Great Gawsh Almighty Why?!?!

Let me sum up many of the stories I've read in this forum:

"Stupid" customers
Diminishing commissions
Low yearly pay
Bad (or "dumb") co-workers
Bone-headed managers
"crap" companies
Customer violence (even a stabbing!)

Do these things comprise working in this industry?

Why would anyone do this?!

Thats because this is a place to vent. It's a very stressful job. Trust me if i could vent at work in front of a customer, i would do it in a heartbeat. I hold my tongue because I have bills i have to pay for, and a college degree is just two semesters away...

Is it a career?

Maybe for some. It sure as hell aint for me. That's why i'm going to school. Like I said I'm only here because it pays more than most retail jobs, I have great benefits, and i have more vacation time than i've ever seen any company give their employees. With the decent pay comes stress, however. It's not a job for the faint at heart. I've worked retail at many other locations. I've never seen customers like i've seen at wireless retail......I have nightmares about my job. And I'm not saying that to be funny either. But that's a whole 'nother thread in itself

when I sit and think about it I do actually like my job here. But just like any other job out there, there are stresses and stuff that happens that the employees have to vent about. this is where we do ours. and i'm actually making more money here than I have anywhere else. as far as a career... kinda sorta. I could make it a career if I was in more of a corporate position, but it won't be a career as long as i'm on the sales floor.

sure there are some negatives to this job every now and then, but that comes with every job. trust i've done several different careers, from food service to manual labor. i will say that i enjoy this job much better than putting shingles on houses in 100+ degree weather. and the daily interaction with cute girls and their hot moms is enough for me. i also don't know many other 22 years old making close to $40,000 a year!

The jobs (and the pay) are good, but it's also incredibly stressful dealing with so many people's problems. Hell, a few months ago they had to evacuate my entire call center because someone brought in a gun and was smoking PCP in the bathroom. This is one of the extreme examples, of course, but it does show what the stress can do to people...

but there are ways of dealing with stress before it takes you to a level like that. also some of it is starving for attention or there could have been things in their personal life. but i'm not ruling out being stuck behind a computer for 8 hours taking constant calls that may be a factor.

i begun disliking my job since december. thats when the change in my store begun. i couldn't tolerate the lower class of staff i had on top of all the bs i dealt with, so i finally snapped and quit in may.

Posted by: Mourningstar

Oh, I'm sure there were other factors, I was just giving that as a (half-joking) example. If any job could drive someone that far over the edge (with no other contributing factors), that would just be sad...

the ability to leave work at work is a must never take your work home with you and by all means leave your bad mood at work your significant other does not want you to come home all pissy

ive worked in every industry there is and i like this the best good money good benefits just dont let them get to you

it's simple. Because we're (most of us) cellphone junkies, and there are precious few jobs in this world where we can get paid to talk to people about cellphones. Yeah, there's crappy parts of the job, but that's one thing I miss dearly about being in the industry. I used to get paid to do something I do anyways. In my mind, that's the perfect job.

but are we junkies b/c of the job or do we have the job cause we r junkies
i think ur excitement is relative to ur job when i did construction id get ampd about new power tools ok i still do but ur missing the point
ppl that work in i.c.e get worked up over new amps or head units (u said head)
same for tv's its all relative
