Treo 650 has worst Bluetooth I ever used

I guess this might be more of a rant than anything productive, but I felt I just had to.

I just recently got a Treo 650. Fortunately I didn't have to pay for it since it was given to me by my work. But after using it, I have to say that this thing has THE worst Bluetooth platform I have ever used in a phone.

When I am at home, my phone sits on my desk, and I like using the bluetooth headset so I can move around my apartment while on the phone. I also have a Razr v3i, which like the original Razr has the best bluetooth receiver that I have used. With the razr I can go anywhere in my apartment and even once walked out to my car and never have any static or reception problems with my headset.

When using the same headset with my Treo, it is horrible. Actually even if my treo is sitting on my desk and I am sitting in my desk chair, I will get static if my head is turned away from the treo.

I can't understand how a device, even an expensive one like the treo can have such bad bluetooth, and Palm never did anything to update or correct the problems. It is obviously a major design flaw. Of course we won't even talk about about regular volumn issuses which force people to buy a 3rd party program just to increase it to usable levels.

I dunno, I guess I am disapointed in the Treo. Sure I really like it as a PDA and internet device, but it is a disaster in the phone department.

How are the newer Treos? Like the 700p or 700w. Did they fix any of the hardware issues? Or is is just a bandaid job.

Hey! I was just about to make this exact same post! ...

I have been using my Plantronics Voyager bluetooth headset, with my T650 for 3 months now. It is worthless. All the problems listed above apply to my situation. Sometimes its great but at least 70% of the time I can hear the static, or people are telling me they can't understand me (and I have 4 - 5 bars). This is with the phone in my hand mind you, not even in my pocket.

So this past weekend I borrowed my roommate's phone for a while. Not sure what he has ... some decent normal phone from Verizon. Anyawys, bluetooth works just fine and was just a little sketchy if I walked away a few feet, but in my pocket worked fine.

I'm pretty much fed up with the bluetooth headset on the treo. My other roommate has a different headset, so I might try that, but I'm not very hopefull. I'm probably going to sell my Plantronics and get a wired headset (which I am very unhappy about). Its going to be a pain to have my nice sony earbud headphones and a wiredhead set. *le sigh* This is seriously my only complaint about the T650 after 6 months of use and an crap ton of apps on it. I would also be interested in hearing how the 700s are fairing.

it really depends a lot on the actual phone... so many people have different results it's amazing... people can have the exact same setup and 1 will work flawlessly and 1 might not even connect...lol
I used to have a lot of problems but I did a custom ROM and it's been much better... that being said it is amazing that the Treo is so hit or miss... wish Palm would get that s**t together...

I use 2 headsets. The Moto H500 and the Plantronics Discovery 640. The H500 is awesome with battery life and call clarity. The only thing I don't like is that the phone won't always connect when I answer from the headset. The 640 however is awesome. Great call clarity, answers from the headset everytime and small and virtually out of site. The bad news....the battery life is horrible. I get at the most 2 hours of talk-time...if i'm lucky. It's usually around 1 1/2 hrs. I have to charge it every day. This is obviously not good. Any suggestions........

When it comes to a bt headset, I would like something that you can set the phone down and walk around the room, the 650 doesn't have that luxury.

I, too have heard that the 700 will have a better bt, but I have yet to try it out! hmm!

Would you explain that to me? You can IM me if it's fairly complex. That would probably work best. All my info is on my account ... obviously.

Thanks.

on both Verizon and Cingular. The BT was not good on either one IMHO.

I recently purchased the Treo 700p from Sprint. The BT is a little better but is still not up to par with my SLVR.

Amen. I use a 640 and get quite a bit of static out of it when linked with my 650. My 8125 works great with the 640.

cingularbred,

I use my 640 for 3 days straight with it connected at all times and it lasts the entire 3 days. I probably actually talk on it for about 3 hours during that time. So I think that you might have a bad battery in it. It should really last longer than that unless you have the 645 with DSP in it.

I use to have a Jabra headset and I ended up returning it like a week later. The headset kicked ***..but when paired up with my phone it was awful. Id put the phone in my pocket and people could not hear me..at times I would have to hold the phone in my hand in order for it to sound decent and even then it still sounded like crap. I'll agree though the bluetooth sucks major *** when it comes to wireless headsets. As with the 700p? I'm gonna pass on that..Maybe I should wait for a 750 or 800p or whatever their gonna come out with..

Which jabra model did you have? I have a bt160 & it works quite well. My mom is the only one who whines about not being able to hear me, but she's half deaf as it is.
