Step by step Idiots Guide to SEEM editing the Motorola V3M

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Pelicanmaster

This is a streamlined how to specifically for V3M owners thanks to the links proved by Mark Venture’s Pages. All credit goes to Mark Venture for this stuff.

1: Get a USB to USB mini connector cable. If you’ve got a digital camera you may already have one hanging around. The large USB end goes to the PC and needs to be DIRECTLY connected to a PC USB port, not to a USB hub.

2: Download/expand and save these three software packages on your hard drive - Do NOT install them yet.

Motorola Software update called “MSU”

P2K SEEM editing applet

Drivertool

Step 1: Use drivertool to set up the Motorola USB modem driver

Install steps detailed here

Step 2: Run the MSU package – This has multiple driver installs and may require reinstalling these drivers every time you run the package. Install procedure detailed here

Step 3: Plug in your phone and the MSU package should detect it. Your phone ESN number will pop up on the left screen - The other two defaults for model # and carrier will be listed as "NA"

Step 4: Run the PKSEEM applet -Once it says connected in the bottom left hand corner Put “2742” for "SEEM", and above that to the right put “0000” for "bytes", then click “load from phone" button – the SEEM code will pop up for editing.

Step 5: Save a backup of your UNEDITED SEEM file now – Detailed here

The two most popular changes are

1; Making the phones pics, music & data and SD micro trans flash card accessible with the Motorola Phone Tools interface package

To do this go to
Offset 006a Bit 0 – Bluetooth or USB file transfer in MPT etc. – Check to enable

2; Making the vibrate then ring mode active

To do this go to

Offset 7B Bit 3 - Vibrate THEN Ring part1 - Uncheck to enable
Offset 7B Bit 4 - Vibrate THEN Ring part2 - Check to enable
With Bit 3 & 4 set this way, you will have Vibrate THEN Ring available as a ring style
Offset 7B Bit 2 - Moto UI Style Ring Control Part 1 - Uncheck to enable
Offset 7B Bit 7 - Moto UI Style Ring Control Part 2 - Check to enable

Srep 6: Make your code changes as desired -then click "save to phone" Do not remove the phone while it is being flashed (it only takes a few seconds) – Remove and power cycle the phone to confirm the changes have taken.

You can possibly nuke your phone if you do this wrong, so proceed at your own risk. No warranties expressed or implied - Free advice is worth what it cost you - etc. etc.

As a side note. Walmart carries 2 USB to USB mini cables. One is a $ 15.00 Belkin cable in the data cables section. There's another one for about $ 5.00 and it's typically with the gaming controller accessories as the PS2 or XBOX console uses it for something or other.

Additional V3M SEEM edits - Confirm that descriptive text below shows next to offset bit before enabling

Offset 003f, bit 6 - on, Enables Call Barring Settings > Security > Restrict Calls > Outgoing Calls

Offset 007d, bit 5 - on, Changes backlight times to 20, 40, 60, seconds

Offset 000a, bit 7 - on, Enables Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight > Continuous - Dims Backlight instead of shutting off

Offset 006a, bit 3 - on, Enables the Menu: Security > Data Connection - it has the 1XRTT Settings and Service Type

Offset 000c, bit 1 - on, Enables scroll missed calls when flip closed

Offset 0006, bit 1 - on, Enables "Siren" Alert

Offset 0038, bit 1 - on, Enables "Continental" Alert

Offset 0038, bit 2 - on, Enables "Classic" Alert

Offset 0038, bit 3 - on, Enables "Attention" Alert

Offset 003b, bit 0 - on, Enables "Moonlit Haze" Alert

First off, thanks to the author of this post. Not much be take the time to help out us newbs.

I'm a hardcore newb at this, but does this work for the V3c? Cause my girlfriend would love to have the "classic ringer".

Thanks

P.S is there and easier way to get the classic ringer?

Posted by: jeremymiller

Wow! This was VERY easy to understand! Bravo my friend! I WILL use this.

One question though.
On the first SEEM edit you describe, does that enable file transfer with bluetooth?

Posted by: Mark_Venture

Small problem...

Please DON't do DIRECT links to my pages... I'm trying to re-do things...

You're going to have broken links here...

Not to mention... using direct links will NOT give the person FRAMES along the left and top... so they won't see the other info... like the POPULAR SEEM EDITS page which lists all of the currently known to work edits... Or the FAQ which has links to purchasing a cable...

or the MPT page, with discount codes for purchasing MPT...

or the HOW TO's page with the other stuff...

Yes, the seem edits for the V3C and V3M are interchangeable...

no, there isn't an easier way to get the classic ringer..

Hey guys this is my first post. I have a V3m, and did the seem edits mentioned here and in the other site as well. Almost all of them worked out fine except, that I can not scroll my missed calls on the outside screen. Any ideas?

Thanks for the info. for this newb. Now I have the Vibe then Ring. Many thanks,

Ugh, I think I really messed this up. I had an E815's setup on this laptop. Trying my new V3m to work to seem edit it.

Ran the Drivertools file. Plugged it in and did the auto detect. All that went fine.
Unplugged Phone
Installed MSU and ran it.
Plugged in Phone
Windows Redected a "V3C" and "Composite USB Device". Then it says there was a problem with the device and in the Device Manager, the new "Composite USB Device" has an error 10 Device cannot start.
MSU wont detect the phone at this point.

Any advice?

Is there a list of files and crap I should just go thru and delete off of here to start over from scratch?

Posted by: Amzran

Nevermind, I ran the Driver Tools and then launched MPT and let it detect the phone, then closed it and ran MSU and it installed it's stuff fine.

Ran into several major problems with this hack on a Verizon Razor.

1) Software installs won't work with a microSD card installed--they can't detect the phone. Remove it first.

2) Even after the hack, you stil can't use motorola phone tools to upload/download/edit pictures and sound files since those parts of the software are not installed by motorola when using a V3M profile.

Wierd: The multimedia software shows up when I use my V325 with PhoneTools, but it is not accessible becasue the V325 does not have multimedia functions; but the multimedia software does NOT show up with the V3M because they are not included in motorola's profiles for the Razor phones, even though the V3M DOES have multimedia functions.

(Thanks a lot Verizon.)

Anyone know how to get around this problem?

3) Once I did get everything up and running (by removing the microSD card, then putting it back in after installing the software), the micromedia card still didn't show up as an editable item in "my computer," i.e. as a USB storage device, like camera memory.

So, in short, the hack becomes a waste of time because the next time you plug in your phone, the computer won't recognize it with the microSD card installed, and you STILL can't upload or download files.

Got any suggestions?

you either manually config MPT for V3MM, or visit http://mark.cdmaforums.com and read about the Phone ID String SEEM EDIT... do it.. and get MPT to autodetect the phone again...

Suprised if it shows in with the V325.. unless you manually changed MPT for V323M...

As for ANY Verizon phone... see the MPT link on my page.. read the part about the missing "M" from the phone ID string...

It wont... Not unless the phone is in the mode to sync with WMP.. and even then its still not the same thing as if you plugged in a USB Flash drive...

I have a 512 meg micro SD card onboard and it hasn't interfered with any software installs and it pops up perfectly as a storage and transfer area under MPT. Re MPT you are choosing the wrong definition on the MPT phone/modem install portion. The V3CM *not* the V3M is the phone definition you need for Multimedia IO to be enabled.

Make sure you have upgraded MPT 4.0 to the latest version. They just had a recent update.

Latest is v4.21a... and that is needed to select V3M or V3MM... V3CM was supported in 4.04b...

GOT IT!!

For clarification, the correct driver for the current crop of Razors is "v3mm."

The hard part was--having already installed the software and using it with another phone--tricking the MPT software into failing so I could manually choose the drivers.

1) With phone unplugged, start the MPT software.

2) Create a new blank profile.

3) When the autodetect box comes up, click "next," then plug the phone in only for a second, just long enough to start the autodetect process, but not long enough for the software to detect the phone.

4) When the process fails, a dialogue box will come up asking if you want to go online to check for the latest software. Click "yes," the click through all the "next" buttons to "finish."

5) After you finish, the autodetect dialogue box will come up again. Do the same thing as before--click "next," then only plug your phone in long enough to start the process, then unplug it.

6) After the process fails again, the software will ask if you want to manually configure the software. Click "yes."

7) Always tell the next dialogue boxes that "you have a disk," or that "you will choose the location," so you can manually choose the drivers.

8) In the next dialogue box, if "Motorola USB Modem" is available, choose it. If not, click "add" and choose the "Motorola USB Modem" driver manually. Click next.

9) In the next dialogue box, click "CDMA" in the left list, then "v3mm" in the right list.

10) Click "next," then "finish" to confirm the settings and close up the dialogue box.

11) The MPT software will start. Plug in your phone. After a few seconds, the software should detext your phone, and all of the menu items, including "multimedia studio" should show up and function properly.

Thanks, and best of luck.

By the way, does anyone know the offset and bit to enable analog reception with this here Verizon Razor and turn it into a trimode phone?

I believe the T-Mobile version is at least trimode, and I know the Cingular version is quad band.

When I was browsing through the SEEM settings, I noticed that bits were marked to turn the upper bands on and off, but there was no indication of which bits would turn the lower bands on and off.

Trimode service is still available from Verizon (my new V325 is trimode, but it is one of the last ones still available with such functions), and it would be great to have the lower bandwidths available in those backwoods parts of Indiana (and other parts of the country) that still don't have digital service available.

If the T-Mobile and Cingular versions of the Razor can connect out there, then there has to be a way to get the Verizon version to do it, too.

Any suggestions?

None of the Moto EVDO phones do analog... I don't know if verizon sells any EVDO phone that does analog too...

GSM phones (T-mobile, Cingular, etc) are NOT the same as CDMA (Verizon, Telus, Alltel, Bell)!!!

T-Mobile and Cingular Razr's have OPP and OBEX.. so the Verizon ones should too, right?? Guess what... they don't. (well, except the V3C with .02, or the LEAKED .04P firmware)....

Keep in mind... the Offset/Bit descriptions in P2KSeem are controlled by the FUNCTIONS.CSV file included with P2KSeem...

The original FUNCTIONS.CSV was based on the 0032 seem for GSM phones, and not all descriptins apply to the CDMA phones. The 0032 seem on GSM phones controls the features... on the CDMA's its 041A for the V710, and 2742 for the E815, V3C, and V3M... I think the V265 and V325 is seem 041A...

If the CDMA's have an 0032 seem, it doesn't control the same things as it does on GSM phones...

If you are looking at seem descriptions at http://xlr8.us/hofo/map.txt... again... those are for GSM PHONES.... NOT CDMA... and most do NOT work on the CDMA phones

Apples vs Oranges...

Yes, they are all called "Razr" but its what's under the covers that makes them unique... Different RADIO components and technologies... The CDMA Razr's use Qualcom chipsets... Not sure what the GSM side uses...

And T-Mobile/Cingular might have more towers in that area compaired to Verizon.

Think... Cadillac CTS vs CTS-V... Both are Cadillac CTS's... look very similar right? And one can go from 0-60 in under 5.5 seconds... right? so the other should too?? no?? Oh, thats right... the V has a 6.0L 400hp V8... where as the non-V has either 2.8L 210hp V6, or a 3.6L 255hp v6... So there is no way they can be expected to perform the same...

I have a problem. I just got a Motorola V3M. I used PKSeem to apply the Seem edits described here, however, something happened, and now the external LCD Display does not come on when I receive calls or press the buttons with the flip closed. The main LCD also blacks out when on a call and will not come back on unless the flip is closed and opened back up again. And finally, I'm no longer able to go into the Intial Setup menu on the phone. This is where the backlight settings can be changed. Before I made the changes, I backed up the original SEEM. When it messed up, I loaded the original SEEM, restarted the phone, disconnected it, powered it off, and then back on. Things were back to the way they were before the SEEM edit, however, the LCD is still not working, and I still can't get into the Initial Setup Menu. Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

OK, well, I thought I had everything worked out.

Turned on MPT compatability.
Turned on transflash card move/copy
Renamed phone to v3mm
Drivers load when the phone is plugged in every time.
MPT immediately recognizes the phone as a v3mm, and loads the appropriate profile.

All is well.

Except when I put the memory card in.

Then the drivers won't load right, MTP won't recognize the phone, and I can't even get the SEEM editor.

Have to remove the card, then all is well again.

Checked the card in a card reader, and everything seems to be fine.

Put the card in the phone and the phone sees the card.

But the drivers won't load next time I plug it in.

Wierd or what?

Format the card *in* the standalone V3M using the built in phone utility to do this, not via the card reader and PC. Also make sure the phione sees the card and that it is fully seated and oriented properly. It has to push in about a millimeter or two PAST the black plastic ledge, not flush with it. I made this mistake when I was first playing with the card and thought the card was defective. (save any critical card data first of course)

Posted by: Dillinger

can someone post the video hack to enable 5 minute recording.. and does anyone think there will be a hack so u can use the transflash card to store the ringers and use them from the card...

Posted by: LeonWestbrook

It took me a while, but i truely thank all of you for providing me with the knowledge to make my Razr modded! I look forward to more seem edits (when they are tested of course!)

Is there a way to get MSU to install on Windows XP SP1? I don't have SP2, and I don't want it.

Alternatively, is there a way to do this on my Mac (OS X 10.4)? I've got BitPim but I don't think it does SEEM editing.

EDIT: My goal is to be able to add my own MP3s as ringtones for free, via the USB cable. I've got a Mac OS X 10.4 machine and an XP SP1 machine.

NO. I DOUBT Moto would list W2K SP4 or XP SP2 as a REQUIREMENT for install if you could do it on SP1..

You can NOT seem edit on a MAC... Ok, so the GSM world can try -> http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=951630

But the tool it uses doesn't appear to work properly with CDMA phones yet...

BitPim can not ADD ring tones without the seem edit first.. And even then, with the V3M, there are still reports of problems using BitPim...

You're only hope.. find PST v7.23 (its warez so don't ask for a link)... and use P2KCommander (see item #10 on the HOW TO's at http://mark.cdmaforums.com for how to setup)... drop the ring tones in the /motorola/shared/audio folder then delete the /MyToneDB.DB are restart the phone... BUT when the MyToneDB.DB gets re-created, the ring tones get re-indexed, so your RINGER ID's will probably change...

OR see if you can put MP3's on the TF Card via memory card reader on PC or MAC, then use phone's menu to copy the Mp3's from TF to phone's memory... (I don't have a V3M, so I don't remember if this is possible..)

Posted by: Raptor007

Alright, thanks for the info. You're right, I tried dropping audio into /motorola/shared/audio with BitPim, but it told me my provider prohibited access. Then I tried /motorola/shared/ringtones but it doesn't seem to actually use that folder.

I just fixed my 2nd install of XP (x64 SP2), so now I should be able to follow the instructions here, and SEEM edit so I'm allowed to access the audio directory (hopefully with BitPim, since my music collection is on the Mac, but it's not a big deal if I need to use a different program on my PC).

EDIT: Ugh! Apparently XP x64 doesn't count as XP... I don't want to ruin my normal install, so I guess I'll make a *3rd* install.

By the way, many software applications claim to require SP2 and work just fine with SP1; probably because they don't want to bother testing on SP1. I'm pretty sure if the installer didn't check, the software would work.

Posted by: Raptor007

Okay, the 2nd XP install worked, and so did SEEM editing. I enabled the transfer bit and also a couple other edits.

However, I still can't edit /motorola/shared/audio with BitPim. I tried P2k Commander, but it always hangs whenever I select my phone from the list of drives. Do I need MPT to transfer ringtones?

EDIT: Huh, now P2K Commander is working. I guess I had to shut down the phone, power it back up, and reconnect it. Not sure why, I already did that after the SEEM edits...

EDIT: Okay, it took me a few tries (P2K Commander kept locking up), but now I have uploaded my own ring tone via USB! And it works!

Thanks so much! These forums are great because people are so helpful here.

Known issue.. BitPim when using the FILE SYSTEM Tab gives you that the File system is locked. No way around that...

But with 9.0x you can try and make use of the GUI part for ring ADDING ring tones after you've seem edited the phone (same 2742/6A/bit0 that MPT needs), and MANUALLY Configure it for V3CM...

see also -> BitPim v9.04... Here's what it can do...

But many V3M users mention they get the "error transitioning phone" message... which can sometimes be resolved from unplugging the phone powering it off, then back on, and trying again... others can't resolve this...

So... If you seem edit the phone, MPT still works best for ring tones...

see the BITPIM link at http://mark.cdmaforums.com

but I still have to add to that page that the V3M can not be autodetected, and you must manually select V3C... if you've done the 2742/6A/bit0 edit, you can select V3CM....

I just booted to my SP1 install and ran msu.exe (which I had to use SP2 to install), then plugged in my phone and pointed it to the P2k Commander folder for its drivers. It's all working perfectly under SP1. If they were smart, their installer would give a warning about installing under pre-SP2 rather than stopping you, because obviously it does still work without SP2.

I'm not mad at you, just mad at whoever at Motorola set up that installer.

Anyway, this is good, I don't have to boot to a different Windows just to edit my phone anymore. I think I'll put together an archive of the post-install Motorola Software Update and upload it for SP1 users, so they don't have to go through the crap I did.

MORE DETAILS PLEASE...

your other post said... "cant sync up" this one says "doesn't work"... um... errors messages?? what do you do? what happens? what do you see? Can we have something to go on??

Does your phone show as moto usb modem in device manager?
Do you see "moto usb modem" under ACTIVE PORTS when you try and config bitpim?
Do you have NO OTHER APPS open/running?
Have you tried first disconnecting the USB Cable, removing and re-placing the battery, then trying BitPim?

DETAILS.....

I can't offer help on post that just says "Its broke, fix it"....

I've done the seem edits to change to vibe than ring and the bluetooth connection w/ my lap top. But know the Date on the wallpaper screen is not correct. The calendar date is correct, and when text messages come in the time and date are correct.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi-
Just changed some of the seems in my Razr V3M. When I was in P2K, there was a selection I was wondering about:
offset 001f, bit 0 - Menu: Call Waiting (in call) - off

Does anyone know what this menu is and what would happen if I turned it on?

Also, I thought I'd enabled file transfer to the phone but apparently I did not. When I go to the Bluetooth services manager in Windows, the only service that shows available on the phone is "Dial Up Networking (DUNS)."

How can I enable the phone to do file sharing with Windows XP. Preferably, I do not want to have to use MPT.

Thanks
Duncan

Some of the descriptions of offset/bit combos are "left overs" from GSM phones that do NOT apply to CDMA phones like the V3C/V3M... You can try it, but its likely that this offset/bit combo will not work on your phone...

Please do a lot more research.

The V3M does NOT support Bluetooth OBEX File Transfers... There is no seem edit for this, there is no hack to enable this.

The only Bluetooth Profiles the V3M supports is Handsfree/headset, and DUN...

You can seem edit the phone and use MPT to transfer files (Seem 2742, offset 6A, bit0)... and that is it.

Is there a process using SEEM edits that will unlock the ability to personalize the home keys on a Verizon RAZR V3M?

The GSM version of the RAZR allows me to set the up, down, left and right home keys to menu options of my choice. Can this be turned on for the V3M?

Thanks

No warranties expressed or implied - Free advice is worth what it cost you - etc. etc.

Sometimes it can be picky about how you connect it, and it isn't always consistent.

Try this...
1. Disconnect your phone.
2. Turn your phone off and then back on again.
3. If P2k Commander's autostart is running in your taskbar, DISABLE the Autoswitch to P2k Mode option.
4. Plug your phone into your computer.
5. Open Motorola Software Update. This will switch your phone to P2k mode. Install the 4 drivers automatically if it asks for them.
6. Close Motorola Software Update.
7. Open your P2k app (P2kSeem or whatever else) and use it.

If it still doesn't work, you can try mixing it up, like opening Motorola Software Update before plugging the phone in, or opening your P2k app before closing Motorola Software Update. As I said, it's somewhat inconsistent, but I can always get it to work this way fairly quickly.

First...

visit... http://mark.cdmaforums.com Use the HOW TO's page.

If you are running PST, make sure its v7.23. make sure you use item #2 (PREP-WORK SECTION)... and follow it EXACTLY... make note and post any differences you see. Does the Phonebook Read test at the bottom of those instructions work??

If, instead of using PST, you are using Motorola Software Update (aka MSU), then use ITEM #2a... and again... note/post any differences you see...

I just bought a razr v3m from verizon and am interested in making it do the most things for me. What exactly can I do with this phone? Modifying it would be beneficial in what way exactly. I have heard that they have locked certain features etc... I do have a mini sd card installed and would like to add music, tones and pics if possible to the phone but don't know exactly what I would need to accomplish this and how. Any info for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance.

Does anyone know if the Offset 94 Bit 7 (outer lcd orange vs. graphic) works for the v3m? I was reading it on http://mark.cdmaforums.com/ and it says v3c with vzw 4.0 but i wasnt sure if someone had tested it for the v3m.

On the V3C with .04p firmware... the outside LCD shows as a solid color... (most say orange)...

Offset 94/bit 7 is the "fix" for that... after applying that edit... the outside LCD shows the same graphic as the inside LCD...

So, if your V3M's outside LCD is a solid color rather than graphic... use that edit...

Make sure the "0000" is placed in the "bytes" section *ABOVE AND TO THE RIGHT* of the 2742 box, NOT in the box right next to it. If you do this and the phone is properly connected the full, editable SEEM code page will load.

I have a verizon V3m. Thank you to all of you for your posts. This is my first and am a newbee. I followed the directions and in about an hour and all that I did worked GREAT!

I added the classic ringer, MPT recognizes phone as v3mm so that MPT now works w/bt to transfer mp3's and .mid's as ringtones, volume is moto 1-7.

I wasn't going to keep the phone until I found y'all and showed me how to tweak it. I'm still in my 15 day decision period.

Thanks again and I'm looking forward to learning more and hopefully helping someone else along the way.

Please add this SEEM EDIT to the Popular ones! I have tested it and it works. It allows MPT (motorolla phone tools) to activate the multimedia tools!!!
I cant believe Verizon would disable this, it is the best feature of the phone.

for the V3C(.02/.03 firmware)/V3M this would be

Seem "2827", Record "1", Bytes "h22",

Offset "0006"

enable bits 0-2-3-5-6 and Leave Bits 1-4-7 disabled.

You should see the letter "m" appear so that the phone reads V3mm or V3cm.

Um... it has been on the list for a LONG TIME NOW....

http://mark.cdmaforums.com ... use the HOW TO's... item # 3A... its also been listed on my MPT page...

its been known about for the V710 and E815... WAY BEFORE the V3C came out...

Just speaking from my perspective as being new to modding/hacking the V3M (verizon), I found this forum very quickly and performed the SEEM edits in the 1st post.
I opened up MPT and still didn't see the media center. So I had to do more searching to find an article on how to make the pc recognize the phone as an V3MM @ http://mark.cdmaforums.com.
Trying to make it easier for googlers to find all of the info in 1 place.

Wondering is someone can help me with this seem. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I go in the seem, enable all but can only get the 1-7 volume to work correctly, but the vibrate and ring won't work. I do have a couple questions. When do you know the phone is done flashing? I've just been letting it sit for a while plugged in to the computer and nothing comes up saying it's done. Also, while I've been doing this seem, there is a bit (1, I believe) that is checked. Should I uncheck that to make the vibrate feature work? Also, I'm not really interested in MPT, so I haven't been doing any seems with that. Would that cause the vibrate and ring seem not to work.

Thanks

Two things

1:Make sure the "0000" is placed in the "bytes" section *ABOVE AND TO THE RIGHT* of the 2742 box, NOT in the box right next to it. If you do this and the phone is properly connected the full, editable SEEM code page will load.

2: Making the vibrate then ring mode active

To do this go to

Offset 7B Bit 3 - Vibrate THEN Ring part1 - Uncheck to enable
Offset 7B Bit 4 - Vibrate THEN Ring part2 - Check to enable
Offset 7B Bit 2 - Moto UI Style Ring Control Part 1 - Uncheck to enable
Offset 7B Bit 7 - Moto UI Style Ring Control Part 2 - Check to enable

Phone takes a few seconds to flash. I typically let it sit for 30 seconds after flashing before removing or power cycling.

Thanks Pelican. I figured it out. I was doing everything right, just looking in the wrong place for the vibrate and ring function. I thought it would show up with the lower left key on the side of the phone. I didn't realize you had to go into the sound settings to find it. But everything seems to be working great. Awsome directions and actually pretty easy to do. Thanks again..

Posted by: Tbeaver

Pelican,

I was wondering if the other seem edits you wrote are at the same seem (2742). I was looking to try the flip phone, scroll miss calls seem but didn't see it at the offset mentioned. In the seem, does it mention anything about "Scroll Miss Calls, etc..". Or is it just a box with a check in it that you have to uncheck? Thanks for helping, I'm new to all of this stuff.

I got a V3M some time ago, lurked, read, downloaded, modded, and have a decent setup now (thanks to ALL the highend guys and gals out there) There are a couple of things that no one seems to be asking/or addressing since they are minor in the big picture.

1. I have seen reference to but no proof that you can run an anamated GIF on the CL. Is it possible? I have tried several different things all to no joy

2. Verisons manual tells of the wallpaper "or animations". I cant get an animation to run outside the screensaver, even the one that comes stock with the phone. Could it be an image size issue with the "red lines" that have everone seeing red in the stock UI?

3. Is there a trigger for the screensaver other than when the phones on a cord? What a terrible waste of a nice screen

4. Is there a way to get rid of the time and date on the UI, at LEAST on the CL? You cant see the picture under it.

Mark, just a personal thanks for TONS of information and I am SURE time. Not to mention not going off the deep end for all those that dont know the 2 important features of the internet <Search> and GOOGLE

AFAIK, its like wall paper for the inside LCD.. you can't use an animated picture for that.. and if you do, it will show the first frame only...

On the V710 and E815... animated GIF's can only be used as a screen saver on the primary/inside LCD... it can not be used as wall papers... if you do set an animated GIF to the wall paper, it will show the first frame only...

So my feeling, its a Moto limit.... not Verizon UI...

Like have it do the screen saver as soon as you "plug it in"? no.. only the TIME limit will kick off the screen saver... but the phone is not "smart enough" to change the screen time outs and such when on "AC" vs "Battery" like laptops can...

So, the same setting for screen off, and screen saver, etc... apply to BOTH battery or when plugged in..

No, there is no way because of the Verizon UI...

In the Moto UI phones (like the E815, or Alltel V3C), you can do a SKIN... but even then, you can't get rid of the time/date on the OUTSIDE LCD...

ha ha.. just kidding...

Actually, your right, I don't remember anyone asking the first 3...

I've got MPT, updated it, did the proper seems, etc.... for the V3M But I'm having a problem with storing stuff on the transflash card. I tried following Marks directions on storing on the Transflash card. But I can't seem to find the songs on the phone, but it does show up on Transhflash as being stored. Do I need to format the card again with the phone since I've installed MPT? Also, I noticed that Mark mentioned that the transflash should show up as MMC1 removable. Where mines says MMC removable. Does that matter? I also have noticed a seem for moving/copying transflash or something like that. Do I need to do that seem to make the transflash work properly. Or maybe its just that I'm storing the songs in the wrong place in the folders. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have NOT updated my Transflash page for the V3M yet.

There are differences between how the V710/E815 work with the transflash card, compared to the V3M...

With the V3M...
1. The phone will play MP3's ONE AT A TIME.. no play lists, nothing... Place the MP3's on the ROOT of the transflash card, OR make a folder and edit the ARCCONFIG.INI (see ITEM #35 on the HOW TO's at http://mark.cdmaforums.com for details)...

2. The Verizon Music Player will only play WMA's, but can make play lists, etc.. Place the WMA's in the MY_MUSIC folder on the TF card...

I don't have the Verizon music payer, but I can play MP3s (even long ones) as ring tones if put into the V3M's onboard (not the trans flash) audio directory. Per your note above, using Motorola Phone Tools file transfer function I put a few MP3s into the root directory of the 512 meg trans flash card, but can't get the phone to see them via the ringtone test play method.

If I don't have the music player software how do you access the songs in the root directory of the trans flash card to play them using your method?

Not sure... I don't have a V3M... (one of the main reasons I haven't added a lot of info to my pages about it..)... so I can't play, try things, etc.. I can only go by what I've read in these forums...

Maybe pop over to -> http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=947301 and post the question about using MP3's off the TF card...

However, I just noticed something... in POST #3 of that thread...

Hello--
I have been searching the forums for an answer, but cant find it. I have a Moto Razr (VZN) and have done the suggested seem edits and gotten the software, but I cant get it to recognize and read off the SD card. I cant even find a way to move files to the card or save them there. Is there something I may be missing? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Posted by: cduncanf

Stumpf-

You should be able to get the V3m to put files on the TF card with MPT, even if you have a brain-dead VZW phone like I do. Did you try formatting the card in the V3m first as well as telling MPT that it's a V3m?

Once I did that, I was able to transfer over .wma files and the phone can play them. It put them in a /music directory on the phone. However, I have found that the phone can only see 40 songs at a time in this directory. If I try to add a 41st song, MPT returns a 'processing error' and the phone shuts down. I have tried to use sub directories but the dumba-- VZW music player does not want to find them. I've pretty much given up playing with it until Moto and VZW release the patch. They've been promising it for a couple of weeks and as of yesterday, they said sometime around 8/23.

Hope this helps.
Duncan

Posted by: stumpf2000

Thanks, I will try that. Do you also have problems with every time you plug the phone into the computer, you have a ton to trouble getting MPT to recognize the phone. It would sit there forever saying it is trying to initialize...

thanks again

Thank you Pelican (and everyone else who responded here)!

I just got a V3m yesterday, and found this guide extremely easy to follow - now I feel like the phone is actually useful enough to keep.

No warranties expressed or implied - Free advice is worth what it cost you - etc. etc.

I am having a terrible time getting music onto the T Flash card of the V3m. What is the best way to do it so I can use the player as a psudo Mp3 player? Is it best to have it sync with WMP? Or is it better to have MPT do it? In either case, how can I tell it to put the music on the card and not the phone.

This is driving me nuts! Is there a way to dump the music directly on the card via a card reader? What is the most efficient way of getting music to the card and having the phone work as a player? Please help!!!

You might want to visit http://mark.cdmaforums.com and view the SEEM EDIT guide there, its an illustrated walk thru... just be sure to READ ALL TEXT and don't just follow the pictures!!

While you're there, see the HOW TO's page...

as for "music" you can sync with Windows Media Player to get WMA's into the MY_MUSIC folder on a transflash card (if you have one in the phone)... I'm not sure where in the phone's memory it would go, but then again, with only like 40meg memory in the phone, you wouldn't have much room...

If syning with WMP doesn't work, or you have problems... after inserting the card into the phone the first time (so the proper folders are created), put it in a memory card reader on your PC... and drop the WMA's in the MY_MUSIC folder...

Posted by: hanau

i can not get the computer to see the phone to load music on.
and i have also put music on the card by inserting it into the computer. then saving it to my music folder . it will not see the music on the card when putting it back in the phone. i am saving them as a wma file

verizon says you have to have there music essential cds to do this.

thanks for the other info

HI--

I want to apologize in advance for my stupidity. I still am having trouble getting the phone to recognize music i put on the phone/card. I have converted music to WMA and then loaded it in the "play" file on the card after formating. I have tried to sync it to the phone, but it stops in the middle with an error.

Any other ways to get music onto the V3m music player from my computer? I am at my wits end! Thank you all!

I have converted music to WMA and then loaded it in the "play" file on the card after formating. I have tried to sync it to the phone, but it stops in the middle with an error.

Any other ways to get music onto the V3m music player from my computer? I am at my wits end! Thank you all!

Huh??? play file on the card??

Insert the card into a card reader attached to a PC... Format the card on the PC as FAT (not FAT32!!, not NTFS!!)... put card in phone... turn card on.. take card out of phone, put it back in PC's card reader... put WMA files into /MY_MUSIC folder... put card back in phone.. use Verizon Music Player to play...

NOTE: this only works for non-protected WMA files.
NOTE: Formatting the card in the PC will destroy all data currently on the card.

Is there a SEEM edited to increase the number of characters that can be stored with a phone number.

I've never seen a seem edit for this.

Is there a SEEM edit to enable the "Lock Application" feature on the V3M in the Verizon UI or do I need to flash with the Alltel Firmware to enable that feature?

Or

Does the V3C (Verizon UI) already have this feature? Can anyone point me in the right direction in enabling this feature.

Thanks!

No one has found a way to enable that expect by getting the Motorola UI back (flashing to Alltel)

TY for the confirmation Humpa. That is what I thought.

Now another question:

Which Alltel firmware should I flash to? All I need the phone to do is have the above mentioned security features and be able to TXT and PIX message. I do not want or need VCast or GetItNow and could care less if these features even work with the Alltel firmware.

Suggestions or pointers would be very welcome. I'm looking forward to diving into the innards of this phone!

The newest Alltel firmware (I forget the version numbers, but they're available from my signature).
Follow this guide, and post in the associated thread (I don't have the link to that thread handy, though):

I Really must be an "idiot"

Followed your guide, Great by the way.

All drivers installed (like 5 or so)

But when I run P2k, Place the 2742 i think it is in the seem section an all the 0000 in the Hex, I get NO "Junk" Hex Code. Tried leaving the Default Hex Code, Nada.

Phone is new. USB recognizes it, and even charges the phone. Laptop is new too.

You need PST or MSU running and connected properly to your phone first, and then you start p2kseem (and it MUST be the correct version of p2kseem).
Try Mark V's guides if you are having problems:
http://mark.cdmaforums.com - and go to the Seem Edit page

Posted by: Paul Days

Ok, Problem Solved, I just never left the MSU running, it wasn't really clear until i checked Mark Venture's CDMA Forum Page. Did the seems that i wanted, nice thank you all.

Paul

PS- BOO-HOO-HOO :-( I WANT BT OBEX!

After following Mark Venture's procedure, I was successful to edit the Seem code and loaded into my V3m. I backed unedited Seem file as instructed. Now I try to do the same for my wife's V3m. To take a shortcut, I loaded saved edited Seem file directly into my wife's V3m and it went well. However, I got problem to call my wife's V3m. I got Verizon massege said " The person you try to reach is not taking the call, please try again later". I have no problem to have a land phone call both V3m. I also have no problem to call from my wife's V3m to my V3m. I just wondering if two phone cannot have the same seem codes? Please help.

Posted by: Marlon888

I backed unedit Seem codes for my V3m. Since everything went so well, I did not back unedit Seem codes for my wife's V3m. Now I am stucked with only one unedit Seem codes.

A lot of people use a pre-edited seem 2742 without any problems. Is that the seem you are talking about?

Posted by: Marlon888

Yes, pre-edited seem can be used for different phones. I finally found out what the problem was. I stored the wrong phone number for the other V3m, so I was not dialing the right phone. I thought I nuked the phone initially. I am so dumb. But now, everything worked out ok. I appreciate you guys who put the detailed instruction on the forum.

Posted by: sillysliderboy

Oh man...this is REALLY bad. I'm not sure if you guys will be able to help me fix this.

Here's the story...

I was editing some seems, and I used the bluetooth/usb enabled one. So now that is enabled, and I went onto Motorola Phone Tools, changed the phone to V3mc or whatevr, so that I can use multimedia on phone tools.

So now I decided to use the banner hack seem. I was fooling around with the banner, and saved it. Suddenly, my phone became REALLY slow. I couldn't dial any numbers. None of the menus are accesible. I dialed my phone number, and I get my voice mail. I can't even power on or off, I just have to take the battery out. I can get to the bootloader though...

Is there a way to edit seems from the bootloader, or is there any other way to fix my problem? I can't get connected in in advanced P2k seem edit, I even have the backup for it, I just need to connect once!

I know i'm such a noob for not being more careful, and I know none of you are really responsible for this but I would be SO glad if any of you could help mme out :-( pleeease.

I have a verizon V3m.

Thank you SO much in advance if there is anything you can do.

Zach

ok, I have, after about SIX HOURS, connected the phone and edited back to the original seems for the Verizon Wireless banner. I know that there is a warning posted about seem edits in general, but you should add something to that particular seem edit about staying within the Verizon Wireless and not going beyond it or before it...or else it could lead to major trouble.

But believe it or not...I STILL want to mod this phone.

The problem is that now when I connect it to my computer, Motorola Software Update does not recognize it as connected and windows XP says that "One of your USB devices has malfunctioned and windows can no longer recognize it. Click here for more info". I did click, and it said that I would have to replace it or try reconnectiong, which obviously I tried numerous times. Motorola Phone Tools does not recognize my phone either.

Anybody?

Zach

Okay I have a problem. I am showing the seem is edited, I have gone to check it twice. I have turned off the power, taken out the battery and everything. But my Motorola Phone Tools is not allowing me to add screen savers or anything like that kind of media. Am I doing something wrong?

There is a warning to not deleting anything before the "V" and after the "S". I can send you a link to it if you so desire.

Try shutting the phone off, then connect it and let it try and install thje drivers. that shopuld correct any pproblems.

Okay so I have been doing this all day now. I have edited the seem several times. When I load it from the phone all the edits are still there. I have removed the batter for thirty minutes then tried to get it to work again, but I still do not have the icon for the multimedia. I have updated my phone tools to all current... This is what I am getting. Can someone help

You have to go into settings and "change modem" to V3mm and not V3m - either that or do the other seem edit to set the V3m as V3mm
Mark V has the best seem edit guides if this one wasn't complete (I haven't read the begining of this thread in a while, so I forget):

what, seem editing? You can NOT.

The tools/programs to seem edit only work under REAL windows.

There is moto4lin that people are working on, and while it does support GSM phones... last I looked, it still didn't work with CDMA phones... so it wont work with the V3C/V3M or other verizon phones.

Posted by: swanamaker

When originally searching this forum, my intent was to be able to create my own ring tone and transfer it to my V3m. Thanks to you, Mark, I was able to do that, as well as other enable other handy features such as the "vibrate then ring" option (WHY in the world would Verizon disable this?).

Your instructions were extremely easy to follow and implement. I used a combination of the following tools to accomplish this task:

Motorola Update
PKSeem
Drivertool
BitPim
Audacity
Lame
AVI Splitter
AimOne Audio/Video to MP3/WAV Conveter

The ringtone I wanted to create is the theme song to a TV show. I had to download the show using bittorrent, split the AVI so I only got the portion of the video with the song on it, convert than AVI to an MP3 that Audacity could read. Use Audacity/Lame to covert the MP3 to usable file in Midi format, and then use BitPim to transfer it to my phone. Thanks Verizon for making this whole process WAY more complex than it needs to be.

Mark, you are awesome - thanks for helping newbies like me to do what Verizon apparently thinks should not be done.

Pelicanmaster, should this work with the v325? I'm hoping to transfer photos from my camera phone to my PC. Looks complicated but your instructions are clear.

Thanks,

I have used MPT 4.21a and PST with PKseem to edit 2 V3m's last week without incident. Today though I tried to do the same for my buddies V3m and I can't get windows to recognize it as a motorola modem. I've reinstalled the driver tool and tried everything i can think of, and still windows tells me it cannot install software for this device.

Now if I plug in my phone it works fine and installs the driver for the phone as a modem. The only difference I can see is that I edited my phone identifier to v3mm. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I then installed driver tool 4.21a on another pc and still the phone won't get recognized as a modem, is this some setting verizon ****ed with?

Anyone? Someone must have had this issue?

99.9% of the V3m/V3c users post/read in the Verizon > Motorola forum, not this forum.

Have you tried going to the Change Modem menu and selecting the V3mm instead of the V3m?

Try going into C:\Windows\inf and look through all the oem*.inf files. (You may have to show hidden and system files in your Folder Options to see them.) In any that mention Motorola or USB Composite Device, select all the text and erase it, then save the file.

Now when you attach your phone again, it'll ask you where to install your drivers from rather than pulling bad ones from its cache.

Try these if you don't have any extracted ones:

When you plug the phone/cable into a different USB Port, you'll need to re-install the drivers.. so when you first plug the phone in, you'll need to re-install the drivers. When you launch PST, it will need you to go through installing those drivers again...

Often times with PST.. it will ask you for the drivers EACH TIME you start it... even when you use the same port...

that has nothing to do with it.

No. But if you tried PST on the other PC, and just unplugged the phone without powering of/on, the phone could be in the state PST wants it in, rather than the "default" Moto USB Modem mode...

PS.. try unplugging the phone... pull the battery... replace the battery... and try again... WITH ALL APPS CLOSED in windows, it should see the phone as Moto USB Modem.. if it doesn't... try a different USB port.. and make sure you are using one that is built into the PC's system board!

I have performed the seem edit and I can see and open the media part of MPT when setting it as the 323m. I can not however transfer any files. After MPT loads the media thing it loses the connection to the phone. I have also used the edited driver that was mentioned earlier in this thread. Has anyone else had this problem? I hope someone can help me out, cause I believe I've done everything right.

Well I kinda feel stupid now, I went and double checked if the seem edit worked and it didn't so i seem edited it again and it works great.

But hey thanks for all of the instructions that allowed me to get it working.

How do I setup phone seem edit for the scroll missed callls feature

On the E815, when there is a missed call showing on your display, you can press the volume key down to scroll thru the missed calls. And if your BT headset is On and connected, pressing the speakerphone button will call the number showing.
If there is no missed call showing on the display, then you cannont scroll thru the missed calls.

I'm not sure if that is how it works on the V3m though - but I would assume it is the same. No seem edit is needed to do this on the E815 - it is like that by default.

Hello everyone.

I was hoping to maybe get some advice on the seem edit here if you dont mind.

I got a new Motorola V3M Last night from Circuity City. The provider is Verizon, which apparently from what I am reading has bastardized the phone in such a way that you cant add your own ringtones and images , in thier attempt to seperate you from your almighty dollar.

I have been reading this forum for about 8 hours now. I have printed directions, and made sure to check twice. I am confident I am performing the steps right however, it seems as though, when I apply the seem edits, (
By actually clicking save to phone ) they seem to just not " take "

I am using the pre-edited seems that Mark Venture has on his page.

I knwo this forum was the idiots giude , and it shoudl be simple. I hate to sound like such a worthless new NEWB, however I just dont get what i could be doing wrong.

I have the Motorola MSU Running, it dispplays the ESN - Minus the carrier info etc.

I honeslty woudl be more than grateful for any guidance you could lend me.

Thank you !

Mike J.

When you click "load from phone" does it work? Does the seem get loaded up in p2kseem?
If it does "load from phone", are the seem edits you've done there, or are they back to their default values?
After loading to phone, did you turn off the phone?

Posted by: JesterMikeJones

I apologize for my repost here, however, I did finnaly get things working. I misread one step.

You guys are fooking amazing.

Thank you SO much for helping me get past verizons stupidity !

Posted by: tcflint

I was working with some of the mods as I did with my V265 and may have wiped one of the seems out.

I was trying to reload my original 2742_0001 and it may have went to P2K's default 041a_0001???

The buggy result is when I go to "Initial Setup" it won't let me in.

Could some one send me the 041a_0001 seem, or am I going the wrong way???

I followed the tutorial.. And it worked fine for a while..Until today.
The Motorolla Tools updated and now I dont have the media center or whatever its called anymore
I cant put new songs, pics etc in my phone anymore
Does anybody know why it doesnt work anymore?
Or have a solution for it...

Posted by: dvpatel

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the OP and Mark for all their efforts. I was scared about doing SEEM Edits. But now, I have done the RIngtones, the File Transfer in MPT and the V3MM Edits. They are very easy. I should have done this 4 months ago when I got the wife the V3M.

So, again thanks a lot guys.

I am a total nubie when it comes to flashing phones so take this with a grain of salt. You haven't mentioned the phone model but I think you used the over-ride in the phone tools and chose the M version of your phone (e.g you chose v3mM manually) which might have gotten reset. I just did the v3mM SEEM Edit and so future MPT upgrades shouldn't cause me trouble I think. So, how about you do the same and SEEM Edit the phone to add the last M to your model?

...Thanks for this thread!

Loox simple enough. I'm gonna give it a go when I get home tonight.

Can I also say, it chaps my arse, that I hafta hack my phone to get MPT to work so I can transfer ringtones / pix to and from my phone? Thanks for nothin' Verizon!

Ive found the only way to Re-Enable the "Initial Setup" window being gone is through a "Master Clear" AND "Master Reset" after restoring the original Seem

Ive also found that the "Enable Missed Call Scroll" does not work...

Ive also found out that you are totally ****ed if you accidentally try to skin your phone (not heeding all the warnings telling you not to) though i WAS able to fix my phone afterwards

Ive found that 99 percent of people who cant get Bitpim, P2k Commander, or a SEEM editing program to work right are forgetting to let MSU or PST be up, loaded, and STILL RUNNING in the backround for the entirety of the operation you want to do (these programs basically enable a "data" mode type transfer (the p2k mode) that allows for phone changes that arent typical to normal operation)

Ive found 5 different ways to get Music FROM my computer TO my phone (after enabling various Verizon SEEM hack's to do so)

I also hate verizon quite a bit for making all this so difficult, just to try and make a few bucks off of joe schmo whose gonna pay a dollar a song for ringtones, pix, ect

You can skin a Verizon RAZR too, but not with regular Motorola skins. Check here:
