couple D807 questions...

i searched the forums and couldnt find these answered anywhere. I'm new to Cingular - i had nextel for 7 years, and went to Verizon. Verizon's service completely sucks wehre i live, so they ended up cancelling my service without the ETF. So i went to cingular, and got a D807.

1) mp3 ringtones - can i store them on the mini SD card, or do they need to be on the phone?
2) pictures / movies that i take - can i set those to store onto the SD card?
3) what settings should mp3 ringtones be? (khz/bitrate/etc)
4) what size wallpapers should i make for the phone?

and i dont think there is, but anyone have a clue if there is going to be a hack to increase the headset volume? i rarely use speakerphone, but while the phone is up to my ear, its quiet as hell. I'm able to live with it, but it would be nice to increase speaker and headset volume.

Thanks

Most have been answered in the Samsung forums.

1. Mp3 ringtones need to be in the phones memory to be used as ringtones. You can move them from the MicroSD card if that is how you intend to get them into the phone. You could Bluetooth them to the phone memory as well.

2. They store by default to the phones memory and you can move/copy them to the MicroSD card after. No way to change it to save to the external memory. This is pretty standard on all Samsungs as most of their other phones don't have external memory slots for extra memory.

3. Standard 44khz up to 192kbps is what most Samsungs can use. The filename cannot be too long (more than 65 characters I think) or the phone will not even recognize it.

4. The wallpaper size should be 176 x 220 pixels which is the same as the Motorola V3 RAZR, L7 SLVR, V551/V557.

As for the volume issue, no hack for it yet.

Wow, been waiting for the D807 to come out from Cingular since I've been wanting the D800 but it doesn't have the SD card so I patiently waited for the D807 Cingular version.

But now, I've been reading that there are so many flaws in this model. I actually went to the Cingular store and looked at it the first time it came out when they didn't even had a price for it yet. The guy was nice enougyh to let me look at it and play with it. It was fine for me. But then again, I didn't turn it on.

Oh well...decisions, decisions!

nokia4life the only big flaw i've heard about really has been the low earpiece volume. i've been using the phone for 4 days now and so far no complaints. the reception isnt as good as my V3 but its not bad either. and of course i would like the earpiece and speaker volume to be a little louder but its not that horrible i can deal with it.

For any user - the speaker volume and reception are the most fundamental functions..with thses - a phone can't possible exist...

I've had mine for a week now and don't really have many complaints. Volume certainly isn't stellar, but usable (this is going to completely depend on your own hearing). Reception has been fine. I haven't lost a call in the past week. I think that too many people determine their reception quality by how many bars they have. If a phone can hold onto a call with good sound, then the number of bars is essentially meaningless. Anyway, the only other gripe is the keypad. It's not the best for texting.

Overall, I like the phone.

good point. but its not horrible to the point where it makes it a bad phone, if that makes any sense

Posted by: zadosha

that makes complete sense. it's a good phone. it's just not good for people that have hearing loss. it's certainly not the lowest speaker volume that I have used. In my opinion, it's no worse than an unmodded razr.

i think its slightly louder than an unmodded razr. i would have had to return my razr had i not been able to edit the gain table.

But, the phone STILL notifies me every time I get a new message. I've made sure the account is removed. When the notificiation comes in, it says "start email" and I press "no." Then it asks "confirm next again" or soemthing like that... and I press "no"... but it keeps coming. And of course the manual is of no help.

Anyone know what to do?

make sure your numbers are on your sim card and do a phone reset. thats all i can think of.

Yeah this phone is awesome. The earpeice is kind of low, but it doesn't bother me much. I can still hear it without much trouble, but I never find myself asking someone to repeat themselves it that makes since. My point is the volume isnt so low its not understandable, but it could be louder. Other than that no complaints!

I do have a question though. Is it possible to set a recorded song as your ringtone? If so, how?

Posted by: jjmc2000

Yes it is possible to set mp3 song as ringtone but it is a multi-step process. The maximum length (size) of the ringtone is 600kb and most songs are larger than this so you need to edit the song down to this size and not one kb more or it won't work. I saved mine to a Transflash SD micro card on my laptop and then put it into the phone. Once you find it on the card using the phone you can set it as a ringtone. There are some more detailed instructions on this forum. I did a search and worked through it. I had to download a free sound editor to get the songs to the right size. Also make sure it is saved as an mp3 file or your phone won't recognize it. It took me some time but it works well. good luck.

Oh haha I'm sorry I meant like one recorded through the microphone on my phone. I tried bluetoothing it to another phone and bluetoothing it back to myself, but that didn't work. Is there a way to use it as a ringtone?

Edit//

Would moving it to a different folder work?

Posted by: zadosha

nice attitude. good luck with that. by the way, if you mean a recording of a song that you made through the microphone, it would be called a voice record.

Anywho, I tried moving it to a different folder and it still didnt recognize it as a ringtone. Is there a way to change it to ringtone format? Thanks in advance.
