im about to get a IM client, not sure which one i should choose
really its between agile and verichat
pro's/con's to each when working on a 8125??

Posted by: tehj

I prefer msn , but thats because 100% of my friends use it or some iteration of it.

Works fine for me on my 8125 because its built in

ya, i just got VeriChat and i like it
i got 1 question tho

if i use Wi-Fi, my Yahoo, MSN, and AIM messages are counted as DATA, correct?
and if i use GPRS, my Yahoo, MSN, and AIM messages are counted as Text Messages, correct?

Posted by: tehj

you know, I have unlimited medianet, and i dont get charged for sms when i use msn messenger, though there is an option to send messages via sms if the gprs connection is unavailable.

msn uses data to my knowledge, if wifi is unavailable and it has to use gprs/edge... I cant say how the others work, because I dont know.

personally, i think using sms for conversations is kinda slow and dumb, but thats probably great for the service providers to make money off it.

i want to say that aim uses sms.

VERICHAT

Under Preferences, then Always On Preferences, there is an option to decide between SMS email or Data Connection. I have always used the "Data Connection" option and have not had any sent as an SMS.

Good luck!

I'm using IMPlus on my MDA and I love it, it's easy to use and full featured, and one BIG plus is ALL future updates are included, so you never have to buy a license again.

Verichat is good too, I used it when I had a Palm Treo 650.

I wanted to try IM plus, but I've donwloaded the trial twice, and it doesn't seem to work.

CAn you send receive files on IM+ ? I can do that with MSN contacts on Verichat. That is what would make me switch. (once I get it working that is)

verichat take a while to load up sometimes

Agile by a mile. It's free, expandable, and supports basically every client. They just released a new version for WM5 Smartphones.

I really like this agile messenger... it has push to talk built in, along with the ability to send pictures nearly instantly. It works really well.

The only problem I have is that if a call comes in or its closed or disconnected, it seems to have a problem reconnecting until you open ie first... I read that as a "workaround" on another forum. Anyone have any experiences like that?

Also, I'm still unsure if sending pics or the ptt messages use mms, as dumb as that sounds... only because it has this "data counter" option in the app, and lists "media messages" seperately there... any thoughts on this either?

has anyone verified agile doesnt count against your sms/mms msging? i just checked mine and it is billing against my txting.

Cingular is only showing my internet usage going up from it... dunno why you are having that problem.

Posted by: smokeyb111

Can you send files through Agile MEssenger (not just pictures...sometimes I transfer mp3's also, verichat uploads the file somewhere....and it seems pretty fast)

Posted by: tehj

you can not send files... only pictures, and recordings (as in push to talk)

Posted by: smokeyb111

I guess I'll stay with Verichat until I find something better.

but yet, besides Verichat, IM+, and Agile What other options are out there? The stock MSN client on the 8125 is BOOORING and slow. No file transfers either? BOOOO lol

I'm just looking for other choices. I like Verichat as it seems to work well, but I like to know what choices I have available.

Does anyone know if IM+ has file transfer support (mp3, pictures etc) and does it transfer like verichat? I notice that when I transfer a file, it sends it to a server or something and the link for the file becomes available to the recipient. I think it's cool and it makes for really quick transfers, even over EDGE (man I can't WAIT for HSDPA)

ill have to play with it some more. choose a day where i dont use any txt msgs and test it one more time. if nothing else i just might have to get an app that lets me connect to my home pc and vpn to it. kinda like gotomypc

I tried a lot.

the only reason that I stick with Verichat , even tho the interface sucks, and it's just ugly looking. is that it uses SMS as a backup. keeps Data down to a miniumu . Keeping Data stops calls going to VM cause you cant do data and phone at the same time . Also when i am out of signal , as soon as I do the SMS message comes in, and it always shows me online. (no dropping on and off)

just my .02 cents

I just used it and it keeps freezing
