KX1V SOHO and Mp3 Ringtones.

My company supplied me with this ok phone, but I would like mp3 ringtones. I've tried all the resampling/ renaming to .mid and other tricks from these and other forums, w/ no luck - phone reports: "file is corrupt" and wont play the ringtone. Using (obviously) USB cable and QPST/ KPT. Recently, I e-mailed a guy who had posted a review of the phone, saying mp3's are possible with his phone, the only difference being that his carrier is Alltel. Later he e-mailed back - the method he used was to download and run wscma2u.exe and drag the wav file into the app., saving the output .mmf file w/ default settings, rename to .mid and use KPT to place in appropriate folder. Unfortunately, this does not work on my VERIZON KX1V....
I'm wondering if Verizon disables any kind of internal functionality for mp3 rings (as I said, I know you have to rename to .mid regardless) via internal software settings - and if so, if anyone knows what or where these settings might be kept. If this isn't possible, would anyone be willing to upload a copy of their complete system software (minus personal stuff of course) from an Alltel carrier based KX1V, so I can get my phone running mp3 rings? Judging from all searches for help on getting the mp3 rings for the KX1V to work I found out on the net, perhaps this idea might solve the problem.... who knows more experts here might have a well defined process w/ instructions and generic software to convert to Alltel based and also unlock to allow those of us running on Verizon network to continue to do so. For that matter, maybe someone knows the secret of how to force this little phone to use mps ringers regardless of carrier, etc. I appreciate any help or useful commentary.
