going from the w810 to the m600.

i posted a similer thread in the SE forum, but i though i would ask here, i sold my w810, and was considering getting the m600, i was wondering if the mp3 player compared, and also if it had a speaker on it similer to the one on the back of the w810.

i mostly want it for listening to music and maybe the odd cell phone game.
any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I currently have both the m600i and w810i and can tell you the speakerphone on the m600i does not have the volume the w810i does. With regards to the user interface, the m600i requires navigation through several menus to reach the mp3 player (unless you set up a shortcut key) whereas, as you know, the w810 comes with a dedicated hardware key for the mp3 player.

IMO, Sony has done a good job distinguishing and marketing the 2 phones for their primary intentions: the w810i is a walkman phone while the m600i is an e-mail first, multimedia second phone.

Another thing to keep in mind, if your first priority is music, the m600i uses a M2 Micro Memory stick which, at the moment, only has a 1GB capacity. That being said, have you considered a Nokia N91 (4GB)? It's a bit pricey at the moment but is targeted for heavy music listeners.

Hope that helps...

I'd just add the the W950 will be a far better purchase for music use (extra storage, perhaps different menus, etc.

All depends on you exact usage. I myself am looking at the W950, but you know what that most likely wont be here before October no matter what they say.

P990 is the priority and they have enough trouble on their hads with that as is. When it comes out end of summer, they will give that all their attention to launch it.

I'd not expect W950 to turn up until deep into fall, reading for Christmas gifting season.

So I went ahead and got the M600i. I need a phone now not later and hey you can always sell it later if you feel the other one is better when it turns up. Its not that hard to get to the media player - as some above said just change the internet button on the side to point to the media player and you are done.

I do like the onboard 4GB and USB 2.0 in the W950i - that will be super. But I will make that decision when it comes.

And I already like the M600i so much that I am thinking of just pasing on the W950 and waiting until the bring out a camera variant.

thanks for the info,

but i don't see myself needing 4gb of memory, i only really need 512-1gb of memory, but another question i had, is it as easy to put songs on it as the w810, i normally just use the memory stick reader that is on the fron of my laptop.

EDIT: do you find that the headphones have the same sound quality, i've heard its good but not as good.

thanks again to everyone for the info given so far.

I have not noticed a significant difference in headphone sound quality but I would be curious to hear others opinion. The one advantage, which I'm looking forward to trying out, is the m600i's support for the A2DP bluetooth profile which surprisingly the w810i doesn't have. Specifically, I want to try the SE hbh-ds970 earbuds that will allow streaming of music via a bluetooth connection, in stereo.

Ultimately for me, the m600i is my e-mail workhorse; but if I can stream stereo music without sacrificing quality and not have to carry my iPod while traveling all the time, that's even better. Like a lot of others, I'm waiting for the P990 for the full package.

Same thought here. I bought the M600i a week ago and found it to be the phone that's closest to my needs. My original plan was to buy M600i now, sell it when w950i comes out and buy w950i. I like the 4gig internal memory and the look of it. But now since I started using the qwerty keyboard I don't think I'll ever wanna trade it with the w950i. With the m2 card I can easily make up the memory w950i has and as someone pointed up already, I can change the email key to the music key if I want to (in fact, I've already done so on day one). And Most importantly, it is available now

thanks for all the info from everyone, i think i made up my mind, now the only problem is do i get it in white or black??

90%white as it stands right now

Posted by: SupraTT

go for the black, looks much better imo

Posted by: wesseam

i think the black looks good, but imo the white is better.
and my last phone was black and i didn't care for it.

so i ordered a white m600, now all i need to know is, will the games i got from my w810 work on this phone? i know they wont be full screen, but i have about 400 games save on my computer and it would be nice if they worked.
