V180 unlock issue

Ok, so I unlocked my v180. Got the code from tmobile. I tested it with a cingular sim and a nextel sim. Both went through fine, didnt ask for subsidy passcode. So, someone buys it and puts a cellular one sim in it. It goes through with no prompt for the password but it tells them "network not available" after registering for a while. I had done a master clear and reset to get rid of all my stuff before sending it out. Do they have to go into the setting "Networks" and choose cellular one as default or something like that? Or does cellular one use a different frequency that the tmobile v180 doesnt have. Like as in a tmobile branded v180 cannot work with cellular one regardless of being unlocked?

its possible the only network available is the one you were using, so using a different provider's SIM will NOT find their home network. thus, why they cant register. they should check the cellular 1 footprint to see if the area they are in is covered, but im guessing its not since their sim cant find the cellular one network. makes sense, no?

Yes, it makes sense. But they claim that they are using cellular one with a different phone (another v180) at the same location with no problems. Is it possible that a tmobile branded v180 only has certain bands enabled and that cellular one uses a band not covered by the tmobile phone?
