKING ON THE RAZR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you everybody for your help!

Instead of altering the alpha tag, is there a way I can just make the roaming triangle show up when I am on the Cingular Blue network instead of Cingular Orange? Like it would if I bought the phone straight out of the factory.

I'm sure there is a seem edit to enable this option.

I don't know about a particular SEEM edit, but I do know that Cingular has been sending out replacement SIM cards that enable manual network selection. I received four new SIMs over the past few months, and I've installed them in my three RAZRs and my mom's v330.

Not sure why it was a SIM change as opposed to sending a new setting via the network.
