Help: Cingular MEdia Net on V3r??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: kareo

I have a V3r, and am not able to get Cingular's internet to work on it. I have tried everything that I've done on other models (v3i etc) to get it to work, but no dice.

The phone will connect to GPRS, but it loads up a screen with a couple of non-working links, rather than loading the MEdia net homepage.

I have uploaded the websession files that have the proxy file (which works on the V3i), but that doesn't seem to fix it. I have uploaded the V3 0117 seem to the phone, which has fixed the problem in a couple of other Moto phones, but it doesn't work on the V3r. There is no Cingular firmware available for this phone for me to flash it to....

This has been an ongoing issue with Motorola phones for me (and others, I'm sure). So far I haven't found any posts as to the underlying issue that causes this. On the V3i for instance, some of them work fine with the web session with the proxy, some work with the websession/proxy + 0117 SEEM edit, and some you have to flash to a different firmware before you can get them to work.

There must be a SEEM or something that can be fixed to make Cingular's web work, does anybody know what it is? Or if not that, does anybody have a flash/flex version for the V3r that works with Cingular's MEdia net?

-Bump- surely someone knows why so many unlocked Motos can't access MEdia net?

Posted by: jrsjr

there are multiple changes to be made on an unlocked phone from HK in lieu of a flash.
1. the 0117_001 seem to a V3
2.the kjava folder, the rootx509kjava folder, the rootx509sslv folder to cingular certificates, the j2me_domain_registry.sm file
all of these from cingular branded need to be uploaded to replace the existing files.

Posted by: kareo

OK, I just got around to trying to work on this v3r again, and took all the files out of a Cingular branded flash and uploaded them to the V3r.

I uploaded: A web session file and web session proxy (the same one I use on every other Motorola phone). I uploaded the Cingular Root_Certs to the root folder, uploaded all the stuff from the Cingular kjava folder to the v3r one, same with the certs/root/x509/kjava and ssl files.

I have a suspicion it has something to do with the strange split tree file system on the V3r's. I have tried loading the kjava stuff into the other 2 folders on the v3r that are called kjava, but I'm still not having any luck.

I took the seem 0117 from the v3 and saved it right over to the v3r also.

Anybody have any other ideas what could be done with this phone to get MEdia net working?

Posted by: jrsjr

just wondering... cingular is issuing the V3r now, so maybe the V3 ota has been updated. if i get my hands on one, i'll take a look at the file structure.

Posted by: kareo

The old Cingular OTA never worked on unlocked V3s/V3i phones, but I haven't been able to try it lately since they locked their OTA site with a user name and password. Does anybody know a working site for Cingular OTA settings anymore?

If Cingular has V3rs then there must be a Cingular Flash/Flex out there too.

Did you try these:

Works perfect on my V3i & PEBL.

apparently you cannot get ota unless you log onto your account, however, if you log onto www.cingular.com, click on phone support - details at the botton left, you can get the settings to enter manually - which I'm sure are the same as those djdownhill posted for you.

Posted by: kareo

yes, those are the settings that I am using, and still getting that screen with the search button and links that don't work. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the different file system in this phone.

Posted by: mts7

https://onlinecare.cingular.com/sup...ls/KB39412.html is a site I use to configure my phones. I've done this with RAZR V3, PEBL U6, SLVR L7, V180, V551, and V557. It's not the best, but it usually works for accessing Internet. T-Mobile has one out there, too; if you want the link, let me know.

Posted by: kareo

yup, that's the site I've been using too. However, there used to be a site that you could sent OTA settings without logging in for Cingular (Like T-Mobile still has), and now Cingular makes you log in. Since I have a demo line, I can't log into the Cingular site, so I can't send OTA settings at all.

The settings in the link MTS7 provided don't work for some reason in unlocked V3/V3i/V3r etc. The ones that djdownhill listed normally work in most unlocked motos like the V3i, but for some reason they don't work in the V3r.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks! I was irritated with my v3r only because i could not connect to medianet or send or receive pics, but I just put all these settings on my phone and everything works!! Now I don't have to keep looking for a cingular flash for the phone.....whew!

Posted by: kareo

What version of firmware do you have in your V3r buffala?

Please--what is ota?

Posted by: jrsjr

ota is over the air - they can send your phone the settings just like an mms message.

Posted by: sagacious1

Is there a sticky or thread that explains how to do this?

Posted by: hytran

Didja think to maybe look in the Cingular forum here? In the FAQ??

Posted by: buffala

i flashed my phone with a monster pack i found in another forum. i am at work right now, so when i get a break, i will post the thread to where i found the monster pack.

Posted by: jrsjr

i already explained the process. this is not a mod - it's a service provided by cingular to their customers. just do what i said in my first post, or log onto your account and click on device support and follow directions.

Posted by: sagacious1

I did log on to Cingular and got the ota for both Media Net and MMS. However, when the phone accesses Media Net, it displays text only--no hypertext or html. I did look in the Cingular FAQ and have tried all of what I found there. Can this be flashed with the Cingular MP's? Has anyone tried it? The B/L shouldn't make a difference and the phone should simply upgrade, I would think. But, then again, I am still a NEWB.

I am having the same problem with a new unlocked V3i maroon.
FLEX: GSPSLQAT677AW0D8
S/W VER: R47A_G_08.D8.88R

I tried an OTR config with the RAZR V3 and SLVR L7 setting to no avail. I also manually entered the settings DJdownhill recomended and I get the same white screen every time with the message "Network Not Available".

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Did you ever find where you got that MP? I, for one, would be very interested to know.

Unfortunately, the ota and the manual instructions for Media Net do not work for the V3r--at least, not on the two that I have.

Posted by: jrsjr

checl the settings you got ota against the ones cingular posts for the L7 - other threads i've read indicated that the L7 settings work when the v3 didn't.

sorry this took so long. i had to have surgery today to have my wisdom teeth pulled. here is the link to the mp i used to flash my phone. there is really no info with it, but i flashed my v3r and have had no problem. when i used the medianet and mms setting that were provided here by djdownhill, everything worked great. i just don't want anyone to be upset if they try to flash with this link and something doesn't work. here is the link:

http://www.motomodders.net/Default....c&postid=163233

about halfway down the page, franky32 posted some mp's, i used the very first one. i didn't try any of the others.

hope this will help you out

I called cingular and because I am a former AT&T customer with an AT&T sim card i had to use different setting than those on the cingular website.

If you are a Cingular customer, you can get the configuration OTA or manually in the phone service on the lower left of the home screen, once you have signed in.

Hey Curtisound,

I had a maroon V3i with the same issue, flashed it to a different MP and it worked fine. I'll try to find the MP that I used and let you know what it is.

Posted by: buffala

hey guys. sorry it has taken me so long to post back about my firmware. i had surgery on friday, so i been a little out of it. i actually found a thread on another site that posted some monster packs for the v3r. here is the link:

R4515_G_08.BD.2AR_2_PDS005_LP0015_DRM0101_JPJAVA_G _08_R4515_03_00_04R_GSTV3xx05T676GR084_1FF.rar
http://ultrashare.net/hosting/fl/6dca469c6e/

there really isn't any info given about the mp, but i flashed it to my phone and then used the settings for medianet and mms that djdownhill gave above and everything works great. i can't promise it will on everyone's phone, i don't want to be held responsible if it doesn't. but my phone is working great and i love it now. hopefully there will be more and more information available on the v3r soon.
