Would anyone know if the 8125 has AMR-HR enabled? If it is enabled, is there a registry hack/program to turn it off? Also, is there a program to view the current networks available, signal strength, codec, etc on a Windows Mobile 5 device?
Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere, but a search for "8125 amr-hr" in this forum turned up 101 threads, only one of which, started 2 March, was relevant. And that thread had no replies.
Thanks!

Never heard of such a mod...if there was one I'm sure it would be well known to many.

The PDA doesn't really talk directly with the codec, or the literal phone portion if you will. It tells it what number to dial with a set of AT commands, much like an old serial modem. That's why it's non-trivial to record both sides of a conversation on a PDA phone - the conversation doesn't really go through the PDA portion.
To get this back on topic though, the transmission codec (AMR-HR vs. AMR-FR) is probably defined by the radio ROM and not a registry setting. As the code in the radio ROM isn't really understood, it's very unlikely that you'll find a hack that disables AMR-HR unless an operator like O2 or T-Mobile releases a radio ROM that doesn't support AMR-HR due to the requirements of their specific network.

There is an engineering menu on the HTC 8125 where you can view the signal strength , but IMO it isn't presented in a format where it's helpful. That's my small gripe about WM based phones is the signal strength meter (for a lack of a better term) only uses numbers like 0,1,2,3...13 and not the actual reading.
If you want the advanced network menus you'll either have to change the ROM on it or use a different SIM card, though the latter won't to help too much.
