cingular features on unbranded motorola l6?

This must be covered somewhere but I haven't found it (at least, not at a "newbie" level) ... is there a way to install or activate cingular-specific features on a phone I bought over ebay? Specifically I'd like my moto l6 to autoupdate the date and time. The phone is supposed to have that capability (according to manual), but it says it is network dependent. Right now the phone doesn't give me the option -- I can only set the date and time manually (and it doesn't update whenever i change timezones). How would I go about updating phone (software? firmware?) so that it behaves like a cingular phone?

You might have to flash it to the latest firmware/flex (there are probably generic retail motorola one's floating arounf the net) Check out the motorola mods section here on HoFo or try motomodders.net they have moto firmware and P2K compatible software on the website.

theres seem edits that will enable auto update time (and a lot of other things).
