I'm a new user on these forums.

I'm going to buy a Sidekick 3 because it would seem to suits my needs well. I have a question though, Since I'm going pre-pay what will i need (besides the phone)? How much is the activation kit? do i need to get it? Any hidden charges? How is the coverage in California?

Well, those are the questions i have for now.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums...

You will need to get the Sidekick 3 (available July 10th for pre pay)

How much is the activation kit? do i need to get it?
Usually it's $25, yes you will need to get it. Since pre pay requires and activation code that comes in the kit.
Any hidden charges? How is the coverage in California?

Not. Just a $1 a day for unlimited data& SMS. Phone calls are extra (see Tmobiles website for rates) Coverage is Pretty good. Although my SK3 has been having issues holding on to signal. I think this is due to the EDGE. (There might be a thread or 2 about it, if you have questions you can check those)
Well, those are the questions i have for now.

Thanks in advance.

Cool, so around 450. one more question, Do i need to buy minutes in order to keep my number? All I'm gonna use it for is aim, browsing, etc.

Yes when you get low, you will need to re add money. You can do it with a debit card, or go to a cell phone store and get them (if you do this, you can only pay with cash)

I have more questions! Heh, i like to be SURE before i buy. It's about coverage, except this time its more specific.

How good is the coverage in Salinas? Monterey? San Jose? I NEED to know these things because the phrase 'coverage [in california] is pretty good' isn't accurate enough. My brother in law says that customers have had dead areas in salinas.

Insurance, how much?
My parent's think it's a waste of money. Have any points i can counter with :P . Oh well, if things don't go well I'll just return it in/before 14 days.

I believe they don't offer insurance with pre-paid phones.
