Disabling EVDO on Verizon....Consequences?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

What will not be functional on my phone if i disable this?

I am hesitant,, but prolonging the battery life is what i would love, since i also use my phone as an MP3 player.

Will GIN still work? Will it affect my calling areas?

Asking anybody who's tried it, what have you noticed?

Everything works exactly as usual except data services are slower if you're in an EV area. I won't get it fully deployed here until September so I've had mine disabled since I got it.

Works really well.

Have not charged it in 3 days. Usually i had to charge my phone every night.

It has been since July 2nd, and my phone's battery i still at 92% and i have used it every single day as a media player for about 2 hours everyday.

EVDO really drains the life of your phone. Maybe if Verizon concentrated more on the quality of service instead of the quantity, the would be the best in my book.

There are only 2 reasons i have them. First my wife needed a phone for travel, and the e815 was becoming very hack friendly.

Anyways, anyone who is not interested in Internet connection times, must do this hack. You definitley will notice a difference in battery life.

So that means mobile web, GIN, pix messaging, etc. are slower, correct?

Thanks for the update h8uman, my battery has been acting a little odd since I've had the phone. I would have a full bar and then two days later it'd be empty with light use, even though it shows i'm on 1x network.

Reception also determines battery life. If you get bad reception, your phone needs to "work harder", therefore using battery.

How do I disable the EVDO on my new V3M phone? And, can it be reversed?

I've tried to find the answer but I suppose I'm not searching the right terms. Searching for "disable evdo" brought me here.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Humpa!

Unfortunately, even though I was able to disable EVDO, I still am unable to enter Nat'l Access through the back door like I could on my previous phone, a T730.

http://mark.cdmaforums.com - go to the "How To" page. I believe the 2 "How To's" that deal with #777 DUN are #27 and #29. If you want to use EVDO #777 DUN then read the "no pap dun" one (actually, that one will work for 1xrtt tethering too). But the other one just requires forcing to 1xrtt and using ONLY PAP authentication in your dial up window security properties.

Many thanks again Humpa!

Your link and information were right on and the instructions did the trick.
