Local Area WiFi and Cingular 8125

My device (Cingular 8125) connects to my local WiFi home network without any problem. Once connected with WiFi (NOT with ActiveSync USB cable), and from the 8125, going to Programs> File Explorer> Menu > Open Path and then entering \\Laptop (the name of my laptop), I can see the files in my laptop. Through File Explorer on the 8125, I can manupulate the files (i. e. copy, edit, etc.). However, I have spent many hours trying to see the 8125 from the laptop (Dual Core Toshiba XP SP2). The 8125 should show up in "My Network Places" and I have done everything to make the laptop see the device but have not succeeded yet. Can anyone help? is this a design issue with WM5? By the way, I also have a desktop connected to the network and it can't see the 8125 either!

I have spent many hours researching our forum and other forums. Every one talks about sync-ing with WiFi which I understand can not be done with WM5. I am not talking about sync-ing as in ActiveSync but just exploring the files from both sides, the 8125 side and the laptop side.

Thank you for your help.

The 8125 will not show up as a network share because it is not sharing anything. There is no way to make it share any folders.

Thank you GldRush98, that is what I thought. However, it would have been useful to use this feature to copy back and forth files (say music or photos) without having to use ActiveSync or Bluetooth.

I agree. It would be easier to do it from the computer. But at least we can still do it from the phone. Not many phones have the features of the 8125. Gotta love this phone! haha

from what i understand, microsoft removed this feature from wm5.

microsoft is always removing useful features... what a shame.

Yes it is a shame. Not to change the subject, but after upgrading to the HTC Rom, my new email, missed calls, etc. reminders will not repeat. I am using Phone Alert Lite and before upgrading to the new Rom it was working perfectly, any ideas??
