Damn....$140

Posted by: phone_fanatic

That's for the 8800. As far I know there are little variations between the 8800 and 8801.

no need to apologize.. you should try to stop the order, because it won't fit. Just trying to help you out, and also give the correct information thats all.

I just went to my neighbor an indirect he has both.. there is no difference in size at all.. just the bands like i said one is an asia model the 8800 (900/1800/1900) and the 8801 (850/1800/1900) is the north america model. and Cnn.cn just responded it would fit..

Posted by: JwY

no, they are physically different
ask carmovies, he got a 8801 crammed into an 8800 body
takes a little modification of sorts

Posted by: ~W~

Good luck!

Nokia 8801 4.21" x 1.77" x 0.74"

Nokia 8800 4.2" x 1.8" x 0.6"

Well hope it fits!!

Posted by: phone_fanatic

^^Yea specially when he paid $130 for it.

Posted by: ts

elzein - your pretty stubborn, were trying to save you $130 +S&H. It won't fit, this has been discussed many times before. There are numerious pictures that the size difference is very obvious.

some people just refuse to believe the truth

located at the bottom of this writing is a photo of a

Nokia 8801
above a
Nokia 8800

Please take note on the different sizes of the black antenna part

THEY ARE DIFFERENT SIZES - 8801 IS LARGER therefore, like someone posted above, you would have to modify it and cram it in. The silver metal part at the back is of a larger nature as well. LOOK!

If you dont believe so, just ask carsmovies and he'll tell you

pic courtesy of evilgabbie that i found in a posting in another blog.

Posted by: phattbam

hhaaha.. perhaps.. I'm gonna take a stab at it. I didnt pay too much for mine but the condition of the current one without it's original battery cover isn't any better.

Posted by: phone_fanatic

Yea an update or something would be nice mate.

Posted by: ~W~

I'm thinking of the nk 8800 and buying a black housing... How hard is changing out the parts, looking at the sliding mechanism, looks challenging...?

Posted by: phattbam

If you need the video on disassembling the nokia 8800, I have it DLed from another member off HoFo. I think it was Donnation that posted it. do a quick search or PM me. still waiting for mine to come in before I 'try' it.. although I've been told the antenna's are different I'm gonna take a crack at it anyways.

Posted by: ~W~

just realized that there are 4 colors...

silver
silver-black
black
gold....

i rather have the black version and not the cheap silver-black on ebay

Posted by: phattbam

how different is the silver-black vs black? silver-black = gunmetal like? black = solid black?

Posted by: phone_fanatic

Got any pics...? They should make them special for the 8801's also..cauz I think that would be better.

Posted by: ~W~

From looking at the pictures, silver - black is a darker silver brsh aluminum style while black, is gloss black...

I say thats a big difference...

Posted by: phattbam

here's what I won off of eBay. for the price I got it at, it's not that bad. Just concerned the housing swap won't work. Also the screen surround will still be silver/chrome unless I order it off of cnn

Posted by: phone_fanatic

^How much did you pay for it bud? Also how hard if the swap? Is it possible to do it yourself sorta thing?

disappointed in the seller. Thought I would get it within a week but they ran out of stock and had to ship it from overseas. I'm hoping to get it by the end of this week. I have the disassembly video that Donnation posted. "looks" easy but I can't vouch yet. I'll give it a go once they come in and hopefully it's possible.

Posted by: phone_fanatic

Ok well let me know....then maybe I can think about this too. I deffinately wouldn't go gold..but black maybe...

ALSO
Do they make these PARTICULARLY for the 8801's? Because I don't wanna like 'bend' and stuff the phone so that I can fit the housing. I have the disassembly video saved as well.

Posted by: ~W~

Posted by: phattbam

rumor has it that there will be a black 8801 that should be releasing soon.

Posted by: ~W~

Posted by: phattbam

Posted by: shaolinmonk

so how does the gold look? anybody ever do this on the 8800? how is the housing quality? how does it look? is the gold nasty?

Posted by: patsc23

so any of u guys know if they ever released an 8801 black housing?

Posted by: skatistic888

Nokia NYC had a black 8801 for a short time, I guess they ran out quick..

Posted by: toose

I also want to order but can't find the way.Pls help me.

Posted by: showbow

can someone post a black housing kit for the 8801 installed?

Posted by: skatistic888

I bought a gold housing for the sirocco and had it installed and I gotta tell you, the quality is nowhere near the original, I went back to black which is the original housing it came with..

If you can't get it OEM, don't even bother with the 3rd party housings, one reason these phones are expensive: it's not the material but the housings are made very precise, OEMs fit 100% perfect and it feels natural whereas the 3rd party housings just feel flimsy

My advice: stick with whatever you've got, it's not worth taking a chance

heres my black 8801 conversion -
