Is the 7100 really that bad?

hi,
Just curious about the 7100 BB's. I was having a conversation with someone who I know has a 7100 (the conversation was me on landline to her on BB) and she sounded terrible. Like very very bad, I could only catch a few words of each sentence the voice quality was so bad. Does the sound quality really suck that much? And what is the reception like on the 7100's?

Hey Child...as could be expected, this post doesn't really deserve much of a response....as many many thousands of businessmen(myself included) rely on their 7100's to make them money, literally.
To date, the only time I have had issues with voice quality was when I would wear a bluetooth and the mic would get muffled on something.
As for reception. AGAIN, it's different for every provider. I'm more than happy with mine.
SO, long story short...you can't generalize sound quality or reception.
End of thread.

I used a Nextel 71xx for a while and didn't have any problems. She was probably in a low coverage area or windsurfing on top of her car.

I agree, mine is great, and the sevice with T-Mobile is good. I have a Cingular line too, and can't get a signal worth a damn in my house, yet with T-Mobile, I can talk all day at home!

Alright, good to know. I figured that it if was that bad it wouldn't have been popular. I just know that many poeple have complained to her about the sound quality when she is talking with them...so it must just be her unit. I was just asking because she is the only person I know (besides the people on Hofo) who have/had a 7100 and she is not having a particularly good experiance with it in terms of calls. Thanks for your thoughts

Blackberry uses a high-quality microphone and speaker. In fact, many believe the speakerphone feature is probably the best they've ever used on a phone.
The quality of the components isn't the issue, but rather the design of the unit. Due to the shape of the device, the microphone cannot be placed in a manner that enables the isolation of background noise--as is the case with flip phones. And its in noisy environments where users will get complaints of poor audio quality.
You'll note that on the 8700 series, the microphone is placed adjacent the keyboard, rather than on the end of the device (as on the 7200 series). This is done to help isolate noise.

agreed with jase88.. the 7100i DC response button is so quick then the regular moto phones. And the bluetooth is amazing.. the downside is the DC in bluetooth.. weaker volume... but the reception is actually good and clear..

Well, don't hate me for this, but I'm trying out the Hiptop2 right now because of its QWERTY keyboard and because its cheaper to run. If I don't like it then I will try out the 7100 series. Thanks for your help though, if it wasn't for the expansive data plan I would have it, since you guys cleared up any weariness I had for the device itself.
