HOW TO: "Real Tones" for the Kyocera Milan

It is possible but it is hardly worth it because the ringtones play very quietly.

But what you do is convert your audio file to an 8 Khz, 16-bit MONO PCM (RAW) .WAV file first. You will have to discover what tool works best for you to do this. SoundForge is my personal mainstay, but there are others, such as Audacity, which are free.

The next step is to use a small COMMAND LINE tool from Qualcomm to convert the .WAV into a .QCP file:

http://www.cdmatech.com/products/purevoice_download.jsp

Follow the included instructions.

Next, rename the .QCP file with a .MID file extension. This step IS necessary.

The final step is to upload your converted .MID files using BitPim. Be sure to store the files in the ROOT directory of brew/media/sound/ringer/ and NOT in the subdirectory DEFAULT.

Again, it is hardly worth it, as the conveted ringers are whisper quiet, moreso than even voice memos, which use the same file format. Go figure.

If anyone can find a workaround for this, that would be spiffy.

So it's whisper-quiet, even if you increase/amplify in your sound editor before doing the conversion?

Increasing the volume does not help whatsoever.

It is actually a matter of getting the .QCP (.MID) audio files to play through the loudspeaker.

Currently, using my trick, it seems they will only play thru the earpiece as ringers. But they play out loud if they are saved as Voice Memos.

Go figure.

My method works for the Xcursion, so it may also work for the Candid and Milan. I use Dbpoweramp to convert my mp3s into a 16bit 16khz mono wav file after that you can use audacity to trim that wav file the way you like and then export to 4bit ima adpcm mono wav format. After that rename the file extension to .mid and then transfer to your phone. If your transferring via mms, Keep the file less than 200k. If you would like a sample post an email and I'll send you one.

I have used your method successfully for the Candid, but, unfortunately, it doesn't work at all for the Milan using those same exact files.

Perhaps someone can figure out a better method than mine?
