Less than believable - all the BBs by me don't even carry PDA phones....

Actually quite believable, different BBs have different stocks... it all depends on which store model they've built in your town... I don't know where they are now, but when I worked for BB there were 5 store models... If the regional and district management feels that your community will buy up the stock in a 5 store than that's what you'll get, they have different layouts and different stocks. There's a bb two minutes from my house that has PDA phones and alienware pc's and there's one an hour away that only has the free phones, basic hp pc's
It all depends on the individual store. And yes, Best Buy will carry the 8525. That's not from a friend, that's from me walking behind the desk and checking it myself.

Now that's a good source of information

I said weeks ago that the 8525 was in our system in BBY, but I also said never trust our street dates.

Amen to that...

Just FYI.....I live in an upscale part of Dallas Tx and the closest Best Buy carries all the PDA's from all three major carriers.

And by the way, the 5th is a date that falls on a Sunday again.....is Cingular just teasing us all or are they bound and determined to release this thing on a weekend so we cant all order the phone for next day delievery

Posted by: FIMM011

I think that shipments will be made during this week and the release will be simultaneous for both cingular.com and the cingular stores I remember reading that somewhere so I think shipments will be made during this week to the stores and will be able to be sold this sunday Only my theory. Sunday release may seems strange but sunday is the first day of the business week in retail.

OK, now that was cool. This is the HOFO I like. Thanks for being a standup guy RF9. Conekkted is standing here at my desk and agrees. If the fool wasn't banned he'd say so himself. Please understand that his inappropriate post was a heat-of-the-moment reaction like yours. So no big deal.

We are not privvy to when the 8525 will actually come out. We hear the same rumors that you all do. But some of us do have the phone and can only say WOW. It makes me realize how poor the 8125 really is for power users.

Posted by: exchguy

To anyone that has both 8125 and testing the 8525 how does the performance compare? Does the 400mhz Samsung CPU in the 8525 vs. 200mhz OMAP cpu in 8125 make that much of a difference?

I know this isn't a Palm 680 thread, but did you see any info on a release date for the 680? Still 11/5? TIA

As far as overall system performance, I can't see a huge improvement in speed. However, applications that ran slowly on my 8125 seem to run a little better on my TyTN. But I guess I don't do a WHOLE lot of processor-intensive stuff anyway. I mostly use the TyTN for streaming audio, email and SMS - keeping on top of business communication really, all of which worked pretty well on the 8125.

The only reasons I upgraded to the TyTN was for 3G data speeds (which suck, considering the 2G-to-3G transitioning problems we're seeing on Cingular's network; ok the data speeds don't suck, but I hate having to manually switch back and forth between GSM and UTMS) and the JOGGR, which I have sorely missed since I sold my Sony Ericsson P900.

I sincerely hope you are kidding, I’ve seen people in this thread kill for less. However I am going to assume your right and freak out and smoke 2 packs of cigarettes. So to recap.

a) We have the 29th is blown to crap
b) We have 11/9-11/16
c) 12/01
d) Feb.........

For Christ sake, I hope this bloody things comes out soon, I am not sure if we can wait 30+ more days.

Didn’t we hear there are dual releases for the 680 and the 750? And something about how this phone is suppose to be released right after the 6925? I am getting so fed up with this, every day we get a new release date and everyday it gets pushed back. Everyone was so cheerful after the approval was posted too. I bet some Cingular exec is just toying with us for kicks.

I think you're referring to my post on the "right after hw6925 release." I never said "right after," I said "not before."

Do the different bullets and ?'s mean anything on that "Straight from Cingular" Document?

Posted by: pcmike

It doesn't even matter if Cingular says 12/01. Obviously they've said alot of stuff now and no one (not even people in Cingular) seem to know officially what is going to happen. I'd just keep your hopes up for 11/05, its all you can really do.

Posted by: URPREY

I guess if the Razr V3R Red releases tomorrow, that might give us a better idea what to expect...

Posted by: RulinSmoove

i bet they dont release till feb. exactly 1 year after the release of the 8125 so users can't use the 1 year return policy.

Cingular will continue to send those people 8125's, they ONLY way they would send them an 8525 is once the 8125 new stock, and refurb stock is completely depleted.

I bet there is a Cingular rep reading this thread right now on their 8525 laughing their butt off.

Don't know when this went up, but phonescoop.com now has the 8525 listed as a new phone. It also has a second FCC approval of Oct 27 for the NM8HERM200. Here's the link: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=954.

It looks like it is available now to select people:

Come on people ARGUING OVER THE INTERNET IS LIKE THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS, WHILE IT IS AN EVENT NOBODY REALLY WINS.

Best carrier? At least in Arizona, that is not true. Service form Cingular here is pretty spotty and I get many dropped calls, dead spots, and voice cut outs. We do however have 3G and from what I was told from Cingular is that they are adding 30 new towers here in Phoenix/Glendale before the year ends. Alltel has the best coverage in Arizona, for me, when I have no service with Cingular I have 5 bars with Alltel.

It's still forwarding us back to the old-skool 8125's product page at the moment, but a tipster has managed to coax Cingular's site into giving up the goods on the 8525 -- Buy Now link and all. We're guessing it has something to do with region or Premier account status, we're not sure, but the point is that a select few are able to place their orders for Cingular's first HSDPA smartphone as we speak. Breaking out the wallet might be hard to justify for folks in 2G areas coming from an 8125, but if speed and power are top priorities, lick your chops as you read the full specs (highlights include a 400MHz Samsung core, 2-megapixel cam, and that fabulous 3G radio) after the break.

Looks like you guys missed this ... Does anyone know what happened?

Especially northern Arizona.

I'm from Page... where Cingular depend on roaming off other company. No EDGE, no HSDPA, and NO UMTS... That includes almost all areas of northern Arizona... mainly Coconino County.

From the look of the FCC pictures... especially the internal one... I see a ATI chip inside of it... WHAT COULD IT BE????

A new GPU for the device?? I WISH!

Posted by: TriAxis

If your on the Premier site and you type in the address for the 8525 it takes you to the 8525 page. On this page it has a "Buy Now" field. The only thing you can do is type in your corporate email address and click GO. After you do this the only thing that happens is you get an email sent to your corporate email with the link to the Premier site. And their is still no 8525 available (at least not for my company)

Its a vicious vicious cycle.

That marketing slick was up last week, but it did not allow anyone to purchase. It was just a marketing thing showing specs. I'm sure marketing was all ready to go, but the phone wasnt.

I am not able to get to this, I can get into premier, but what is the address?

Posted by: Jakaroe808

I just got off the phone with a "Representative to the President" and even they have no clue about the release but he was willing to share everything else about the device, including what it looked like and the specs (not that I didn't know already.. I humored him.. "Oh.. Wow.. That sounds nice.."). As I recall the 8125 was kept under heavy wraps right up until the point of its release. All he could offer is that it would be out within two months, but it was a total guess based on what he was showing on his monitor.. ??

Sorry, I should have added "and coming as your first post on HoFo" - sure looked like a spoof to me. Enough other BB folks have chimed in that I'll accept that I *should* believe - even though NONE of the BBs I've visited in several states have ever had PDA phones on display at least.

I'm only hoping these beasts are in Fry's by mid-Nov when I'm next near one, but I'm thinking that's not likely

Goes right to 8125. What zip code are you in?

Posted by: mage100

Txschafers, variations of the "what zip are you in?" have been tried before with no real conclusion. I am in Texas and I can see it, but others have tried my zip (75074) to no effect. Anyway, it doesn't really matter as it is just a marketing page. At this point I don't think anyone has a definitive date, so might as well sit back and relax. I check here because I know that the moment it is available, there will be about eight pages of "OMFG I JUST ORDERED MINE!!!!!" and then I will log into Premier and get mine as well.

Posted by: mage100

Well, what do you know? Interesting. For me the page comes up with the 8525 (instead of the 8125 re-direct that some get), but all I can do is enter my email address.

Mobilet68i, can you walk us through how you ordered from the Marketing page?

Posted by: jimalaiyah

It has nothing to do with zip code. Each company has a separate deal with Cingy. Whereas someone that works for, say an ad agency or AT&T or something, will see it first, those who work for a teachers union in Arkansas, while still having a Premier account, won't necessarily get the same deals, same discounts, or the same phones at the same times... etc...

jimalaiyah, I agree, that is the most sensible explanation. Though I am a bit surprised then that I don't have access, I work for a large Telecom that is both a large customer and supplier to Cingular. Oh well, patience is a virtue I suppose.

You can't just click on this link from the regular internet.
http://business.cingular.com/businesscenter/8525/
If you do it will redirect you to the 8125 page. You have to be on the premier site first, either from your companies computers or through VPN like I do it. I just logged in and checked and still no 8525 available for me.

mobilet68i - if you did buy it, how much did they charge you? Also what is the with/without contract prices?

If people get an email, so what?
Maybe they will see just how desired the 8525 is.

To further verify, just chatted with a Cingular Premier Rep and this is exactly what transpired. Notice the next week or two part.

Me: I am trying to purchase the 8525 from the business center section, when I click on the Buy It Now button my browser shuts down.
Robb B: Welcome to Cingular Wireless Premier Support, my name is Robb B. I am reading your question and will be right with you.
Robb B: That phone is not yet available for order.
Me:But if you go to http://business.cingular.com/businesscenter/8525/ it is right there.
Me: You have to be on the premier site first
Robb B: That's an error - the information on that page is accurate, except for the fact that it's not yet available. It should be released within the next week or two, but it is not in stock & not available for order.

I called today as well and was told the HP6925 was not available to order either - they had 0 in stock. So that shows what NBO's 2 cents are worth

Perhaps this has been mentioned somewhere in the past 30 pages -- and I'm certainly not going to bother reading through all that drivel again -- but I thought I'd let you know that the "inside man at Cingular" who's supplying the test 8525 ROMs over on XDA-Developers has stated that battery drain issues (namely with Goodlink and Xpressmail) are further delaying the 8525 launch. This information is roughly 45 minutes old...

Posted by: Jakaroe808

I'm having a hard time computing that we may be waiting another month.. It just seemed so close.. 12/1?

Edit: For the post above

With issues like this is it fair to say that it is not really approved? Who's info is correct?

Thanks,
Well hopefully their Nit-Picking results in less issues for us to deal with, and less reason for us to get angry for them releasing it with all kinds of bugs.

They Say; 'Good Things Come to Those Who Wait'
But, we still had to wait.

I wouldn't be using Goodlink or Xpressmail.

Maybe I'll just get a TyTn so I can get rid of Sprint...

I picked up an 8125 on 10/27, and she said I have 30 days to decide if I want it. I just hope that the 8525 comes out before 11/27 so that I can exchange them before my 30 days runs out. The 8525 looks awesome. I like the fact that they added a wheel on the side like the Blackberrys. That's convenient when you are driving and can't pull the stylus out. The 2mp camera looks pretty sweet too, not to mention a 400mhz processor. I can't wait to get one of these in my hands.

That is one of the routes I've been contimplating.
That way I could get a head start on WM, I'm coming from POS.
I will try and hold on a little longer.

Posted by: exchguy

As if we didn't need any more fuel to the fire..this was posted on the Engadget comment thread today..anyone buy this? I'm not sure I do.

Here i the scoop. Cingular has briefed it's business sales force that this is available today! But the it people have not updated the ordering screens as of yet. Orders will be taken later today or after midnight tonight. My bet is after midnight the business accounts will be able to get this sucker.

No front camera, and a two year deal! i guess you take the good with the bad. A tytn will cost you $750.00. $400.00 aint bad!

Posted by: berdinkerdickle

Even Tho I don't have Premier, I'd be glad just to see anybody get it.

Posted by: mobilet68i

Now do you al believe that I ordered one?

Posted by: benfica88

It took about a month for the 6925 release after the approved switch, so a 12/01 release for the 8525 seems like the most logical.

My thoughts as well. The 8125 is my "guinnea pig". A year from now I'll be looking at the next new gadget (8725 or something). I am sure we will be all upset because they did not integrate WiMax, 4g, a 5mp camera, and bluetooth 4.0, not to mention Windows Vista mobile.

Fortunately, I can afford (technology wise) to pass on the 8525. I'll just catch the next bus.

It's not on Premier yet. Neither is the Treo 680 actually.

MOG, I respectfully disagree.

While it is true that technology continues to improve incrementally, you can look back at certain milestones and say, "Here is where the thing reached a point of development that it changed the game."

I believe the 8525/TyTN/Hermes is one of those devices. In addition to my own humble opinion, I've noticed a few others on this board mention that this device is the one they've been waiting years for. It seems that there are more than the usual motley assortment of phone geeks hanging around this thread. Speaking of which, the 8525 has more slobbering red-eyed interest than any other converged device currently being discussed on HoFo.

The cumulative evolution will cause this device to be revolutionary, given a lack of showstopping usability gaffes.

My 1.5 cents.

This is what I've been getting told too. I don't know how much longer I can last. My Sprint PCS service is officially shut down. I'm phoneless! I'd get the 8125 until this comes out, but it would be a PITA to exchange it via Premier. I'm normally a patient person, but I don't enjoy the giant cloud of mystery around it's release date. Something solid would ease my decision.

Oh well. Like I said before. I am not paying attention to dates anymore. I just hope the 8525 comes out before I scratch up my 8125 so I can sell it for a decent price.

Very well put. I purchased and still own one of the first 850 Jams to come into the US (it's a super Jam) and I have been very happy with my purchase even with the advances (WM5, keyboard, etc). There will ALWAYS be better tech next year. If you wait for the "final" round of improvements, you'll be waiting forever. Every review, pro or owner, basically says the same thing: the Hermes is the defacto standard for the state of the art in a PDA phone. It is a mature product line from the folks that make more of these things than anyone and it has almost every feature that the power users have been asking for (I'd still like to see SDIO and 128MB of RAM, but given the other advances, those issues are minor).

My Jam would certainly do for the next year or so, but there are so many features that have been updated between then and now, that I am comfortable moving up even through I have well over a grand in my Jam.

Certainly, I expect to hear of a great new phone in the next 6 months, but that just means it'll be 24 months from now before I can buy it in the US. I'm perfectly willing to have a sub $500 investment in a phone (8525 with contract) that will hold me for that period.

That sounds oh so swell.... until a year or two from now when they add:

600 mhz processor
256 mb RAM
512 mb ROM
802.11 a/b/g
3.2 mp camera with 3x optical zoom
Integrated GPS
Dedicated Graphics Chip
Windows Vista Mobile
Thinner and lighter!

These features are at least possible within those timefames.

and as Spongebob would say:

Are you feelin' it now, Mr. Crabs?

i am in the same boat. i hear that it is approved from .7 and that is good news. Now we just need to sit back and wait. the were so many rumors that the hp unit was not going to make it and it did. i dont think cingular will let the 8525 escape and not make it to the shelves, it looks like it will be the flagship handset for cingular. i think we all need to just sit back and wait now. let the idoits who want to post what they heard from the mouse in the wall next door during lunch at their sister's house post what ever the hell they want now.

Posted by: brainiac978

Even if these people heard it from the "mouse next door", why does everyone have something different? Wouldnt it be easier for Cingular to say it will be out by a certain date? I realize it's a catch-22 situation but still? Something official would calm a lot of people down. Even if the date changes for whatever reason. Just my $.02

it might be, but at least we have some better information that is coming rather than it is not coming. with all the pictures and web site slip ups, i think we may see it before the year ends. i hope we do. i hope cingular does not think that us gadget freaks are going to go crazy for the 8125, 650, and the hp 6925 during this holiday season. i hope cingular is working hard on the 8525 to get that sucker out. i have read here and some other web sites that the 750 is having some problems, so we can probably count the palm out for this year, and i doubt too many high end users are going to go for the 680, a rehashed 650. hopefully the 8525 is not that far off.
