While price shopping for a GD 55, I found a Taiwanese sight that had a little blurb about a new Panasonic model. Quanta is the company that manufactures the phones (GD55/50) for Panasonic.

"Panasonic GD50 phone
In 2Q03, Quanta plans to begin shipping Panasonic's GD50 phone, adding it to the GD55 it already ships. The new phone will have a color display and tri-band support and be lighter than the GD55. Quanta also makes phones for Siemens and shipped a total of 1M phones in 2002. "

Lighter than the GD55, that will be impressive. I may have wait a few months and buy the GD50. No pictures were shown but they might be out if you can find them.
