LG Cu500 vs Moto V3i

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

No contest as far as I am concerned. The LG kills it feature wise and is almost just as slim. Seriously, who would by the Moto when they both are slim and the LG destroys it feature wise, I mean it's not even close.

Posted by: helpermonkey

I've used both extensively. I am giving it to the LG for being the best Cingular 3G phone and I like it anyway.

Posted by: Crossblade

If you are not in a 3G area - V3i.

Of course Cu500 sounds better if you have UMTS and HSDPA !

Posted by: JPCrazyLegs

I dont really like the look of the LG too much compared to the v3i. Besides, the massive amount of support behind hacking moto phones to your liking is nice too.

The v3i has the same 1.3 megapixel camera, and to some people, 3G is a waste of money. I don't use the internet to require any high speed stuffs, and I wouldnt use video calling, UNLESS it was free. Knowing cingular they will probably charge extra.

The RAZR brand is getting too old, and I hate motorola, their UI sucks/will always suck unless they switch to symbian or something.

I feel bad for people who buy razrs now, just think of having that two years from now

Yeah, but the people that are just now buying a razr probably just traded in their trusty Nokia 5160 with a beat up smiley face faceplate. They will be tickled pink to have the razr for 2 years!

Where did you get the LG CU500? I do not think it is available yet???

I didn't buy it and no it is not available yet. You will find some people get early access to decives so they can be tested. It has been in the field since at least feb. if I am not mistaken.

The Cingular V3i is not available yet either (unlocked ones are of course).

LG and Samsung is taking this copycat thing too far. Every damn phone they release look like either the Razr or the SLVR. I must give credit to Nokia and SE. They haven't tried to copy the Razr or SLVR design, unlike the Koreans : Samsung and LG.

To each his own I guess. At least they did not copy the Moto UI! I would rather have / use the LG at this point, or the Samsung UI too although I don't have any Samsung with a body even slightly like a Razr.

Uh huh.

LG blatantly coppied their fellow Korean in this case, seemingly taking an MM-A900 and adding a TransFlash slot.

Same black design, same rotating camera lens, same shape, same external media controls, no lip. Even then however, the Samsung MM-A900 is not a copy of the RAZR's design elements in any way, other than being slim. The shape is radically different, the edges and different, there is no bottom lip, etc.

To each his own, but if you are looking for a real RAZR copy, look no further than the soon to be released 100% plastic Sanyo Katana

Wirelessly posted (motorola razr v3c: Nokia6682/2.0 (3.01.1) SymbianOS/8.0 Series60/2.6 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

I might buy the LG, I like it a lot.

I just don't see how anyone can like to be stuck with GPRS for the next two years while 3g goes mainstream in the US. When everyone else is making video calls and you are stuck wondering what happened because you bought a Razr with three year old technology. HSDPA is the future and the LG has it. No worries. I will be able to call my parents in Pittsburgh and let them see and talk to their Granddaughter that they see four times a year, on a daily basis if I wanted to. That is just one great feature.

This is for the voters that voted for the V3i, why did you vote for it, I am curious. It is technically inferior, was it the style or shape. Form over function? I take it most people who know phones would go for function over form, or style. Am I wrong? Lets hear it. That is like buying a car with a V4 over a V8 because of it's color. Is it not? Since both phones are physcially simular in shape and size. Does this sound about right? Lets hear it.

PS. Check the specs, destroys the V3i. No contest.

For most people the lack of EDGE or even UMTS data speeds are no big deal. Outside of HOFO users, how many people even know the difference? The majority of wireless customers in the US seem to want:
1. Free phone
2. Cool looking phone
3. Phone with camera
4. Phone that will play MP3 ringtones

The RAZR has 3 out of 4 of these features, and can be had pretty inexpensively if you shop around. I am sure that the LG is a much better phone, but then again so is the Moto V551. But who cares? People think the RAZR looks COOL!

For me, though, I would rather have the LG.

Perhaps it is because of LG's infamous bad quality record with GSM handsets? Motorola might have issues with software and hardware, but they still work excellent as phones with great RF performance, something LG can't say on any carrier they sell handsets on.

And V4??? What world do you live on?

Posted by: iamthedudeman

I meant 4 cylinder, Sorry. Never said I was a mechanic. Look Ill change it. I type too fast sometimes.

Quality. No. Cheap yes. Putting inferior hardware in devices to save a few bucks does not reek of quality to me. Moto's quality across the board is more consistant, yes. That doesn't mean all of their handsets are better than LG's just because it says Moto as the manufacter. Name recogination will only get you so far, sometimes you just have to call them as you see them. Whats better a Honda or a Hyundai? According to JD power for quality, Hyundai is. Actually, they were placed third of all the car makers. Now does that mean Hyundai is the third best when quality is concerned, no. Does it mean they can build some good cars, yes. Moto can drop the ball and release a few lemons also, can you say MPX 220.

Posted by: helpermonkey

Motorola is not that great overall performace wise, Nokia is the best by a decent margin, then probably Sony Ericsson. Motorola overal I would say is fairly up and down by model, not consistent overall. I am talking about 2G obviously and only on Cingular's networks.

LG 3G phones are the better performers so far.

Posted by: tuolumne

Actually Samsung phones have the lowest return rates on Cingular, that is a fact.

Posted by: iamthedudeman

Really we should be asking what is better the LgCu500 or the RAZR 2. Not the V3i. The V3i is a V3 with a better camera, and Micro SD slot. It's like RAZR 1.5. It isn't even in the same ballpark. No contest.

Even then, the Lg has the RAZR 2 (aka"canary") since the canary only has EDGE data. Lg Cu500 has HSDPA. No comparison. But the RAZR 2 has a better camera. Take your pick, better camera or better data. A more accurate comparison would be the V3x, since it has atleast UMTS, video calling feature, but the band will not work in the states so that point is moot. Same again, V3x better camera, UMTS not as fast as HSDPA, same situation, take your pick. At least that comparison would be comparable, and close. Cingular needs to bring out the Moto E825(V3x) which I think Cingular axed is what I read on one of the threads here on hofo.

I totally stuck on whether to swap my defective 6682 for the CU500 or wait for the V3i?

Since I will have no use for Cingular video or 3G at all is the CU500 still better or should I wait for the V3

TIA!!!

Posted by: walkguru

ill take th lg cu500 any day.

Posted by: adgrant

You left out the phone I would choose, RAZR V3.

yes that is a fact BUT it is also a fact that it has the WORST reception, and is the least sold. (w/ exception for the d807 only because of the sleekness/features people want it)

Posted by: ZoSo65

I voted for the V3i, because I've never had a good LG, always had reception problems with them. The Moto's we use have really good to great reception 99% of the time.
As far as 3G goes, it won't be in my area any time soon, and I'm not truely concerned with it. When something better comes out down the line, I'll probably get it(RAZR Maxx)

Posted by: formercanuck

I voted for the V3i, only because of the following

a) CU 500 isn't available in Los Angeles
b) Can't disable AMR-HR audio on CU500 (a BIG issue for me).
c) field engineering mode hacks
d) every LG I've ever tried had horrible audio qualities (flat/tinny/muffled, etc)
e) good RF characteristics.
I'm waiting for some competition (ZX-20?) before I jump into the UMTS/HSDPA market.
My V505 will do for now

Yeah you can. 277634#*# takes you too a menu option that will let you select a full rate or a half rate codec. I had no problems at all going to a full-rate codec.

Posted by: formercanuck

Is that EFR, or AMR-full rate ?
On the moto, there's the option of EFR, HR, AMR-full rate and AMR-half rate.
I'd still prefer EFR over AMR-half rate.

Posted by: DJGunner

hey former canuck what is that gibberish picture on your sig btw?

cuz i have that crap on the pebl and was wondering can i flash it to make it work instead of getting that yellow gibberish crap

The options are EFR speech ver and AMR speech ver. Although it does not say if AMR is FR or HR. I was told it was full-rate.

When you see that... its Field Engineering Mode. I just hit the middle (menu) key, then left soft menu key to toggle from that mode to normal and back. My phone starts out with that screen when I turn mine on as well - that's what I get for enabling FEM.
