Hi. Just got a Razr V3M and I use verizon. I purchaed their VCast Music Essentials kit.
How do I
1. Transfer the pictures I've taken to my PC
2. Find out what is using my memory ?
3. Get more than 2 songs -obv. something is taking up too much memory!
4. Get media on my phone w/out paying the outrageous verizon fees?

Thanks.!

CDMA phones (what verizon/alltel/telus uses) are NOT the same as GSM Phones (like T-Mobile, Cingular, etc)...

Most of the hacking tools and tutorials for GSM Phones do NOT work on CDMA phones...

P2KCommander does work (if you have PST or MSU running in the back ground)... but gives some volume name failed errors, and such... and its AutoStart app needs to be disabled... (v3.22 and v3.26 seem to be the most stable for CDMA phone users). NOTE: P2KCommander doesn't show hidden files/folders.

The SD modified P2KSeem works perfectly... (but again, needs PST or MSU running)... This is because it was modified buy superd**** to work on the CDMA phones!!

The rest.. P2KTools, P2KManager, P2KMenu Editor, MotoKit, etc.. either do NOT work, or have MAJOR PROBLEMS on CDMA Phones... While the flash/flex backup utils "appear to work" they do NOT produce a VALID output file that can be used to flash another phone...

Seem Edits are different between GSM and CDMA phones, the seem file number, etc... are different... there are more tools available to do seem edits in the GSM world.. in the CDMA we have only 1... the SD Modified P2KSeem (aka P2KSeem for V710)...

So.. be careful of what you read... if it doesn't specifically say CDMA or V3C, or V3M, its probably something for a GSM V3, V3i, V3x, v3??? which is not going to be accurate for you.

You can pick up a transflash memory card fairly cheaply.. Fry's Electronic has a 1 gb card for 45$... I used their offer to bring Best Buy down. Anyway, I'd recommend doing this because the V3m would start using the card and not the phone memory. Also, you can use the transflash memory card to transfer to your PC... unfortunately you have to remove the card to do this, but it is hacking free.

After you get a memory card and insert it, swap all of your Pix, Flix, Music, and sound recording to the memory card. This way you can remove it without using data services or hacking your phone. Right now I've got 320 songs on my 1gb transflash and still have 300mb left.

I hope this helps, if you need more infor, please feel free to ask.

Okay, I'm even more confused now -
1. So I can't get the pics off my phone right now using a USB cable? Is that Verizons way of making me pay to email the pics to myself?
2. I don't have a problem buying a card - but how do I get the pics from the phone to the card - and then, do I need something else to get it from the card to the PC?
Thanks.

Correct.

You can try using BitPim if you have a USB Cable...

You'll need a Memory card reader for the PC....

Most TF (aka MICRO-SD) cards come with a adapter to allow them to be used in SD memory card readers on the PC... so if you have a card reader for your PC that you use with a digital camera you might already have one.

I googled bitpim and it doesn't have my phone (the V3M) on the list - how would I know if it will support it? Verizon sure doesn't make this easy.......
Thanks.

Pick V3C or V3CM... it will work fine.

and take a look at item # 7 on the HOW TO's page at http://mark.cdmaforums.com

Lets just say I want to go by the book so I don't void the warrenty - will this work?
get a memory card
move the pics to the card (how do I do that)
use a card reader and put the pics on my pc?

Ok, to install the card, take the back off the phone by pushing the little silver tab at the top. Remove the battery and insert it in the small (and I mean small) slot that is availible as per the book. Put the battery back in, the cover on, and turn on the phone.

Go into picture taking mode, go into the options, and have it save default to card. Do the same for sounds (unless recording for a ring tone) pictures, etc.

I'm using MPT to adjust the phone book... got it from the manufacture using a code to drop the cost to 23$... worth it since Verizon charges 10$ each time they do anything for your phone here.

After you take enough pics and want to transfer them to your pc, you'll need to take the memory card out, put it in a SD adapter (which may have come with it) and insert it into a memory card reader and you can access the files though Windows Explorer or any other file browser.

Sucks doing it this way, but I too am avoiding voiding the warranty on 2 Vm3's.
