8125 - odd 2.5mm jack?

I really like my 8125. I've had it for about 2 weeks. I have noticed something and I'm curious if anyone else can verify this. Is the 2.5mm jack slightly non-standard?

The included headphones/headset work perfectly. Stereo sound and the microphone works great. Callers can hear me clearly. I purchased a higher-quality plantronics wired stereo headset and it wouldn't work - only the right headset worked and the mic didn't work. I returned it and got a different brand, a bodyglove or something, and it did the same thing. Upon trying a couple of my old one-ear headsets, I can hear the caller but the microphone doesn't pick up my voice at all. They all work perfectly on my other 2.5mm phones, but they won't work on the 8125.

If I look at the rings on headphone plugs (the male part), the included headsets have slightly different thicknesses in the bands than all of the other headsets. Thus it makes sense that the connectors in the phone wouldn't pick up on the right spots.

My bluetooth headset works perfectly. So what's up with the headset jack on the 8125? Anyone else confirm or deny this?

Yes, this is true. It is different. I tried all of the ones you mention, and a few more. The jack on this phone is wired like the treo. I bought the shure headset for the treo and it works perfectly. I found an old headset that came with one of my treo's and it works too. The black lines do not match up on the headsets that work with the 8125 and the others such as jabra, bodyglove, etc.

Thanks for confirming it. I can deal with the fact that it's not standard, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong with my 8125.

I'm a big fan of Shure headphones, I'll have to check out their headset. Thanks!

What model Shure headset? Would any treo stereo work with the 8125 then? Any specific treo model to look for? Thanks a bunch! Having a really hard time finding a set!

I have shure headphones and they didn't come with an adapter to fit the 8125. Is there an adapter to convert so I could use standard headphones?

Head down to your local Radio Shack and get one of these....
Adapter

Actually there is an advantage and disadvantage to using that adapter. The disadvantage is that it's like sticking a broomstick in your 2.5 jack. One good catch on your coat pocket or snag on something and you'll wrench your 2.5 jack and possibly break it. There is an adapter from pocket pc techs that has a cable in between.

The advantage is that the radio shack adapter only has 2 rings or something like that which makes it possible to listen to a call on the headphones while speaking into the mic. Basicly you can leave your headphones plugged in when you get a call and talk into the mic. You can not do that on the ppc techs adapter. You have to pull out your headphones before the mic will pick up your voice...

Thats the way it was on the Treo anyway.

Chinky,
Here is the link to the shure headset that you need for the 8125. Its the I2Ct. Follow the link and on that page, you will see a dropdown box to check to see if your phone is compatible. You will see that the cingular 8125 is with the I2Ct. Mine sound awesome. Even better than my son's ipod does. Now, I'm sure that if I bought him a set of shures for his ipod, the ipod would sound better. Maybe he might get lucky for Christmas this year. He is on his second boxwave set. They just don't hold up. This is the second set that has a short in it. I think its becuase they are retractable and it's just too much going on with the wires being wound up and pulled out all of the time.
