YES, I have searched and I didnt find anything. If you can just point me in the right direction I would appreciate it and I can go from there.

My question is can I add my own ringtones to the Nokia 6030 without getting them from the media mall. My gfs grandpa is a WWII vet and cant really hear the phone. I want to amplify the ringtones and add them to his phone. I have turned the volume all the way up and its REALLY REALLY low. He couldnt hear it if he wanted to. I just want to make things easier for him by adding louder ringtones so he can hear them.

Another thing, when he uses the phone his hearing aid hizzes and makes weird noises. Is the phone doing something to his hearing aid? He used to have a VZW LG 4500 and didnt experience any of these issues he has with the current phone.

Please dont give me smart*ss remarks about the post I just want a simple link that shows me how to do this or if this is possible.

Hi, I too own a 6030, but haven't had the volume and hissing issues you describe. You might try to do a warranty exchange if you're within the warranty period.

Regarding the ringtones, I have yet to see a data cable for this phone, so the only way I've been able to get additional ringtones (since Cingular only put 6 or so on there--bah!) is to do it on-line. There are sites other than the media mall I've used, but I've had to do it this way.

Your GF's granddad might be happier with a 6010. It's loud, both in earpiece volume and ringtone-wise, and clear and easy to use.

Mentinoning that you searched is irrelevant because there hasn't been much in-depth discussion about this phone

Of course you can use ringtones outside of media net, you just have to upload the mp3 to your own webspace, then use the phone to go directly to the web address of the mp3 file. If you're talking about using a USB cable or something like that, I personally haven't seen one for the 6030.

That could just be the fact that the phone uses 850 mhz? I'm sure you've heard the buzz effect when you're in a room with speakers, so it could be the same kind of thing going on with the hearing aid.

You may try and see about exchanging it for a phone that is hearing aid compatible (aka HAC)? The Nokia 6061 and the LG C2000 are low end models that have some compatibilities with hearing aids.

Thanks for the help guys. Ive seen a lot of Nokia 6030 cables on ebay but I didnt know if they worked. Also, If I use Media Net or whatever its called does it just use my minutes or does it charge my kb transfer.

I've downloaded a ton of ringers for my 6030 and they are incredibly loud. It's also very easy to do over the GPRS connection. There are tons of sites out there that are free or relatively inexpensive (the one I like charges $2.99 for a month of unlimited downloads...for me, that's pennies per ringer since I typically use a couple dozen minimum for my contacts) to download stuff.

Using wireless web on Cingular does not use minutes. You pay like a penny per kilobyte. When I got my Nokia 6030, I had unlimited data (an old Media Works plan), so I just downloaded to my heart's content. But, if you just need to find a few good ringers, the pay per use isn't a horrible way to go. You could add one of the cheap media bundles to grandpa's plan for a month then cancel it.

I've never transferred ringers via data cable, I either download them or if I have two Bluetooth compatible phones, I go that route.

Good luck.

The Nokia 6030 has bluetooth. I did not know that. If thats the case ill just use my motorola E815 and transfer ringtones over bluetooth and im set. I didnt think this phone had bluetooth. Thanks for the info man. I didnt really read all the features on the phone but if it has bluetooth im set.

The 6030 doesn't have bluetooth, quillhill was just making a point. I would do as cgd recommended and exchange this phone. My wife uses a 6030 and all her ringtones are very loud on the highest setting. It sounds like you may have received a defective handset.

Also, quillhill is not a "man".

oops I did not know that. My mistake, we are all human arent we.

I will have to go and mess with his phone. I was over on phonescoop and I was reading that if I put it on outdoor it should get A LOT louder if that doesnt help ill get it exchanged or something. He just needs to be able to make and receive calls nothing else.

Yeah, sorry if that was unclear. The 6030 def doesn't have Bluetooth, which is why it's a back up and part of the reason why I still have my SE w600.

CaptShadow, heh, the gender thing...no biggie, but thanks. Most people figure I'm a guy because girls supposedly aren't into phones or whatever. Ha! Phone geekiness is not limited to the less fair sex.

In any case, I am starting to wonder if it's a defective unit. It's really hard to say without being able to compare it side by side with my 6030.

In any case, you should be able to solve the issue. The ringers can't be anywhere near as quiet as the Cingular branded Blackberry stock ringers. You wouldn't believe what I went through to get a few MP3 ringers on that .... the 6030 is a total breeze by comparison. And it has quite a bit of memory for a so-called low end phone. I could only get a few MP3 ringers on the Samsung x497 or the Moto v180 my hubby had ages ago. The 6030 I have must have around 20 MP3 ringers on it.

I wonder, can the grandpa use a wired headset with the hearing aids? My father in law wears hearing aids (firefighter who has partial hearing loss thanks to the wail of sirens) and he's successfully used wired headsets with other phones. Just a thought...
