i want this thing bad... but considering how long it took the 8125 to actually hit retail... i dont expect it until 1st quarter next year.

we had marketing tools for the 8125 in december but the store didnt get it until february in limited quantities! and i mean limited... employees didnt get to buy one until 2 months later. If you want to pick this up from cingular and really make sure you're getting one.

activate a new line of service. you will be pushed to the top of the list.

...

does it support push e-mail?

Posted by: KlamshellKing

yea, i mean i check on it often too, but hes like going crazy and posting a response to every post... i mean its fine, i guess since he doesnt even ahve a real phone lol... the slvr lol... and it sucks for his treo. yea i wish cingular would just freakin release it already, i wish that tommorow when i wake up, cingular releases it...

Posted by: 100thMonkey

Its gonna be so worth it guys, well as long as cingy doesn't cripple the wifi. I love my TyTN, though I am also excited about Treo 750. I think I prefer the bar, static keyboard to the slider.

What? 1st quarter? First time I have heard that in a while. We still have 4 months left in 06 and we have already seen this thing from testers.

When people started saying mid september, I basically lost all hope.

Posted by: RF9

I anticipate a big marketing push for Christmas sales. You wouldn't think of the wireless industry being really driven by Christmas sales the way the rest of the retail space is, but people really do get phones for people as gifts. So they want to have new phones out in time.
I think this is why you hear these people who are "testing" them told that they want to have a quick turn around to get it out by Oct, in order to make it for the holiday sales.
In the consumer electronics industry (which I work in,) product has to be on the shelf by Sept 15th at the very latest for Christmas. It's different for the wireless, they have a bit more time.
But that's my theory for a fall release.

I have as well...

I've been a lurker but I'm dying for this phone so I felt a need to post...

Can someone post how to configure an unlocked HTC TyTN to work with Cingular's 3G network?

Also, what kind of speeds do you get on the Cingular HSDPA network in the USA? Basically, I am trying to confirm that this phone works on the Cingular HSDPA network.

Agreed.. I think this is probably an accurate theory and without any major testing problems I would think a fall release is correct. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

does anyone have a good price range on this yet??

Posted by: pcman

I remember this same type of waiting for before the 8125 came out.
I waited months and got the 2125 then 8125 but like all I NEED MORE SPEED and this device 8525 should do the trick.
Is the camera crappy like the 8125 ?
Any word on UMTS in Philly/S.Jersey area

thanks

Posted by: KlamshellKing

wow... not many posts today. anyone have any clue to a release date or price? i need to buy it without contract. so do you guys have a good estimate without tax??

Posted by: KlamshellKing

if you guys read some of the comments at engadget about the 8525... a lot of people are saying it will be released in september... that would be amazing. for like 500 bucks, and i sell my 8125 for 300... some dude said he asked people at a store and they said from now to september 10th. hey, it could happen because remeber how cingular released the cu500... it was like overnight

I would think it would be somewhere around the price of the 8125 at launch, maybe $50 more.

Mark my words, it will not be released in September. I would love to be wrong, but with the natural progression of things it will be lucky to get here before the holidays. The life cycle of the 8125 is no where near the mid point, let alone the end. Doing this in September would just confuse the whole process IMO.

Ok, i cant second guess the almighty .7... lol. but do you know around when it will come out? like are we looking at october? or december? or possibly even 07?

Posted by: gravejoker

Can anyone confirm that you can install new software on the microSD card on the HTC TyTN?

- JoKer

Posted by: 100thMonkey

yup, I have lots installed to the card

Posted by: doctrjay

I've owned a couple PDA phones before, like the Siemens sx66, Imate JAM, Eten m500, etc. I used to pride myself on being able to load videos and show my friends on my phone, but I"m not all that interested in that anymore. At this point, all I want is a PDA, that has WM 5.0 and bluetooth. I think I want the 8525, but I think think I'll even need the faster processor, because I won't be playing videos. If I just want PDA functionality, and I don't want to shell out too much money, should I just get the 8125, or should I wait? I don't care about data plans either, because I"m 21, and a student, so I can't afford it anyway.

P.S.- Will they make me get a data plan if I get the 8125 or the 8525?

Which ROM do you have 100thMonkey? HTC TyTN or iMate JASJAM?

- JoKer

Posted by: .7

If I was to place a bet I would say early next year, but thats a very unedcuated guess. The only thing I'm going on here is lack of info in Cingular and the current life cycle of the 8125 and nationwide availability of UMTS.

But see, didnt the cu500 just pop out... i mean, i didnt even know it was gonna be released. and i woke up and there it was. could the 8525 be something similar because its 3g? also if you think about it, yeah september is almost impossible, but cingulars enabling lots of 3g networks at that time, so it would be smartest for the to release then... but hey its cingular, i wouldnt be surprised if they cancel it lol

TyTN, I haven't tried the iMate ROM yet

Posted by: aadadams

I tried the TyTN ROM and gave it an overrated rating. I am back to the latest HTC ROM. It is much faster and more stable with my applications. Proceed with caution. My advice is to get a back up of your existing install before upgrading because you may want to go back as I did.

yeah, it kind of sucks to be a cingular customer right now. every other carrier is offering some really nice phones that were designed in the last year. cingular customers are still using phones from the early 1970's

Does anyone have an update on the expected 8525 launch? I have my fingers crossed for a Sep launch.

My Cingular corporate rep is telling me first week Oct. I am getting 4 of them if I am impressed.

weve been discussing this... you can read the whole thread to see how its been bouncing... if it comes out this month, i will be to sum it up... but i honestly cannot trust cingular... i think im selling my 8125 for 350, and i just got a free lg 7200 i think it is... which ever the new one is. so if i sell that for 100, ill be rolling in the tytn...

I don't think the 8125 will affect the 8525. I would think that they could both happily coexist with different price points. I think that would be a good thing because some customers that would rather save the money than get the 8525.
But who says Cingular is logical.

i doubt cingular will offer both of the models together for a long time. i could see that with 100-250 phones but when you are talking about high priced handsets, i doubt they want to hold that much inventory and they want to turn over their money quick

I hope this is true. I'm almost sure the phone won't be released this month (Sept.) but between October and December seems very likely based on the info given and Cingular's past encounters with new devices.

I know Philly is testing the network before commercial launch.

Anybody heard of Wisconsin UMTS availability sites or will we just have to "eat cheese"?

Posted by: Midnight Jazz

I'm with .7 on the early-next-year guess for release. That would work for me, since my contract with VZW isn't up until March.

Posted by: txschafers

I was told by our Cingular rep he thought the 8525 was going to drop in September or October. The 750W, according to him, is a 1Q07 but I have heard rumblings that it might be earlier with the Sep 12th announcement on the horizon.

Posted by: PointZero

What the Cingular Rep says and what goes on internally doesnt' always match up. I remember when the release of the 8125 was clammored about, Reps said one thing but it ended up being held up internally.

I'm not, unless it gets apprved and then just sits and waits for months. Either that or there is a big hold up in the final stages of testing.

That's what happened to the 8125. Boy do I remember all that drama for 5 months.

Posted by: doctrjay

***PLEASE TAKE THIS AT FACE VALUE, AND NOT SUBSTANTIATED FACT***

My friend just texted messaged me, saying that he has some source at Cingular, and they told him that the 8525 will be released between the end of this month, and the beginning of next month. And that the "estimated" price will be $599 for current customers.

Once again: I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF THAT THIS IS TRUE. I WAS JUST TOLD THIS BY A FRIEND WHO HAS A "SOURCE" IN CINGULAR.

If its true, then I'm pretty happy. And although the price seems a little high, its on par with the price of the sx66 when it first came would with all its new bells and wistles. I might still go for the 8125 though because I'm too poor to afford the HSPDA plan.

Posted by: KlamshellKing

well today i went to the cingular store and asked someone when itll be out and he said he doesnt know, and i asked him what month and he said october or november

Posted by: goestoeleven

Cingular likes to place the $599 pricetag on new premium devices. I can almost remember when my SX66 was considered a premium device... ah, the good old days last week...

It was just my opinion, but all points indicate that its going to be out for the holidays.

Only time will tell.

I'm surprised they even knew what you were talking about.. I remember inquiring about the 8125 a few months before it came out and the sales guy was telling me he had never heard of it and that Cingular does not make devices. He was convinced I was talking about a nokia. I'm sure some know more than others..

if it is going to come in @ 599, i will def wait and buy the cingular branded one without renewing my contract. the tytn seems to be going for 750 on a couple of web sites. the nokia and star trek have been approved, maybe the 8525 is next

Posted by: sfiorito

Looks like it may actually be September!

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/...t-not-in-stone/

Posted by: jeffreyapierce

I just purchased the 8125 w/ a 2yr. commitment.

I really want the 8525 though.

I have until the end of September to hope the new 8525 comes out and then I can return my 8125 for a switch?

If it doesn't come out within 30 days, what other options do I have to switch phones, or am I stuck until the end of my 2 year contract?

Should I switch to a 1yr. contract within the 30 days and pay the difference in the 8125 cost now? Can you even downgrade to a 1 yr. within 30 days?

LAstly, should I hold off on filling out & sending in the rebate for $100 with the 8125? How could you return it if you claimed the rebate? Or can't you?

Any suggestions?

Posted by: sfiorito

I would return the phone. Even if the 8125 doesn't come out for another month or more I would just wait so you can get the full discounted price when the 8525 comes out. I'm on a 2 year contract from when the 8125 first came out and if I decide to get the 8525 right away I'll have to pay full price for it.

Posted by: aadadams

I agree with ^^^. Return it and wait, because the move after 30 days will be expensive.

Posted by: jeffreyapierce

If I return it, say for a replacement 8125 (it keeps locking up and stalling every 20 min), does the 30 days start over with the replacement 8125?

If I return it now & wait, I will lose my number right? (the number needs to stay with me),

just looking for other ways to get around this, if any. Apprecite your help!

Can I downgrade to a 1 yr. commitment? That way I wont have to wait too too long, say if this doesnt come out until Q1 2007. I assume I'll have to pay the difference in the original cost of the phone ($349) to downgrade?

Posted by: VerizonGuy1

now i'm getting really optimistic about getting this phone. it was down to either this or the SE w810, but i don't even see the w810 on that engadget mobile post that was linked to a few posts up. 399 with 2 year contract for this phone would be great as i have a potential sale lined up for 300 on my ipaq hx4700 so i wouldn't have much out of pocket which is nice

now i'm getting really excited, the end of the month can't come soon enough

Posted by: aadadams

If you downgrade You would get pay an additional 50 bucks and forfiet the rebate.

Fiongers are crossed on this post!! I am going to go through my company to get the 8525. If our discount holds up I should be able to snag it just south of $300 with no contract.

Posted by: VerizonGuy1

yea, my college (indiana/purdue fort wayne) has a discount with cingular through IU that is available to all studends and faculty if i can get it for 299 that would be amazing, but i could even see eating 100 on the sale of my ipaq and paying 399

Posted by: RF9

I was over at the Cingular developer's site today and noticed that the 8525 is listed as "Q3 2006."
http://attwsddp.hadw.com/developer/devices/PDAs/
I'm sure this is merely a rough estimate, but it at least shows the original intention of launching it prior to Oct 1 (Q3=July1-Sept31.)
Don't read too much in to it, just that it's yet another re-enforcement (added to all of the other posting/rumors) of a possible early Oct. release.

I'm just so anxious to get it, I'm simply turning a foolish blind eye to any negative news (to it coming out later or next year.) Fooling myself? Yes.

I'm having second thoughts. I'm starting to wonder if I should get the new Treo 750W instead. We'll see with the announcement on Sept 12th. If the specs don't add up it's an easy choice (for the 8525) but if it's comparable I'll have a hard time choosing since I understand it's also planned for around Oct.
It all comes down to the form factor and release date if the specs match.

I noticed on that site it states that the 8525 uses a miniSD. This would seem to differ from the TyTn that I thought used microSD.

Yeah.. I dont think that info looks accurate.. It also says the display is 2.8in VGA..

Posted by: aadadams

They're Cingular developers, what do you expect? No offense intended.

Posted by: KlamshellKing

theres so much evidence that indicates itll be released this month... but all the people with actual release info are saying it wont be... who to believe?

Posted by: Jakaroe808

Well, all the September notes look tentative.. I think everyone is saying next month because Cingular does not have the best track record when it comes to releasing devices on time. I think there could be a Chance for a Sep. release but I would not put money on it. Early next month is my guess.. Cingular, prove me wrong....

Posted by: KlamshellKing

well honestly i dont care, i love my 8125 more than ever. so as long as its released by the end of this year when 3g is almost everywhere ill be happy

I think more like early Oct.
Believe... Whatever you want to believe.
But HOPE for and early Oct. Release.
Realsitically we could all be fooling ourselves and they're right. It won't be any time soon.

What rekindled your love for the 8125? just curious...

Posted by: txschafers

I really liked my 8125 but sold it in advance of the 8525 to get maximum dollar for it. I ended up getting quite a bit more then I paid for it since I bought it via our corp discount and the on-line price was a mis-print I was able to take advantage of. I am using my 8700 right now but really miss the functionality of a WM5 device. The 8525 cannot get here soon enough for me.

yea, i love the wm5 platform and i wanted to get the 8125, but the TI OMAP processor was killing me. the only real disappointment about this device is that its lacking the front facing camera thats on the TyTn.

and i'm curious about this, hows the size of the TyTn (or 8525 if somebody has one) compared to the 8125.

Posted by: gravejoker

from what I have heard, it's the same tho the TyTN is a little slimmer and heavier .. you might want to check the specs to be sure

its 2 mms thinner thats it

Posted by: aadadams

In the hand the 8125 feels a lot bigger. Don't really understand it but it does. When I compare them visually the TyTN seems alot thinner. You really have to physically compare them to appreciate the TyTN's size.

most of the psecs for the 750w have been leaked. in my opinion i doubt that there will be any deviation from the vodaphone version. palm is not known for having that many different products to be floating around.

Posted by: KlamshellKing

I think ive taken the treo 750 off my list... its down to just the tytn or 8525... Ill think about if its worth getting the tytn, if not ill just wait for the 8525

Posted by: RF9

Yes, after going back and looking at the 'leaked' specs on the Treo 750, I've decided it's the 8525. Mainly it's the lack of Wifi on the Treo if I have to pick the one deal breaker, but that's not the only thing.
I started flirting with the idea of the 3125 to get WM in to a flip phone, but it doesn't have 3G, and that's the whole point of waiting for the 8525.
It's just hard, you know, after being a Treo fanboy for almost 3 years.
The other thing is that using the Treo keyboard is not healthy on my wrists, the way I have to contort them to use it causes wrist problems.. My Chiropractor has to 'fix' them every so often (and a good job he does.) But the 8525 keyboard layout alone is enough of an argument to go with it.

I am new to cingular(when this releases)but I was wondering what is the difference between the 8525 and the tytn besides the other camera

my brother just got a Treo 700p....WM5 and the Wizard/TyTn slide out keyboard is so much better IMO.

On that note, talk about small keyboards and my beoitching about them.
Check out the Samsung SGH-i600 http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5545.html
It's basically a Moto Q on steroids. Now if the 8525 and Samsung SGH-i600 were out today, I'd probably get the i600.... and deal with the tiny keyboard once again. I'm one of those people that would have bought the Q if it came out for Cingular.
The reason? No stinkin' touchscreen (=100% one handed.)
But since the i600 isn't even rumored for Cingular, there's no way I'm waiting for it. By the time it comes out (if it comes out) which may be early 2007, I could have owned the 8525 for a while. Who knows, maybe I'll get it too if it comes out and see if I like it more.

However, the i600 actually looks larger (but thinner) than MDA, which is about the same size at the 8525. I'm not sure if I'd like that.
I find myself comparing EVERYTHING to the TyTn/8525, which must mean it's simply the best.

I definately have to say this is all a matter of perspective. As someone who owns both the TyTN and Treo 700w there are definately advantages and disadvantages to both. I won't go into a long comparison here but.... if you are a heavy e-mail user, you will tend to favor the Treo due to the always available keyboard. It makes replying much faster.

If you are more of a pocket pc user then you will tend to favor the TyTN becuase of the larger screen and better processor. I for one will be getting one of the Treo's when they are released and I will post some comparison pics here next to the TyTN

Does that mean it gets released into the twilight zone or some weird 3rd dimension that opens between 12:00:59.99999 on September 30 and 12:01:00.00000 on 1 October?????

That might be the most precise "speculated" release date ever...

8525 and Trinity both to be released in the next 30 days. Tough call now that the Trinity does not have GPS. I prefer a smaller device without keyboard but I want Cingular's support. Getting support for my P120 was a nightmare.

Hey georgi, if you like post useless post, why can't I?

I am sure I know a little more about both devices and I will post as I like unless a mod asks me to do otherwise.

You have the Tytn, do you find the keyboard responsive enough? My biggest issue is with the device's keyboard sensitivity, among other things.

Posted by: efishta

Hmm just a question for you guys who have followed PDA prices when and after released - I bought an 8125 on ebay brand new for 350 but I find that I don't really need the keyboard and don't like the thickness of the device. Seeing the Trinity news, with the improved CPU speed and the lack of keyboard... 2 questions result. I'm talking about the unreleased Trinity:

You think any US cell company be carrying this phone in the near future (rumors and such)?

How much will these be going on eBay for at first and the proceeding months? (based on what other phones have cost)?

I just want a phone I can carry in my pocket damn it, hehe.

i dont think the jamin, last gen of trinity, was picked up by any carrier. i think your best bet will be ebay or a reseller. i think you will pay 500-600 for it

Yes the keyboard on the TyTN is very nice and responsive. They keys seem to have just the right amount of "feel" to them. I can bang out a pretty long e-mail with little effort.

That's torture on a Treo. I find it painful to even post more than a few sentences on here.

so what are the chances of this phone coming out within the next 5-6 weeks?

Posted by: NatG

I just got my brand-new Hermes from e-gadget. I excitedly took the Sim card out of my Cingular 8125 and put it into the Hermes. Guess what? No GPRS, no Edge, in fact no data at all. The telephone works fine and I connected to my home WiFi system and got a blistering 2 Mb per second down load as measured on PCPitstop. But no data over the cellular system at all.

I tried to copy the settings from my 8125 connections. I used the San Francisco access telephone number of +141524410125. I named the connection by ISP CSD. I selected "cellular line". I then put in WAP@CINGULAR.COM with CINGULAR1 as the password.

Nothing works. I get message saying "settings are wrong."

Help! Please help! Or I'll never be able to go to sleep tonight.

once I get GPRS solved, any other settings that I need to get to HSPDA?

many many thanks in advance.

It looks possible now, but ask again in two weeks or so and it could change (or not).

Posted by: aadadams

Cingular has all but eliminated CSD here, and that may be the case for you as well. You need to create a (GPRS, 3G) connection. Follow the instructions on the Cingular site for configuring GPRS on the 8125, and you will be fine.

In addition to what aadadams told you, you'll need a new 3G Orange SIM card... Stop by your local Cingular store, and they'll swap it for you at no charge in about 5 minutes...

From what I know, 750w doesn't support UMTS/HSDPA (850/1900). You might want to confirm this.

A launch date for the 8525?

Yeah.. The 12th was posted somewhere as a release date for the 8525.. Optimistic, but who knows anymore.. At least we have reached the first speculated date.. That can only mean we are that much closer..

I thought the 12th was the official announcement of the new Treos from Palm....

...Still, if it *IS* released on the 12th, boo-yeah!

Yeah.. It is also the Treo announcement.. I was looking for the link for that but cant find it now.. I could be getting my dates confused but I could have sworn I saw the 12th somewhere. Not sure why a tuesday though..

Probably do not want a major launch/announcement on September 11th.

Pulled this off a developer link somone posted earlier.... Only really important part is Q4 2006 at the bottom. Hopefully, the first part of Q4!!!!!

Cingular 8500/8525 print this

The Cingular 8500 & 8525 is a high-speed UMTS/HSDPA device that uses the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform. The browser handles xHTML and wCSS very well, and is considered an enhanced xHTML-capable device, similar to the Cingular 8100/8125. This device has a large 2.8" QVGA screen, a slide out full QWERTY keypad, and supports 802.11g WIFI and Bluetooth. The 8525 has a 2 Mega Pixel Camera with Fix Lens/Camcorder and Flash. The 8500 has no camera.

This device is certified by Cingular for use over the GSM™/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA networks.

Am I the only one that clicked on his link and saw at the bottom a version of the Samsung I600 due for release in Q3 2006. That thing is awesome.

What do you mean? It is not a GSM only device.

For anyone thinking the 8525 will be released next week, it wont. You'll have to wait a few weeks at the least.

Looks like the subject for another thread.

Wonder if it would have all it's features or not. Looks very big (but thin and Samsung seems to REALLY like thin these days).

Posted by: pidrissi

Does anyone know if the new beta 2.1 Skype Mobile app. supports video calling for the Hermes/TyTN? I can't seem to find an answer on the Skype website.

Also, has anyone been able to use the video calling feature on the TyTN in the US on any network? It appears that Cingular is not going to "support" this feature but I am still unclear as to what that means. Is it just that they are not making the camera option available on the 8525? Isn't video just streaming data running on 3G? I am not a highly technical person so please forgive my ignorance in advance.

Thanks,

Posted by: smokeyb111

I think video calling is something that is co-dependent on the server end. From what I've heard Cingular doesn't have the software or hardware to support this feature....

Good to note though that the 3G phones (non-pda type) have forward facing cameras....or the ability to swivel forward. So Video calling is there on the consumer end. I'd think that if Cingular was smart they'd enable the feature.

Eventually.

Helper-I agree on the thin part (it also is tall). I will try and start a thread to see if anyone in the Cingular world has heard about this. When I clicked on the posted link and found that information on the bottom I had remembered seeing the device elsewhere. If the I600 has WIFI & HSDPA & Window's 5.0 it will give the Treo and the Q a run. Also, thanks for the all the info on the 8525. I cannot wait, even if it's October!

If it can give the Treo a run, I will be looking forward to it's arrival, that is for sure.

No Cingular video calling currently.
The Hermes does not have a front camera as we have all seen.
Video calling is not a simple data stream, well even if it is, it is a lot more complicated than you know and I am not going to go into a lot of what would be required to have it work properly. How would you make the call? You aren't going to pull up a person in your contacts list and hit video call and get them on the other end if the carrier does not support it. That is not to say video chat or something like that is not possible, but that is something very unlike a video call in many ways.

I've been reading quite a bit about the device on the XDA developers site and it seems as if there are some issues with the device. Are we experiencing the same problems with those using it here? So far this is the only device that has tempted me in some time. OH, and thanks for the welcome. :-)

Well regardless of if it is a Tytn or a Hermes100, it is not what CIngular will be releasing. I know that much for sure.

Decisions decisions.

I really like the new treo coming out, but if the 8525 comes out first I may get it as I need it for an upcoming business trip. I have never needed a PDA before, but now that I need constant access to e-mail and the internet (Writer/Photographer for the Automotive Industry), I can do everything I can at the computer from my phone.

Here is the topic on the XDA Developers site that I have been following. I've spent a little time reading through all this. I am really itching for this device so I'm curious to see if those who are using the TyTN or another variant in the US are experiencing some of these issues.

XDA Forums TyTN Problems Forum

Some of the issues are:

Screen Alignment
Unresponsive Keyboard keys
Video and bluetooth radio conflicts
Keyboard not always locking on both sides

It's a good site to follow if you want to keep an eye on things. I've read through all 48 pages of this post so I am sure this site has been linked to previously.

I find the keyboard to be too insensitive. I don't know if that is what you are refering to or not. It's bad enough that I can't use it as my main device. Also the softkeyboard kind of pops up alot when I don't need it.

No alignment issues seen

Don't know what the last issue listed means.

I have a feeling that all these issues will be addressed in the 8525.. At least I would hope so.. I think there should be some reason why we dont have this thing in our pockets yet. The only issue I can see them overlooking up there is the keyboard not fully extending on both sides but I would think that would be corrected too..

you were talking about the 8525 right?? if so, i have a question, do the softkeys light up? like the ok key, start menu key etc.?

I know this is off the subject but does anyone know where I can find a TyTNat a cheap price? I am sure the price has went down somewhere and ebay is offering the same prices I find on the net.
Also, I see a new phone is out on the market for Cingular customers with a Intel® PXA270 Processor 416 MHz. It's a HP though but better then the iPAQ hw6515 Cingular. The sytle looks the same but it's an upgrade from the 6515. I think you get WiFi now or something like that but it's to bulky.

Guys, there is one litte ANNOYING thing stopping me from absolutely LOVING my TyTN!

I have the German BB Connect installed, I have push email working through the HARD CODED blackberry.net APN that came with the BB Connect software, through Cingular using Unlimited Blackberry (which comes with unlimited wap.cingular, by the way -- I triple checked, have gotten bills -- it's good.)

HOWEVER: To do internet (IM, skype, slingplayer, etc.), the TyTN has to DISCONNECT from blackberry.net, CONNECT to wap.cingular, and then I get nice 3G speeds, no problem, EXCEPT PUSH EMAIL IS NOW INACTIVE!

Here are my issues:
1) WM5 was SUPPOSED to handle multiple simultaneous APN's for just this reason!
and
2) Why can't I seem to find a proxy and port that, using blackberry.net, WAP and HTML data can go through?? Someone here has to know at least a guess to what those settings might be...all you smart people around here...

Thanks ya'll -- great forum, great technology. With one little last thing here, I can DITCH MY COMPANY BLACKBERRY AFTER 4 YEARS OF TRYING TO GET AROUND BEING FORCED TO USE A CRAPPY AND INFERIOR DEVICE!

Greg

There is a light sensor on the upper right of the keyboard. If it is dark enough and you press a key the keyboard will light up.

So my TyTN arrived on 8/23 from Expansys US (Mobile Planet). It has a serial # of HT630XXXXX
so no alignment issues. I noticed that the keyboard had a "break-in" period where some of the keys needed to be used several times before they began to register consistently. I do not have any issues with the soft-keyboard popping up when the hard keyboard is depolyed except when I have started typing with the soft keyboard first. Then it needs to be shut off manually. I have had not bluetooth or wireless confilcts or issues. I am supporting two different headset profiles (Jabra and Moto.) as well as frequently toggling between two different wireless networks (one Belkin-G or pre-N and the second an older Netgear-B).

I can't get my push email to work but that's because the IT guy at my job is, well, a moron and I can't confirm if our Exchange server has ActiveSync support or not.

And, of course, since Cingular will not support video calling, I have not been able to use that feature...oh well!

Overall I am very pleased with the device. I skipped the 8125 because my i-mate Jam had a faster processor and better battery life. I think once the Cingular variant hits the market, things will get easier for TyTN users on the Cingular network.

Any guesses on when the 8525 will hit the premeire?

Posted by: helpermonkey

Some time after it has passed field testing.

I NEVER post things I hear from my local cingular store rep, but I went in today to look at what my wife could get...(she needs a new phone....)

Anyhow she's been eyeing a treo anyway, and I had mentioned the 'upgrade to the phone I have" (8125) and the rep said it'll be out the end of the month.

Now here's why you should take this with a grain of salt,

The rep guy, is a WEIRDO. I would never effectively be able to convey how weird he is. LOL But I've conversed about release dates with this guy before, and if he dont' know, he would say "I don't know"

What can I say, I trust the weird guy's honesty. I'm just waitin for it to release. That's all.

Posted by: helpermonkey

Well all I can say with certainty is that if a phone is still in field trials it can not have a concrete release date, merely a target which may as well be one of 20 possible desired targets (if it is done by date a we release on this day, done by date b we release on this day etc.).

Posted by: RF9

Let me ask you this, Helpermonkey. How long has it been in testing, and how long does a phone typically go through testing before it's released. Once a release is decided, how long before it's actually for sale?

Oh wow, you are asking for a deliberately vague answer aren't you? Well A phone goes through testing for as long as it has to, some seem very fast, maybe a few months, some, as forum users well know, take very long (think Nokia 9300 or Motorola V3i (6-9 months). As for the approval to sale time difference, I can not say I even pay any attention to that, but anyone on the forums long enough should be able to figure it out from watching the thread titles change from testing to approved, to when it is in stores. That also seems to vary hugely. I have seen phones sit approved for what seems like a long time (maybe over a month or two - just a guess) and others seem to hit the stores really quickly. I am sure there are marketing / supply answers for all of the delays between approval and sale.

As for how long the device in question has been in testing, I won't say more than it has been in for several months.

Posted by: RF9

Thanks you totally answered my question. I didn't know it had been in testing for several months, I thought it was a lot less than that. So it's possible it could be released at the very end of the month, especially since testing is going well. But it's just as likely we won't see it until December. LOL.

You can make yourself crazy waiting for a carrier-released phone. I waited over six months for the 6925 before I gave up and bought a TyTN... Best move I've made phonewise yet!

If you go unlocked, you'll pay full-price, but you'll always have what you want, and you can always upgrade/sell at your convenience...

Ain't that the truth. Well not this time. But normally I'd just do that.
I'm not going unlocked. Especially not with the crazy high prices of the TyTn riht now (to import one.). It might be different if it was a reasonable price.
I paid $700 for my Treo 600 unlocked, $600 for the Treo 650 unlocked (thanks to a $100 pricing error on day 1 of sale.)
But my contract is up now and I'm going to wait and use my discount this time. Furthermore, I'd rather NOT pay $100 or more extra for unlocked, when I have no need for it to be unlocked. I can just eventually get the unlock code from Cingular if needed anyway.
Lastly, and I know you'll think I'm nuts, but I believe I'll prefer the minor changes (/improvements? hope) to the 8525 than the TyTn. Also I won't have to deal with the headaches of getting the TyTn to work on Cingular HSDPA.
All said and done, IF I get the 8525. I haven't decided now that I know the Samsung i607 is coming. I'll probably end up buying more than one phone in the next year and wasting my money on full price phones. BAH.

I love your way of thinking. Weird, honest guy > trustworthy than seemingly normal, "too smart for his own good" guy. .........exactly

I am ready for the 8525!! I got a cool 30% discount from my cousin who works at cingular as a CS Rep. I hopt it comes out this month already. My ipod is having issues again, so to fix it with the warranty Best Buy takes like 2 weeks and I sold my w800, so i am stuck using my PSP as my music player. That thing is very clunky to use as an mp3 player.

I hope to be able to use the 8525 as my all in one device.I will get a 2gb SD Micro (if available)and bluetooth headphones.
With A2DP i am in heaven.....

PLus at work i have a blackberry with the $49.99 unlimited data plan and the 900minutes, unlimited nights and weekends+M2M plan. One of the guys had a pocket pc and he used the sim and he said everything worked fine when he went on line.

Dude, just scroll up about 6-8 posts. You'll see there is none, just speculation.

Posted by: CLS_500

i heard speculation is this month...

Ok, I know this is an odd first post, but.....

I saw this on the Brighthand forum and thought it may be of intrest to all the others who are anxiously awaiting the 8525 like me.

"I just looked at print out from my local Cingular store with the manager that show the 3125 being released 9/8/2006 and the 8525 being released 9/15/2006 but he said that sometimes they don't arrive in the store on that given date. What I was looking at was an invoice of shipping product and neither one was on backorder."

This will be my first PDA phone and I am very much looking forward to getting it as you all are. The thing I think will be really cool is using it in conjunction with a GPS. I was a little dismayed that the only option is a BT or some other solution not a part of the phone itself. I suppose I thought that there was maybe some GPS card that could be inserted to the phone itself. (like I said I am new to this arena)

Looking for feedback from people who have used a PDA and BT GPS combo. Is this cumbersome? Do you find you leave the GPS unit in the console or glove box of your car? If so does the PDA automatically sense it when you get in your car?

Thanks
Patrick

The BT GPS units have to be turned on tobe sensed by the PDA. I do not find it cumbersome. I tried an all in one solution (6515) but came back (Wizard then and now TyTN).

His information is not that reliable, so I wouldn't count on it.
He may be right that the 8525 is not backordered, it is not even approved for sale yet though.

I am really disappointed at cingular for taking off the second VGA camera. Why do that when you leave the functionality and sell phones which will have that feature availible. This is just stupid, and a way for them for them to come out with a 8525i with video camera. Absolute crap

Why offer a feature that they cannot support at this time? It makes no sense for them.

Posted by: RF9

I'm sure it's cost. Removing that camera is probably a $12 savings to the BOM which translates to millions of dollars of profit margin. Also, if you kept it in there, you'd have people whining about Cingular shipping a phone with a hardware feature that they don't intend to support.

None the less, it was a piece of data that I did not see anywhere else in this 51 page thread

Personally, I'm just hoping by the end of the month.... I really want a phone in the form factor of the 2125, however.... want wifi and hsdpa. Since the 8525 is closer to release than a 2125 look alike is (NOT considering the "star trek/3125").... guess I'll get that. What I would really like is an HTC Oxygen...

They shouldn't sell it as a Tytn, although it not like Verizon's "bluetooth" enabled phone it just seems plane stupid

Buuuuut....
The AREN'T selling it as the TyTn. They're customizing it to sell it as their own product, just so they can do things like... remove the camera.

.......Not to mention I thought this was actually a Hermes.......

I don't think this phone will be released this year. I can put money on it.

My uncle works for Cingular's Management department as a sells rep and said the phone is too powerful for the Cingular network @ this moment. And that he'd bet me money it won't be ready for 2006 but as they're ironing out the kinks now it should be ready in 2007 (obviously).

Original rumors said, the last quarter of the year. But the new rumors and what people should really be banking on is the 1st (and possibly 2nd quarter) for this phone ...

My hopes are officially down...

For the people @ T-Mobile the MDA II will have the VGA camera, as to their network will be supporting this. Cingular needs to step it up in their mobile department. We all know about their phone towers. But what about HSDPA and their digital net area?

Posted by: aadadams

Yeah, Cingular's policy against powerful phones should hold it up until Q1 or Q2.

Posted by: benfica88

So is there any real release date? Ive heard everything from september, november/december to even next year?

Posted by: mbn

Anyone see that Cingular announced the Nokia E62 this morning? The informed world is waiting for the new Treo and/or the 8525 and Cingular decides to push a new Nokia device??? If the 8525 doesn't drop into the market on 9/15 (as rumored), I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy the 8125 as a stop-gap measure b/c the Treo 650 is a POS, and I'm not talking about the Palm operating system.

Does anyone know if I bought a tytn instead of the 8125 would the Goodlink email software work on it? My company only uses Goodlink for push email. Is anyone using Good on a tytn? Are there any issues?

Thanks

I'll take this bet.. All the hard rumors are not pointing to Q4 at all.. We have continually seen and heard Q3 as the launch. We have seen Q3 on the developer site, "September" on the product sheet and keep hearing chatter from others on the site that points to the release being close (First post of the last page). I'm not saying that we are going to see it this month but Cingular obviously does not think the device is "too powerful" for the network or else these dates would have never been printed.. I would take that bet in a second and I'm not much of a betting man. I guess we will just have to wait and see..

For goodness sakes people... if the last guy that made a post asking for a release date didn't get anythimg more than speculation, what makes you think that your post asking for the same thing will get anything different barely a day later?

Posted by: RF9

Over in the PPC forum, check out this thread:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=999088
He did some snooping around and concluded that Cingular is stocking the 8525 for eventual release. But it obviously isn't for sale yet.
I don't know if this means much. If I recall the were stocking the 8125 and it still took a few months for them to release it.
I just hope this points to a sooner vs. later release.

As for anyone expecing a September 15th date, or Sept 12th date, where did you hear that? I've been following this way to closely. Sept 12th is a Palm announcement for the Vodafone Treo 750W, not a Cingular announcement.
And Sept 15th? I think someone just made that up.

Hold your horses and be prepared for at least another month.

This is beginning to remind me of the chocolate ice cream story.

Clerk: Can I help you?
Lady: I'd like a gallon of chocolate ice cream, please.
Clerk: Sorry, we're out of chocolate ice cream.
Lady: OK. I'd like a half-gallon of chocolate ice cream.
Clerk: I'm sorry, we're all out of chocolate ice cream.
Lady: Oh, OK. I'll take a quart of chocolate ice cream.
Clerk: Lady, we are out of chocolate ice cream.
Lady: Oh. Well, then I guess I'll take a cup with a single scoop of chocolate ice cream.
The clerk grabs a napkin, writes the word "chocolate" on it and hands the lady the napkin.
Clerk: Lady,
