Got a cable off of ebay, the computer refuses to detect my E815. I even have MPT4.0 and it gets nothing when it autodetects by cable. What can I do? I want to transfer MP3's and images to and from my phone and I'm really lost. If anyone can help, replies, pm's or AIM rkgreen04 thanks. I appreciate it.

e815? is thatr mini usb or serial? try installing the p2kman and drivers for that phone and see if it will help. Usually with that driver set it should recognize it.

its P2K Connector like V400/V600 from the GSM world... and V60, V710, T720/T730 from the CDMA world...

Gensix, if the cable is USB to Serial it wont work.

If the cable is "compatible" with the REAL Moto SKN6311 series... use BVRP's Driver Tool -> http://www.bvrp.com/Customers/Motorola/DriverTool.zip

But if you have VERIZON, you'll need additional work...

for more info... see http://mark.cdmaforums.com and use the HOW TO's...

Just got my 815 2 days ago. I did have a v710 and had it fully modded out (thanks to www.v710.org/mark). When i got my 815 i used the same cable and wala everything worked fine. Loaded all my cotacts edited the seems i wanted. Then tried using bitpim and nothing. So i uninstalled the drivers (drivertools.exe by bvrp) and now XP wont find my phone. Everybody on all these forums talk about "when windows recognizes the phone and yada yada yada" do this and that. But no body goes into "What if windows DOESN'T find it." If ya figure it out or get an answer please email me at neil_hatcher@cox.net thank you

I've got that exact same problem with my E815 - except I never had the drivers installed in the first place - XP simply never saw any new hardware attached to the computer, even if I search for it...I am going to give the driver tool a try again.

I do have a generic cable - but it worked perfectly with my V60....I started a separate thread,,,but hopefully one of these two threads will find an answer...

Sorry, this is a forum, so that every one can benifit, lets keep the discussion here, rather than email..

If your PC saw your phone before... but not now... i.e. THIS cable has WORKED with THIS phone before... possibilities include...

1. Cable not fully seated at either end.. (usually the phone end).
2. cable went bad.
3. connector on phone went bad.

Additional suggestions...
1. with phone disconnected from PC... turn it off, then on, then try again.
2. try a different USB port.. If windows sees it, it will be recognised as a "new device" and drivers will need to be re-installed.
2a. please use a USB Port attached to the computer's system board, NOT a usb hub, or wired to the front panel on a PC's case...

Something else to look at...

Does the phone show up as ANYTHING?? IN device manager when connected? Does it have a ! or ? on it? or just not there?

many of the OLDer cables were USB-2-Serial cables... like Future Dial cables...

These require special drivers, will not get detected as soon as you plug them in (you need to actually kick off Window's Add Hardware from control panel..)..

AND DO NOT WORK for the V710 or E815...

Did the cable come with a CD or anything for drivers? If it did, see if it has a .INF... take a look at it... see if it says something like Prolific (one popular maker of USB2ser)... or anything.

I took the cable apart and tested continuity with a cheap multimeter i have. Everything looked fine but i did notice one thing (metering little pins is hard and I screwed up so it was pointless). Seems that the good makers of the motorola's OEM cable don't like to place heat shrink over the individual solder joints. Since the jacket of the cable doesn't really have much tention, normal ware and tair causes the pins inside the casing (phone side) to torque and short out. One thing i noticed, but failed to mention earlier (because i wasn't thinking) was that the end of my cable was getting abnormally warm. Well i took it apart, took a crappy picture to remember the pinout and resolderd and heat shrunk all the pins to prevent future shorting. Plugged it right in and it worked. I really didn't want to do all that and it was a total pain but better then buying a new cable just to troubleshoot with. I still seem to have some seating issues and it takes me about 3-4 trys until it works but oh well. Hope this is usefull.
