Nokia 6682 - New MMC

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I apologize if this is covered in a FAQ or previous thread. I did some searching and couldn't come up with anything. I ordered my Nokia 6682, and also a 1GB MMC for it. I'll have the MMC before the phone, so I'm hoping it will be as simple as swapping the MMCs out. Are the pre-installed apps and phone settings stored on the phone's memory? I'm hoping that I can just swap them out and use the phone right away with the new memory card. Let me know.. Thanks!

With a card reader, transfer the stuff from your old mmc to your com, then transfer the stuff from the com to your new mmc. Done.

I just did the 1gb upgrade also. Don't know if its neccessary or not but I formated the new card in the phone before doing any transfers. I did the transfers as stated above. Its been working great for the 2 weeks Ive had it.

yip one should usually format before u start using it, glad to hear that it works well for you

Just did a Kingston 1GB upgrade on mine yesterday- works beautifully. I took over 100 full-size photos at our local Independence Day parade Tuesday morning and it didn't even put a dent in the thing! Incredible... I need to go find some movies or lots of music.

taking photos is suppose to put a dent on the phone/mmc?

Can i use a TOPRAM 1GB card ? or pq1 card ? what other brands are safe to use ?

Posted by: angel_wing0

ATP is the best one~

Glad to hear! I plan on putting my gym playlist on my phone, so I don't have to take my iPod everywhere I go. Now if only this thing had 2 MMC slots Boy, I'm starting a wishlist, and I haven't even gotten mine yet (it comes tomorrow!!!)

sorry, I'm new around here. Here is my problem. I have the original 64mb card that came with my 6682. I have some apps and all my text messages and pictures stored on that MMC.

I just got my 1gb kingston card and I transferred everything from the old card to my computer (Mac) using a card reader, then copied everything (folders and all) exactly as it was on the computer to the new memory card but when I put it in my phone, my apps are not in the folders that they are supposed to be. Also, some of the apps are not working.

Anybody has any idea of what the problem is? It is really driving me crazy to the point that I went back to the old card but I really want to use my 1gb card to load music. Also, I formatted the new card as well and nothing.

Thanks

Must be due to the hidden folders.

You'll to un-hide them and then copy to new memory card.

I had this problem. I just reinstalled the apps. I moved the hidden folders and everything, but it still wasn't working right. I figured instead of messing with it I would just reinstall, and that worked.

How did you format the card? You need to format it using the FAT file system on your computer, or use the phone's formatting tool.

How exactly do I do this? For example, the Adobe Reader app shows in the main menu but I only see a general icon and when I try to open it, nothing happens. This app is in the Office folder in my old card. I did not change anything, I copied things the way they were.

u should reinstall it on to your phone instead of just relying on drag and drop

Thanks everyone. Apparently I had some corrupted files on my old card so what I ended up doing is deleting the files that were corrupted. Also I unhid the 'system' folder, then copied everything to the new formatted card. It is working fine now.

The only thing is that Lifeblog has lost some of the linked files and when I go to Import it tells me "Import failed" in the middle of it. Any ideas?

Posted by: thehuydog

hah! i have this same problem. Thanks for the tip.

Posted by: admartinezjr

No problem. I hope it works for you.

Haha.... That is your solution for everything- "master reset". I think he just needs to reinstall the app.

Yeah i like to do that if the app proves to be a pain even if i reinstall

Just stumbled upon this thread. Just to summarize, so theoretically, all that is needed to migrate to a new MMC is to copy the contents of the old MMC to your PC and then copy it back from the PC to a new MMC?

I know it's not this easy when migrating between PC harddrives, but then again, the MMC is not a system drive (does not hold the OS), so things should be easier, right?

Posted by: gene74

where did you guys bought ure MMC? Im looking at outpost and they have a PQI. is that a good one?

Posted by: Pete7874

I just got a 1 GB PQI from newegg. Currently copying stuff onto it. I haven't put it in the phone yet, so we'll see...

Posted by: Pete7874

OK, so I copied everything onto a new MMC, but... while the contents on the old MMC took up 49 MB, after copying to the new MMC, they now take up 73 MB. WTF????

Posted by: gene74

LOL.......... which do u guys think is good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ion=mmc&Ntk=all

OK, I figured it out. It has to do with the fact that the 64 MB card had 1 KB clusters whereas the 1 GB card has 16 KB clusters, so if you have a bunch of tiny files (1800 in my case), a lot of space will get wasted. Unfortunately, since the 6682 only supports FAT file system, it's not possible to format a 1 GB card in such a way that the clusters are smaller than 16 KB.
