Posted by: futuredoc

Is it me or is that the ugliest looking smartphone i have ever seen? Seriously!!!

Posted by: DjPiLL

How will this phone compare to the QTEK 8500?

Posted by: cjasus730

Same OS, and same capabilities (basically) with one important addition: World 3G!

This means that wherever you are in the world, as long as the network has coverage in your area with UMTS, you should be able to surf-d/l-videochat (this last is still up in the air).

Posted by: adamz

Looks pretty thin too! Does this really support both European and North American 3G bands? I thought they would have to make a different version for North America. I guess Cingular just started their 3G internet service in New York, so maybe you should send one here.

Posted by: Ishimaru

my god that thing is ugly, bleh! i loved how it showed G while on the cingular network. so much for american 3g huh???

Posted by: cjasus730

@Adam
As a matter of fact, Cingular did launch 3G in NYC. About 2-3 weeks ago, the same day as the Blackberry 7130 launch party.

@DarkJedi
I hear ya on the ugly part- but it does, in fact, have 850/1900 3G- obvioulsy, where the pix were taken, there was no coverage. ATM, Cingular 3G is pretty sparse. Limited to major metropolitan areas. But my guy tells me end of the year for nationwide rollout.

Posted by: Ishimaru

well that model is the old version. the new version does NOT have the camera on the front.

Posted by: iJITSU

I agree that the design of this device is lacking. I much prefer the 8500's design. However, I'm sure I'll buy the MTeoR as soon as it's available. If the 3G makes a big difference I'll keep if and it not I'll sell it.

Posted by: Ishimaru

faster internet is not going to sell me that's for sure. give me better call quality, and we've got a deal.

Posted by: iJITSU

faster data wouldn't sell me, but MUCH faster data would. We'll see.

this the actual producion design ( not finalized yet) as u can see there is no logo.
the front camera a must for 3g phone, otherwise u will not able to use the video call feature.

Posted by: Ishimaru

that may be, but that's not the one that will be sold. the new HTC design is the one that will be sold.

Interestingly, with the correct SIP provider, VOIP calls can be made at a clearer level than the GSM AMR codec provides.

So, technically, a 3G phone would net you better call quality!

According to my sources as well, DarkJedi is correct.
The final version of the MTeoR, as opposed to the protos, will not have a videoconferencing camera.

Since, however, the final version is yet to be released, I don't guarantee that.

Cingular also plans to rollout 3G nationwide by 2007 (yeah right).

You do realize you are arguing with someone who HAS the final production (hardware) in hand, is a US reseller of HTC products, etc?

Posted by: iJITSU

You know, on second thought HTC has a picture of the MTeoR with no front camera on their new website, so maybe the final version won't have a front camera.

Posted by: Ishimaru

dun dun dun.....

Posted by: iJITSU

Yes, it should be DUN capable

Posted by: rperalta

Check out new review of the MTeoR!!! Click here.

Posted by: wease

I think the phone looks sexy. Unfortuneitly no wifi and no need for 3G in my area. I would be all over that if it did have wifi .

What's the point of having wifi in a phone like this?

Posted by: iJITSU

Actually looks much better than I thought in those pictures. I'll be buying one for the UMTS though.

If I'm not mistaken, 3G is coming soon using Cingular. I am currently locked down to Tmobile for the next 1.5 years.

Currently I can only get good Internet surfing speeds on Wifi. I do field service so I am out and about in my region and there are a ton of open Wifi connections to use for email and surfing. When I surf on GPRS it is not as fast and I can't even tell if I am getting edge speeds. So if I can't tell if it is edge speeds, I can assume it isn't.

Posted by: Ishimaru

i just can't see how that phone looks good, it's actually ugly as sin if you ask me. and buying this phone just for 3g which you have to pay an additional $50 a month for unlimited data for...is NOT worth it; especially when this phone will be WAY over $600 when the phone comes out. as tempting as 3g is, it's a waste of money to buy this phone.

Posted by: iJITSU

That's your opinion. I disagree. I think it has the potential to be the best WM smartphone to date, and I am willing to pay for 3g data. And after looking at the pictures in the MSMobiles review, I think it looks nice.

Posted by: Ishimaru

well seeing as how internet for computers is around $30-$50 depending on the service, spending an additional $50 on top of your regular cell phone bill, is a bit steep if you ask me; that would EASILY put my bill at over $100; and that's not something i want, especially when it's only faster data.

Posted by: iJITSU

I can understand that. The point being some people pay premiums for things they want, and others find that those same things aren't worth the money. It varies from person to person.

Posted by: Ishimaru

to each 'is own i guess...

Posted by: veblen

I'm looking forward to this phone for one major reason: it has more ROM than other MS Smartphones. When/where can we purchase this??

Posted by: iJITSU

Smart Mobile Gadgets should have it by the end of this month if not sooner (assuming there is no Customs delay).

here is the review for my mteor

enjoy

Posted by: Ishimaru

$700 for a phone is absolutely ****ing ridiculous (and i'm not ripping on you at all hberbout), that's how much the wizard cost when it first came out. money grubbing HTC, seriously. it doesn't cost $700 to make the phone, why inflate the price so damned much???

Posted by: iJITSU

I agree. It's an absurd price. But unfortunately I'm one of those nuts that's going to pay it.

Posted by: iJITSU

And I don't know what the deal is, but I thought the MTeoR was not a very nice looking phone, but follow that link and look at the first picture. That looks like a sleek, metallic beauty.

Posted by: Ishimaru

oi vey, thats rent money right there. i thought i was a bit insane to pay $600 for the s300 when it came out. but why are these phones growing in price? the tytn is going to be $1200 and only really adds 3g. htc is being greedy and it's pissing me off for one thing.

Posted by: futuredoc

TyTn is going to be $1200?!?! Online sources claim its gonna be priced around $900 MAX. Where did you get that number from? In any case, if it is priced at $1200, i would like to meet those people who upgrade from a K-Jam to the TyTn and then point at them and go hahahahahahah...

Posted by: Ishimaru

well expansys is going to sell it for $1,050, plus there's tax and there's shipping, so you're reaching close to $1200 thats for sure.

Posted by: Ihavenosignal

The TyTn will be about $500. Atleast that is the price it's going for right now in Germany. $900 w/o contract.

Posted by: Ishimaru

too bad you have to order from vodafone, and since not many of us live in germany, we're ***** out.

to quote engadget:

"Apparently the VPA Compact III will set you back as much as €900 ($1,150 US) without contract, or €409 ($522 US) with a two-year"

Posted by: cjasus730

Yeah...not sure where you picked up that price point...?

Care to provide references?

Posted by: Ishimaru

read my post...

Posted by: cjasus730

Actually, there is no tax in out of state orders...and since Expansys is located in IL, 95% won't pay tax.

As for shipping, it shouldn't be more than $20-30. Which brings us up to $1080 max...
I'm still not following your math.

Additionally, Expansys tends to overprice on their pre-orders.

Posted by: Ishimaru

that's actually the UK price (turned to US dollars), no price for the US as of yet.

my price will be 599 or little bit less.. and i agree 700 to much and i will not carry it it will be sold for that price, just too much for a smart phone.

Posted by: Ishimaru

that's awesome to hear, and VERY good for us; though i will stay as far away from this phone as possible! what's price going to be on the TYTN? word has it $1,100.
