how long does it take to refresh your rss feeds on 3g?? And is the size of the tytn handleable? The 8125 doesnt have the aesthetics and shape... it just is fat... is the tytn/8525 better??

Ladies and Gentlemen.
I have some bad news for you all.
I just got off the phone with my friend in high places at Cingular.
He called me from Atlanta where he has been meeting with the upper eschelons of our favorite phone company and he has some bad news regarding the 8525.
He tells me that the phone will not "go commercial" as he called it until late November/early December.
He didn't know the specific details of the delay (as I suspected), but he was pretty damn emphatic that it was not to "go commercial" until Nov/Dec.
What he did say is the the "Blackjack" will hit the stores before the 8525.
Keep in mind that I am posting this update before I even googled "blackjack" I can only assume it's the Samsung i607?
Anyway, he says that one will "go commercial" in November.
Knowing how disappointed I was, he promised to let me know if the dates pulled in.
I'm sorry to break the bad news, but I owe it to the thread. I'm just as wrapped up in this as you are.
Not to add insult to injury, but he did tell me he could possibly get me a demo unit in the meantime, however.
If I get that, I will post pics and a review.
Sorry again.

This goes along with the problem with HSDPA and my brother-in-law's friend saying Dec.

Posted by: brainiac978

If the release date is in fact the 24th, I started my contract on 9/16 with an 8125. I wouldn't mind upgrading, I just wonder if there is any way I could upgrade without having to pay the full price? I know it would mean a new contract but the one I have isn't even 30 days old yet?

Which will then push to Jan of 2007..then Feb...

Sounds like the 8125 last year when all of us were on this very forum expecting an Oct 2005 release and it ended up being like Feb/Mar of this year instead! Here we go again!

And this news is even before your Sunday's meeting with someone higher up in Cingular ...

I am start to lean towards the TyTN now .. with the CoolCamera beta released that supports the front camera ..

Posted by: Omega2008

LOL......I have long saved my self the eagarness of awaiting new devices. When one of my many contacts at Cingular call and let me know that the device is on Premier, thats when I get it. I don't stress myself anymore. You guys shouldn't either.

Pick up a TyTn, you won't be sorry I am actually really enjoying my device and I am sure you can pick one up on ebay or in the PPC buy/Sell forums here

Posted by: RF9

Whatever..... I'm kind of pissed. WTF. What is Cingular's major malfunction?
I just so didn't want to blow unnecessary money on an unlocked PDA... AGAIN ($700 for the Treo 600, $700 for the Treo 650.) But I can't wait until December.... *IF* it'll even come out by then.
I've thought about getting a $200 refurb 8125 or a 3125 to hold me over til the 8525, but if I do that then I end up spending just as much and am better off just getting the TyTn outright. At least then I'd have 3G which is half the reason for this.
So really? No problems so far with the TyTn?
I have to think this through (my options.)
Considering:
3125 now + 8525 later = Have both for different occasions
8125 now, 8525 to replace it later = 8125 becomes a door stop (no 3G in mean time)
TyTn now, hope I don't later wish I waited.

All Biothcing aside. At least we have the option of getting unlocked phones. At least we aren't held hostage to what the phone company releases to us. This is after all one reason we're with Cingular isn't it?

****!!!

In all honesty I have had ZERO issue with my TyTn. I am currently using the HTC 1.18 rom with the Cingular 1.16 Radio Stack. I was in Austin over the weekend and Seattle the week before that and I had flawless switching between Edge and UTMS and I have not had the screen allignment issues that others have had on earlier models.

I have to admit, it is nice having a phone where I can do rom updates, etc (The Treo 700w didn't have that ability due to Palm locking the rom down). And it is nice having a device on XDA where almost any issue can be solved there

I just did a quick scan of EBay and there are a ton of TyTn for sale including some "B" stock for $650. Not too bad

That's why I'm eagerly awaiting this phone so I can switch from Sprint and I can enjoy importing all these cool phones that will never be offered in CDMA versions...

Did a nonchalant speed test on the TyTn today in Chicago at Borders as I am want to do each day at 2wire.com.
4
bars w/U of course, usually yields 800plus kbps...........
Today.......triple checked at 1080kbps!! (not sure why that wouldn't have read 1.08Mbps).
But surely, data was flying!
Btw, there's no way this device would be worth it without the processor power and 3G network.
Check the availability in your area..especialyy the density... 3G varies with each block your in.....even in the city of Chicago.
Gprs speed is VERY average....EVDO kicks its butt.

Posted by: KlamshellKing

is there a noticable difference when like updating RSS feeds?? And any problems with the tytn??

Posted by: tremcotexas

Like most of tytn owners I am glad I made the move early (I wish I had done it a month ago) as I am typing this while tethered to blue tooth via the jasjam on UMTS in a cheap *** hotel room in San Antonio.... Don't wait.. Remember the 8125 and how many pushed release dates it had!! Join the "Hermes Club" .. You will be glad you did!

Posted by: KlamshellKing

yea i probably will... i have too much extra money sitting around... the question is do i keep or sell the 3125???

Posted by: wizard8125

This is a little off topic, but I am about to get the tytn since 8525 seems to be dragging her feet. Cingular doesn't have philadelphia, pa posted as part of their 3g network. However, two individuals on an unofficial website say they have used 3g in philly. Can anyone possibly confirm this before I put a hole in my pocket. Another groupie of our (in)famous Tytn/8525

Ask around in the Cingular main forum .. someone will surely know ..

Posted by: Omega2008

Blah I can wait...besides it will be much cheeper on Premier when it drops for me than buying a TyTN. I am contempt with my 3125 and 8125.

Seems that way ... $650-700 .. you might something a lil cheaper on ebay tho .. dont know for sure ..

Posted by: ManOfGod

Whoa! I step out for a few hours and almost 50 posts! For a split second I thought the 8525 was released!

What a letdown.

I am seriously considering getting a refurb 8125 on Cingular.com for $199 and wait a year for the HTC Herald or Libra. 3G isn't a major feature for me. The biggest loss for me would be the scroll wheel and the 'ok' and 'start' buttons. I think I can live with all else considering I am coming from a candy bar Nokia.

My budget has a lot less liberty than it once did. The TyTN is too rich for me, even if it was $600. Am I missing anything?

No, No, this is the same person. I only know one person inside Cingular. He just finally got back to me since I left a few messages. Not the response I was hoping for.
Looks like that Blackjack thing is definitely the Sammy i607 Moto Q copy.
I'll be passing on that smartphone.
Well, once again, sorry for the bad news boys and girls.

Posted by: maevro

Wow, if I didn't get my e62 I would still be going through what all of you are going through right now.

Listen...Everyone who knew someone said "Beginning Oct". Now its 30 days more. What happens in 30 days more? My buddy told me beginning of next year and that is looking more and more accurate everyday.

The Samsung i607 "Blackjack" just got FCC approval according to Gizmodo and will be out soon. Has the 8525 even got FCC approval yet?

You should call and see if you can get a bulk rate on the TyTN for everyone here, hehe. OR you can buy a TyTN and sell it when the 8525 comes out...sometime next year.

The Tytn is a great phone, there is a bit of a slider issue, as it does get a little loose over time. But I've found a way to fix that, now its tighter than how I got it new!!!

Just a reminder for those of us getting impatient.

Apparently some selected models of HTC TyTN have problems... so if you are pondering to buy one of those Pocket PC phones, you must read it:

Apparently there are problems with screen alignment:

Screen alignment is a big problem here in Taiwan, since HTC with CHT (Chung Hwa Telecom) launched the Dopod CHT 9000 at the beginning of July. After almost one month, HTC and CHT eventually admitted that there is an issue on the touch screen alignment, and everyone can change to a new one in a month of your purchasing, if you got this problem.

HTC and CHT started to release a new version we called "little green spot" version at the end of July. Look at the picture and you'll know what I mean.

This problem is probably nothing to do with "USP to PC", micro SD card, software, keyboard, WM5, etc. It is just as simple as a hardware problem of the right side "rubber gasket" between the frame and touch screen, which is a little bit thicker and create extra pressure on the screen then make it crazy. And of course the temperature of the battery during charging would make it worse (you know the physics). HTC never gives their own story. This is what I heard from some tech guys.

[...]

And we also found devices with S/N after HT630XXXXX.... would be better. Since we believe they are the "real new ones", and S/N before that, just "rework" ones. The firs bunch of "guinea pigs" in Taiwan got S/N HT624 & HT625, which might have serious alignment problem. Then HTC started to release the "little green spot" version, which has S/N HT630, for changing. As far as I know there is still no complaint from HT630 on this issue.

To learn more click here - if you are planning to purchase HTC Hermes we recommend you to read posts there carefully.

Please note: people are also complaining about other problems with HTC TyTN, including problems with establishing UMTS connections and also problems with achieving real HSDPA transfer speeds (up to 1.8 megabit/second theoretically, although practically 1.6 megabit/second is achievable) where people managed to achieve only 400 kbps (instead of expected 1.6 megabit/s)... Since HTC Hermes ( HTC TyTN is a HTC branded version of this phone) is a very sophisticated phone, including latest technologies like dual band UMTS and HSDPA (fast version of UMTS with faster download speeds), we recommend you to purchase this phone rather through your mobile operator (wireless carrier) - i.e. operator, that also provides SIM card and network coverage - so that your phone will be fine tuned to the network and properly tested! If you purchase HTC Hermes from an online distributor or from another operator that you use, the likelihood that you will have UMTS and HSDPA problems is much higher...

....clip...

Do tell..... I just XBM'ed my device (the keys were acting funny...and the vibrate feature was dying) and I KNOW my slider will become loose over time...How did you tighten yours up?

Posted by: NatG

After everything is said and done, I spent about $900 buying a TyTN and with a 2 GB expansion card. I just wish it worked. The promise of a 3G device that offers high-speed access, WiFi, and and expanded internal memory space is seductive as hell.

But, the thing is buggy. Many applications that are important to my daily life do not run. Audible.com, on which I received the Wall Street Journal on a daily basis, causes the device to either crash or hang. SBP utilities – which work fine on the Cingular 8125 – hang or crash the device.. The screen alignment drifts requiring at least two re-alignments per day. Ridiculous. This is just way too buggy for prime time.

The HTC folks need to understand that they cannot release a piece of junk ROM to the public.

All of you who are looking forward to the Cingular 8525, better pray that Cingular has done a decent job of fixing the buggy ROM before releasing a product in their name. You better pray they have fixed this buggy ROM and made it work properly. Or, you – as I – we’ll be spending dozens of hours trying to fix the inadequacies of HTC ROM.

So I wanted to pass it on.
Many who have been following these threads prolly already knew about it.

It was a quick fix and pretty simple actually. Basically took a thin flat-head screwdriver, and bent the sliders in slightly near the ends. Doing this requires great care, as to not damage the unit. If you are trying it you'll see that the sliders are pretty stiff, so it will keep its shape over time. When done right its actually firmer than when its open (which is pretty solid already).

Sorry you feel that way dude, I've had no problems with mine, here and there it will need a reboot (couple times a month), but hey that's what you get for going Microsoft. Alignment with mine has been spot on, no crashes at all. I also use SPB, and it works fine, no crashing or hanging.

Posted by: Prometheus2k2

Look we all know pre carrier releases are buggy.

Let's take the RAZR for example. RAZR was basically released straight to Cingular Without beta testing. Everyone knows how many problems that thing had. If the price point didn't come out so high Cingular wouldv'e tanked just on the XBM's. That thing had so many bugs in it, that to this day all most people at retail do is hate on that phone.

Beta Testing is important, and I know for sure that phone manufacturers would rather skip beta and put it straight to market to get product out faster. It's just not cost effective. I needa get on some list to test phones man...

I hope the 8525 is polished a little bit, but I'm expecting problems with the first couple of batches. I pretty much expect problems with launch batches no matter what (see RAZR, Treo, 8125, and samsung zx10 to name a few). I'd rather wait 3 months more than have them launch an 8525 with bugs like the first 8125's and Razr's.

One Love,
Prom

Lets face the truth, this phone most likely wont even come out this year. Cingular is playing the oldest trick in the book. great marketing at work! Think about it, lets assume the realse is dec/jan how many people would just get a tytn right now? If Cingular let out a release of december from the get go most of us would have had a tytn by now. But by cingular letting out all these little leaks, photos and getting people to post incremental dates, they keep us hooked on a little string. For all of those waiting, i feel there as a lot more to wait.

Philly does have 3G. I lost my 6682 and picked up an LGCU500 to hold me over, until the 8525 or a better 3G device comes out. (Better than the LG I mean). Anyway, I have 3G from work to home with almost no switch to EDGE and the switches have been seamless. If that is your only concern, go get yourself your TYTN

Have you figured out the footprint yet? I live in Lafayette Hill and work in Blue Bell. Any idea if it extends out to there? Right now I am on Sprint, but will be converting over to Cingular when the 8525 comes out.

If you get a TYTN off of ebay, how do you know if it is a later release or not?

serial #s primarily .. earlier were like HT625XXX .. HT626XXX .. etc

latest ones are like HT635XXX ... check out more info on the wiki at the same site.

lol yes i am actually member here. You might remember the treo 670 (700) leaks last august 2005.

There is no way the device will come out next year. None

In the post on engadget I said 30 or so days. Its not possible that the device gets released before that time frame. November (seeing today is the fifth) is pretty plausable.

FYI the keys feel better than my tytn.

Posted by: RF9

So then, what are you guys going to do?
You going to just give in and get a TyTn for $700?
Or wait for the 8525 no matter how long it takes?
After all, it's only about 2 months away according to this higher up. I can believe with some optomism it will be here by Dec.

I'm considering just getting a refurb 8125 for $100 after rebate (to replace my Treo 650) and try to make do with that until the 8525 comes out. After rebate I'll end up spending $500 on the two (I hope.)
On the other hand, If I'm going to do that why don't I just pony up $200 more and be done with it? But it's not just about the cost, it's about other quality issues (I think I'd rather have the 8525 than the TyTn.)

Posted by: gravejoker

I dont think I am worried about the price really .. at this price point .. a couple of 100 dollars .. well .. dont mean much .. but I am more worried about the screen misalignment ..

These delays are causing me to rip my hair off ... and the wife getting really angry .. so I might just take a chance and get a TyTN .. now with apps showing up that support the front camera .. might just be worth it ..

Posted by: berdinkerdickle

I think the benifit of going with the tytn now, is you know what your getting.
The 8525 is't out, and when it is out, is it going to crippled in any way? What bugs will it have? How long until a fix for whatever bugs?

I know, it's a tough decision.
I still can't make up my mind.

Posted by: charlie8525

What do you guys think about the SPV M3100 it looks just like the 8525? I like that look much better than the Tytn and it also has the front camera (not that it is that important to me). Has anybody heard of any issues with the SPV M3100? Im thinking of getting one of those and forget about waiting.

Also Philly has the Free WIFI up and running in abou 4 test areas
I download the map will post it when I find it. But I think its the tourist areas like Love park etc.

hey PCman, like jglev I'm curious if you know how far west the coverage zone is in philly? I live in Manayunk and work in Paoli, so having the ability to use the 3G there would be great, especially for getting unrestricted internet access while at work.

Posted by: CES1951

According to my research, there are about a dozen TyTN variants out there. Have a look at:

http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=se...de=0&exp=hermes

PDADB identifies the following:

SoftBank X01HT (HTC Hermes 200)
Qtek 9600 (HTC Hermes 100)
Orange SPV M3100 (HTC Hermes 100)
I-Mate JASJAM (HTC Hermes 100)
Vodafone v1605 (HTC Hermes 200)
T-Mobile MDA Vario II (HTC Hermes 300)
Dopod 838 Pro (HTC Hermes 100)
NTT DoCoMo hTc Z (HTC Hermes 100)
O2 XDA trion (HTC Hermes 100)
Dopod CHT 9000 (HTC Hermes 200)
HTC TyTN (HTC Hermes 200)
Cingular 8525 (HTC Hermes)

Considering some of the problems some folks are reporting, for those of us who may not be willing to wait for the 8525, it might be useful if people using unlocked non-Cingular TyTNs could identify the exact model they're using. This will help those of us who haven't bought yet to avoid some pitfalls when we do. Thanks!

Check out the xda-developers.com TyTN sub-forum .. There is a sticky thread on TyTN screen misalignment issues ..

I live in Norristown and Work in Norristown. I have full 3G coverage at my house. We have been turning up 3G sites almost non-stop the last couple weeks and will continue to do so. So if you live in an area around Philly with no coverage today, check tomorrow because you may just get a nice surprise when you wake up in the morning .

B-Stock is basically a refurbished or returned item that still works.

"B Stock" typically means "Refurb" as far as I know.

Posted by: USCMeche

I love the price of the auction, but I don't know if I trust a "b-stock" item.

Notify the seller and tell him that we have 4 buyers on board so far. And ask him what kind of deal he would be willing to give us, based on how many we can get on board.

Have you figured out the footprint yet? I live in Lafayette Hill and work in Blue Bell. Any idea if it extends out to there? Right now I am on Sprint, but will be converting over to Cingular when the 8525 comes out.

I work in King of Prussia and live in Flourtown. I have it both at work (obviously the Regional and local office are there) all the way along 276 to when I get home and still have it there. I agree with the previous poster too who said it is getting better every day.

Back on topic.......I stopped at a store today and they knew nothing of any 3G phones, let alone the 8525. I love how it is a crapshoot as to what info you get.

I'd check the serial numbers on those "B-Stock" units before I'd buy. I know this seller (I think I purchased a case for my JAM from them once) and I don't remember any issues with them. But you don't want to buy a TyTN with a serial number lower than 630XXX!

Caveat Emptor!

Posted by: gothaggis

on another forum that I read (gaming), someone was asking about the this phone. one of hte other posters works for cingular and asked his regional manager when it was coming out - late october was the answer.

Posted by: RF9

If the "higher ups" recently decided to push it back to Nov/Dec, it's likely that information hasn't filtered down to management and below yet to those that still think the Oct release is going to happen. In other words it might be outdated info.
I remain very cautiously optimistic that we'll see it this month, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Be prepared for an early December release. You're still going to hear Oct. from people that haven't been updated. Don't get me wrong, I WANT that to be true.

I gave up. I just ordered an 8125 refurb for $100 after rebate. I just need something with WM5 and this is dirt cheap (kind of a no brainer.) Even with getting the 8125, I still pay less for the two then getting a TyTn. It'll feed my crack addiction and quell my obsession for when this will be released. As long as I have the 8125, I can hold out a couple of months. It's certainly not the same and since it has WiFi I can deal with no 3G for a little while. I already have an HSDPA card for my laptop.
Also this is my first WM device, so the 8125 is going to be a novelty to me for some time anyhow. This way I get to figure out all of the apps and tweaks I'm going to put on my future 8525.

It was a tough decission. I was definatley on the fence between the $700 TyTn or a $100 8125 and wait for wto $400 8525 (after rebate prices.) Yes, two. One reason I'm waiting is because my wife thinks she wants one. We'll see after she test drives the 8125, she might want the Treo 750 instead.
My only reluctance to doing what I did was that I was afraid of blowing my upgrade on the 8125 and having to pay full price for the 8525. But as far as I can tell, premiere lets you upgrade whenever you want.

At least now I can obsessively check this forum from an 8125 instead of my darn Treo

Thanks for puting up with me and my posts.

Agreed, but fifty dollars is still fifty dollars; I was hoping the 8525 would come out and push the retail price lower, I guess I can forget about that.

He also siad if any problems or issues and he will repalce within 14 days.

Hey $100 is great, if it doesn't blow your free once-a-year upgrade.

Can anyone contact this seller? Do you think he would have more???

Posted by: cruiserman

I also noticed the B-Stock he is selling on Ebay. Another selling point (besides the $50) may be that you can get a 3 year warranty from SquareTrade if you get in on Ebay. It looks like it would cost around $75. Not a bad price (compaired to carrier insurance prices), but I don't have any experience with ST so I'm not sure if they are reputable. Anyone ever deal with them?

Since this is your first WM device be careful of any apps you buy for your 8125 with the expectation that they will work on your 8525 (or equivalent ). I have been using PocketPCs since day 1 and with each new version I seem to find one or two apps that will not work on a new device with a new processor. As I'm sure you know by now the 8125 has a much different processor than the one expected in the 8525. If you've been following the TyTN threads you probably already know of problem apps. Other sources for WM5 app info includes pocketpcmag.com, pocketpcthoughts.com and brighthand.com. You can also find WM5 app info at pocketpcgear.com and handango.

Good luck and enjoy your new toy.

Thanks for the tip. I'm well aware of SW incompatibility between devices. I've had this happen from Palm, to Treo 600, to Treo 650. I've been following the TyTn threads as you mentioned. But thanks for mentioning anyway. It sucks to fall in love with an app that you can't bring over to new device.
My day 1 apps will be pretty straightforward:
Cingular XPress Mail (for corp mail/calendar.), Yahoo To Go (for Syncing with yahoo,) Sling Player Mobile, Sirius and XM players, TCPMP, Palm Traffic (for WM5)... have a free sub. long story, Hitchiker (hope it works), Thunderhawk, Opera Mobile, Phone Alarm.
Set up live push with 4smartphone.net
Then I'll start tweaking the today screen with plugins, etc. I
There's also a program I'm trying to remember the name of. Don't know if it'll work on the 8125. It Changes settings based on what cel tower you're near.
Then some stock and weather programs. Then the fun begins.

Posted by: gravejoker

I started a thread about the apps that I am going to get for my TyTN/8525.

Posted by: 100thMonkey

Only five apps that I needed to buy: PocketInformant, POcketWeather, Verichat, Sprite backup, and ListPro

I bought SpaceRecliamer because its convenient, but there is alot of great freeware too

Don't need to, since the seller reads here as well. Those B Stock units are units which just got back from HTC. HTC replaced the Mainbord after screen problems. They are going fast, first comes, first serve.

The first batch is gone already.

Posted by: sfiorito

Well, I'm another long time lurker on these boards and I'm also another one having flash backs from last year with the 8125 (which I bought on the premier site when it was finally released).

But anyhow....one of my classmates works at a Cingular store and is a phone nut as the rest of us. He saw I had my 8125 with me in class last week so we started talking about the 8525. He said he'd ask his contact at corporate or whoever is responsible for getting them phones about it. Today he told me what we already heard from these boards. According to what he heard, the 8525 was being delayed because Cingular is releasing another smartphone ahead of it. My best guess would be either the i607 or the E62?

Posted by: Daniel Y

Another lurker here (we're all coming out of the wood works), with a very unsophisticated question. I am not comitted to Cingular nor Sprint, but here's the question. I plan to be a first time user of a WM5 device. If all I want is internet, email and a 1.3 mp camera on my WM5 phone, what do I lose if I get the Sprint 6700 versus waiting for the Cingular 8525. (Not interested in the 8125 because I believe the 6700 is a better unit.) The Sprint 6700 is a less expensive unit than the 8525, and Sprint's unlimited plan is less than Cingular's. The coverage in my area is about the same for the two service providers. (I also don't need the latest.) Thanks.

It is so on!

I am a 13 year Ma Bell, Ameritech, SBC, AT&T employee (who has been installing the UMTS T1 circuits to the towers for about a year or more) and after reviewing this entire thread for the last week. (I am so obsessed w/ this phone!) I went to check cingy to see if it has been listed, you know, as a fluke. And saw the thing where you find out if you get corporate discounts. I was trying to figure out what you guys meant by "Premier". Well now I know...

"...And knowing is half the battle! G.I. JOOOOOOEEEE!" -sorry every time I say "now I know" I am compelled to say that.

Working for the company that owns Cingular has finally paid dividends! I am so going to get my password tomorrow and pick up a cool new phone to tide me over till the mother load (8525) comes in.

Sorry for ranting, but after 99 pages of this crap, (" It'll be out tomorrow... No, not this tomorrow, tomorrow...No, not this tomorrow, next week...No not this next week, next week... and so on, and so on...) I had to purge a little.

Breathe in...

Breathe out...

...gooood...

In your auction it states that there are three b-stock tytns left, is that true?

Hopy C**P .... this thread just hit 100 pages ...

Posted by: brainiac978

Does anyone know if the 8525 will have a delay control for the backlit keyboard? While not a big thing, it does get annoying on the 8125 when you're in the middle of typing something in the dark (low light) and the light for the keys goes out lol.

Hey! I would have bought one of those 3 million 3G buggy devices.
I haven't regretted buying my buggy Treo 650. And over at TC with my 1200+ posts, You won't find me bad mouthing cing because of a buggy device.
I bad mouth Palm for it's stupid mini upgrades, And their DELAY in releasing a GSM treo.

I'll take it.
So Cingular, Release it.
I'll take it, bugs and all.

I just recieved an email back from a very strong source. On CSP, I logged in and found the Cingular 8525 on my pricing sheet. (BTW listed at 449.99 with a 100 rebate available) But at the end of the pricing sheet it gives you the email of the man who compiled the list. I went ahead and shot him an email claiming that I had multiple customers asking me about it, and he responded with a short but very important email:

I quote directly:
"October 29 you should begin to see it. Thanks."

Now, this is a fairly good answer, and its coming as a direct quote to pass along to customers, So Im guessing we wont have more than a month till this phone drops.

If it drops at that price, I might have to pick one up for the 3g, to tide me over until something better comes along, anyway. I presume $449 is the 2 year contract price..which would make the no contract price somewhere around $649...

Nobody knows the real specs yet .. whether it supports all the connectivity options that TyTHN has ...

Posted by: briansage

At that size, I'll bet it's the TI 200Mhz processor that's in the 81xx. I just did a quick google on "HTC Herald," and that seems to be the popular guess.

Don't get me wrong, that's a sweet form-factor, but my guess is that it's thinner for a reason. Personally, if it weren't for the 400Mhz in the TyTn/85xx, I'd have the 8125 already. The extra processor speed and battery makes a big difference on a PPC.

Posted by: skidpalace

There's always going to be something new coming down the pipeline. By the time the Herald is ready for prime time, it'll come out wearing an AT&T badge. Sorry, make that at&t .

Nice. But while we're waiting 12 months for cingular to release that one, I'll be enjoying my 8525 LOL>
The Herald sounds pretty sweet even if the ONLY improvement was the thinner form factor.

$600 for no-contract price according to the people who said they have the pricing info. It seems appropriate considering the unlocked TyTn is $700, and unlocked PDAs are typically $100 more.

Despite the fact that it had been common knowledge for almost a year, it was complete news to me when he said it would be at&t again in July.

Well you can all thank me Monday

I finally broke down and ordered an HTC Tytn and the way my life works that means that Cingular will release the 8525 on Monday. It always happens that way for me. Oh well - I just got sick of the wait.

Did I read that Cingular has taken not only the front camera off (that I know) but they've taken all the functions for it out of the phones rom? People using the cingular rom flashed to the Tytn - is there any real benifit to using Cingular's rom over the one in the Tytn (or upgrading to whatever HTC's current rom is)?

You da man!!! Finally we have a man amongst us .. This might be the right decision .. by the way where did you order from?

From what I have heard .. Cingular's ROM is much faster than the TyTN .. some bugs fixed etc .. They have also taken one of the buttons for PTT .. nobody seem to be able to reclaim it ..

Chalk up another source that says it will be released on the 29th.

Well we'll see - as I said - I tend to buy things and then the next day a new and improved version is released - in this case it makes me think the 8525 comes out monday hahaha. I got it off ebay - I was going to hold out like 2 more weeks and then buy it in Europe while I was there but looking at Dutch phone sites - it looks like the phones they have there are all T-Mobile which are locked so not only do I have to deal with getting it unlocked (plus that aweful purple tint that t-mobile adds to the phone). Plus the price of getting it now actually ended up being a few dollars cheaper - especially if I had to unlock it.

I ended up getting it now because it'll let me set the phone up now before I head over and means I don't have to bring and then lug a second phone around with me. Hopefully it's the right decision (I'm always a bit leary of ebay but this guy has a lot feedback and he's like 99.5% so hopefully it'll work out :S)

Just wondering...why would the phone drop on a Sunday?

Posted by: robothero

I am cursed as well, and theres no doubt in my mind that the phone will drop in a few weeks, as I am now the proud owner of a TyTN. Thanks to our good friend PhoneSourceUSA.

Yea, I got tired of waiting too. I bought a Tytn also; which probably means the 8525 will be available on Monday...Oh well, having fun with my $700 Tytn. Utms is so much better than edge....

If anybody is interested in getting one let me know I have a guy in the UK who has lots of them and at that price you can't go wrong. I will let you guys know when I get it...Hopefully early next week.

WOW! 575?! Are you sure he's not a scammer of some sort? Let me know if you get it and if it works. If so, i may be interested.

Posted by: sabesh

I've setup unlimited Medianet using wap.cinglargprs.com . I'm able to access push email and surf at HSDPA speeds. However, I cannot connect to either MSN or Yahoo messaging (I'm able to connect via WiFi with no problems using Agile Messenger or Pocket MSN). Do these require any special settings? Thanks for any help. Sabesh.

I Don't think he is, but i did pay with my AMEX so I can always dispute it if it is a scam. I'll keep you guys posted

I guess you saw the e-mail too.

Stupid question. Is the 8125 the only phone offered by Cingular that has wifi?

At the momet yes.

Another stupid question, whats the difference between the tytn and the 8525 besides the 2mp cam and the video conferencing cam?

Actually the only major diff is the front cam which is missing in the 8525. Other small things are diff front key layouts, some cingular customizations on the buttons (like the PTT button) etc.

Let's not downplay the significance of that PTT button GraveJoker. It's locked to a PTT function which some people may decide not to purchase a plan for. In fact, when it's released, pressing that button will only give you a dialog box that states the service isn't available yet.

What this means to WM5 enthusiasts is this: The 8500 series only has 4 programmable buttons vs. 5 available on the TyTN:

long time no see Sleuth .. over here at hofo ..

Thanks for elaborating on the PTT button thing .. One button less might be definitely big for some ...

Questions:
a. Can programs like AE Button Plus still be used to re-program this button or even that is not possible?
b. Dont remember right now .. which button was re-programmed as PTT button by Cingular?

edit: Found it. was just being lazy. It's the VoiceCommand button and it cant be re-mapped.

wow... i thought there were some more differences than what was mentioned...
Dangit... I guess I'll be patiently waiting too...

There are actually 6 programable buttons on the TyTn
Button 1 - Messaging
Button 2 - Internet Explorer
Button 3 - Comm Manager
Button 4 - Camera
Button 5 (Press & Hold) - Record (Not on Cingular Rom)
Button 5 - Voice Command (Not on Cingular Rom)

So you lose 1 physical button but the ability to assign 2 unique functions.

The Cingular E62 does NOT have WiFi. The unbranded E61 does...but that's not the phone Cingular is offering.

But if I'm wrong I'm wrong. I know I was waiting for this phone to come out, and I was told (and read) multiple times that there was NO WiFi and NO 3G for this phone. EDGE only.

I might have missed the point but all the buttons on the TyTn are programmable except the the on/off one.
'Button remap' or whatever app makes it 8 instead of 4....which to me is essential in one-handing the thing.
Btw......I finally got to voice tagging tons of contacts (never used that before.....with Treos you just type the first 2 letters and contacts opens up at the name)......
anyway, voicecall has got me over the one handed angst....works great!
For text of any significance I,d be using two thumbs on the treo anyway so the quick slide out is no big deal.
Windows calendar function is what's lacking compared to Palm.....
Finally, to the guy with medianet settings......why the wap vs the ispcingular ones?
vs

We were talking about the 8525 (not the TyTN) .. Cingular has converted the VoiceCommand button to the PTT button which doesnt work for now. You CAN NOT reclaim or reprogram this button ... as per the gurus ..

You essentially loose 2 functions .. one - press and second - press and hold .. as Mashie pointed out earlier ..

IMO this severly cripples the one handed use of the device ..

Hey Rockky.. what happened to the Treo 750v .. were you able to lay your hands on one?

Guys .. check this out .. interesting post on EngadgetMobile ..

The verbage of the press release certainly seems to line up nicely with intelligence we're getting, which suggests that the carrier's had a change of heart and intends to once again stock store shelves nationwide with its high-speed devices, possibly on or around November 1. Among those devices should be the lustworthy Hermes-based 8525 -- that is, if the stars are aligned correctly and Cingular's execs wake up on the right sides of their beds that morning.

Posted by: Rockky

regarding the treo750...there IS a guy who stocks about evry gsm phone out there.I got my TyTn like the day after HTC released it!
anyway....he said 3 weeks in a row he'd have unlocked vodafone 750's and kept having delays'... haven't checked back in a while.

Yea, I was waiting for the Nokia E62 as well. I was discouraged to see that wifi was stripped. I know carriers are cautious about putting this feature on their system, but it is a must have for me. It looks like I will be getting a refurb 8125 for $199. For that money I really cannot go wrong. In a about a year I can look at the HTC Libra or Herald as a potential upgrade. Who knows what else will be out there by then. The Nokia N95 is a real looker as well!

Posted by: inexco

I too have gotten tired of waiting for 8525 drop and have bid on a couple of TyTn's on Ebay. Not successful at the price I want to pay.

Please post your TyTn connection. I have decided that I don't need / want the keyboard. HTC Trinity is my current lust. Sources?

Posted by: gravejoker

without wifi or 3G is like going back to the stone ages ..

to be honest...there's NO going back to a device without a keyboard for me. I've been royally spoiled by the 8125, and theres no turning back. now when I scout these forums, endgadget/mobile, phonescoop and other websites, I wanna know what's coming out with a Keyboard. ESPECIALLY HTC devices.

I'm still waiting for HTC to release a 5G cellphone with a coffemaker and a blow up doll, all in the package small enough to fit in my shirt pocket!

Imagine....well be reading these forums and people will be shouting things like:

'i can't believe HTC released a device that does NOT do espresso......'

Posted by: goestoeleven

I'm so glad you didn't finish your comment with thoughts on the blow up doll...

I ordered my refurbed 8125 from premier last night (price dropped to $140), and they sent me a message stating they canceled my order because I recently upgraded within the last 24 hours or something? What gives? Can I try again or should I call the number and order that way?

Unfortunately, we cannot process your order because you have either upgraded your device/service in the last 24 hours or have upgraded your device/service more than 4 times within the last 12 months.

I don't get it. I just found out about the site and already I'm getting the boot?!? My upgrade is due in December, am I pushing it, or do you guys think it's okay?

I Just tried again, We'll see if they cancel it again, If they do, I'll try and call to find out what's going on.

I would call them monday morning. My upgrade is due at the end of this year and my online order went through so far without a hitch. I should have my new (refurbed) 8125 by Wednesday.

I wish I had premier, but at $199 I cannot complain. Does anyone know if I will be able to take advantage of the full warranty and guarantees by Cingular even though this is a refurbished unit? Could some of you folks share your experience with 'B' stock? I greatly appreciate it!

I just got a refurb on Friday from Premiere (Can't beat $199.) It SEEMs brand spankin new to me in every way, except the battery was partially charged (I don't know if that differs from new ones.)
Anyway, I believe you get the exact same warantee and support. It even comes with the standard little pamphlet that explains warantee info, etc.
It comes in a plain white box. My only concern is that the UPC code is a sticker on the box so I hope they accept it for the mail-in rebate ($100.) I think it's valid.

$140 on premiere? It's $199 on Premiere for me.

Sorry. The 8525, even at $400, is twice the cost. Money is a little tighter for me than usual. The biggest features of the 8525 that I will miss are the 'OK' / 'Start' buttons and the Jog Dial. Everything else is marginal. I can live with a 200mhz cpu for a year. I am not a power user. I mainly use office apps, IE, and Mp3.

Oh yea, I also talk on the phone a lot. Somewhere around 3,000-4,000 minutes /mo. So I hope this thing is a good phone (LOL).

I think the UPC label on the all white box has something that designates a refurb which I do not believe qualifies for the rebate. I had one as well but took advantage of a misquote on our corporate Cingular site and got an 8125 for $9.00.

Hmmm...

Does anyone know how Premier handles multiple upgrades? Apparently, they will let you upgrade your device up to 4 tim
