Will Cingular offer Nokia Slider?

Does anyone here know if Cingular is going to have any Nokia slider phone? 6282? 6280? etc...? Thanks.

no 6282 it was suppose to have been cancelled because of lack of 850 utms. pretty stupid because 850 utms doesnt even exists yet. you will have to wait for nokia to release it. if they do. if you want a nokia slider try the 6270 its quad band plus edge

once again, youd think cingular would love this.. people buy thier 6282's and n80's and then a year later buy a whole new phone because it only works with half of cingular's network. cingular is so dumb, they pretty muich have it made, the european companies broke the 3g barrier so nokia makes all these cool 3g phones now, and cingular could have those right from the launch of thier network... however cingualr insists on starting from the begining again and offering crappy feature-less phones like a smasung and lg.... give me a break

Wirelessly posted (whatever the next lines says: Nokia9300/6.01 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 Mozilla/4.0 compatible; MSIE 5.0; Series80/2.0 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

not true all cool 3g nokia phones wont work on cingulars utms network. they are 2100 and 2100 doesnt exsist yet(it does not for use though) so there worthless. cingular will run dual band utms/hsdpa on 1900 first then 850 tdma is gone

sorry i wasn't specific enough. i was implying that the phones just had to have the frequency switched. Take for example the N80... nokia proposed a 1900 umts version but cingular said no.. when providers launched 3g in europe, nokia hadn't even made a cool phone yet for their 2100 mhz... that's what i ment sorry for not being clear

talk to Nokia about being dumb. They couldn't even get the 6282 to work in it's current state, never mind adding U850

Well, Nokia is the best cell phone manufacturer in the world, not to mentioned the largest one. Cingular is definitely not the best carrier in the world, nor the largest. So, maybe Cingular is at fault too? Oh, and let's not forget corporate politics either...

Politics maybe, but how could it be Cingular's fault if the Nokia phone didn't pass tests? Nokia the best? They preform the best on the Cingular network, but Cingular doesn't exactly sell off of them either, they pick and choose. No manufacturer has a 100% track record either. I like Nokia, but some of their phones have and do suck, they aren't perfect.

So is there any chance that Nokia retools the 6282 (maybe now called the 6282i) to include the 850mhz wcdma band? Seems wierd that we all saw that there were cingular branded 6282s, and cingular brochures and everything for this phone, and now its just DOA? Ive heard they are retooling the N80 to include the 850mhz. I just think, there has to be more going on than we can see.

I don't think Nokia redoing a phone would be a fast process. WOuld you still want the 6282 in another 9 months or something like that? I doubt it.

I just wish they had put the VGA video recording in the 6126. That's the main reason I wanted the 6282.

So are the 6282 and N80 (with 1900) totally DOA even direct from Nokia? Can these phones use Cingular's 3G out of the box, or do they need permission to access the network? Just curious.

Helpermonkey, thanks for all the info throughout the forum! Much appreciated.

First off thanks for the thank you.

As to the 6282 and the N80 being killed by Nokia, I don't think that is the case, but then that isn't really anything I would have inside info on. I know people have claimed that Nokia plans to sell them direct. To the best of my knowledge I don't know of any reason you couldn't get one of the two and use them just like you would with a GSM mobile that is unlocked. Surely there would be some configuration required as there is with GSM to get all the services working properly (like SMS, MMS, internet etc.), but I think after that everything would work fairly well.
