Motorola Q being released to Bell Mobility

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Yes, the news a lot of you have been waiting for. The Motorola Q is being released to Bell.

Our dealer ordering department has it listed, although I am not sure when the actual release / shipping date will be.

But it's coming for sure, guess Bell does get cool handsets, eh ?

Posted by: eal15

you mean i don't have to wait a six months for telus or a year for verizon. If Bell starts to do this with everything, why would people choose telus? Now if they only brought back unlimited data for $60!

Posted by: jase88

Hopefully the Bell version is more stable than the one Telus is selling.

Probably more a Motorola problem than anything (unless you're talking about coverage area).

People chose Telus because they had the Mighty MoTo Q & King RZR first !!

People would choose telus because they have decent customer service

I am suprised to hear that from you TZ, I would have expected to hear you ranting about how they locked out 3rd party apps, and registry edits...... I thought you were against the neutering of mobile phones. Had they not found a workaround, I imagine there would have been alot of furious Telus customers.

True ! Wait to see whats doing with Bells offering soon with Q! Lets assume Bells Q is EVDO enabled .
I am hoping to get a Nokia e61 in @ 2 weeks!! What bothers me with both of these devices is the non touch screen.
Not sure I can tolerate that as Iam a touchy feely kinda Zombie.

The rude things that have been done to my 6265i are incredible !
Sorry Telus !!

i think you will be quite impressed when you see Bell's version...it does things Telus' version only dreams about...you may be eating your words about "crippled devices on Bell"...when you compare the two, Telus' is the crippled version.

It's like the newer releases ...easily modified, now watch them make a liar out of me upon release

So you've seen/heard about the features of the Bell version already? I'd definitely be interested in picking one of these up if some of the issues with them were fixed...

I like the Q... It feels nice in my hands...

Now what will the DataPackage and Pricing be... :|

Keep hearing about the data changes, have they changed already and Bell hasn't updated the web. What are the changes? When are they changing

Hey, I just called CS to see if they knew anything about the Q. Although she was very helpful and took time to check and ask people. She came back with no information. I then called our corp guy, he wasn't in but a coworker of his said the Motorola rep was just in. I asked when they expected to see the Q. She told me that they were told "November, possibly October!" Anybody still hear August or have a more defined August date?
E

Posted by: Dreaderus

alot sooner then that, any hard release until fully announced is speculation and some of us do not want to do that to our faithful here, if you want this you will get it soon but if there is any last minute delays then no disapointments if it takes a bit longer.

1 month after Telus, you think Moto is dumb enough to not offer this to the entire CDMA market?...NOOOOOOOOOO

especially those lucrative corporate clients

Posted by: mini_diesel

I was at a store (in BC) and the rep said he had just received an email concerning the Q release. He showed me the email and it had an early August release date, but the rep said they wouldn't get it until mid August.

The prices were also about 449 (3yr), 499 (2yr), 649 (no contract).....or something along that range. I'm guessing that's without any data package plan.

Posted by: rip

wow BC is getting it that late

What'd be funny is if they're shipped through the western ports.

I wouldn't expect it until mid-August, although we do have them on order already. Most of the current promos end August 10, which would mean Back-to-School promos should be launching and the launch of the Q should fit right in.

Posted by: eal15

thanks guys i got scared there for a minute. i figured the cs rep knew more than she let on as it took her a good 20 minutes to research this for me (yes, while i waited!). does anyone know if the data rates may change.

Bell's new position as of this spring seems to be stop leading with new ideas as it doesn't really get it anywhere, instead, it seems to be taking a page from the gasoline industry in being "competitive".

i.e. matching everyone else at the same time so they can get in on the consumer screw over fun.

Posted by: chuck232

Sheesh $649? I thought this was supposed to be undercutting the BB's in cost? Wonder what happens when Research in Motion releases their multimedia (and I hear slimmer) BB's in October/November (I got an almost confirmed November launch date)... This'll hardly be worth the premium then.

I guess the short battery life of the Moto Q is a real problem.

Verizon is selling the Moto Q for us$270 on a two year term.
Then you can buy an extra extended battery for 60% off at us$19.99.

I wonder if Bell Mobility will be smart enough to do this to overcome
disappointment with bad battery life.

Often when Verizon groups complain of bad battery times, it's linked to people buying an EVDO device in a non-evdo market. Verizon doesn't care and will gladly sell you an EVDO device even if you're nowhere near an EVDO market -
and customers, for the most part, put up with it!

Hi, has anyone heard of an update?
Tx!

As a Telus guy I would too. i can't see much missing from mine.

Fully BT - Check
RF Performance - Check
Sound Quality - Check
Push Email/contacts/calander - Check
Watching full lenght movies with memory card - check
Battery time after a few charges OK. I have been watching videos and listening to music all day. Chatting on MSN. Talking to clients and am still down only down one bar. Oh yah, bluetooth running the whole time.

So what features is bell expecting to launch that will add anything substantial?

Posted by: mcfz

If Bell can just get the bloody in to production maybe we will know

lol

Bell will be offering IP based push email, as opposed to the "leave your computer on, and outlook open to forward email" system Telus uses, and it will be using a newer version of the operating system with a new security enhancement from MS (which I'm sure will be released to Telus as well as a software upgrade)

I'm guessing this may have a lot to do with the recent press release regarding the adoption of "Good Technology" Push Email service?

Will it have Wi-fi? I read the GSM version that comes out around Christmas will have wifi.

So Verizon is getting the BB 8703 early next year or maybe December. That said I don't see Canada getting it until after that. Should be a great device. Who know when the or which Treo 700 is coming. I have used both device, very nice. Personally I can't wait for the Q. It all depends what you like or which platform you prefer. Another site for the Q popped up. In addition to Qusers.com we now have everythingq.com. This site is run by the same guy who runs everythingtreo.com. He's had that one for years. He compared the treos to the Q and is sold. Not saying that it is a better device just that what it is, a window mobile 5 for smarphone, it takes the cake. He is nw using that over his treo. Again not that one is better but when you look at the size get used to using the menus instead of the stylus, the same goals are achieved in half the size. Check out his review and remember he had been using a Treo exclusively for years and until now has only promoted treos! He gave it 4 out of 5 stars!

I decided I needed to have a hands on with the Motorola Q so I went to a Telus store this past weekend. To say the least, I'm sort of disappointed with it. The main problem I had was the sort of 'cheap' feel of the phone. Even the buttons didn't have much tactile feedback when I pressed them. Perhaps that's because they've been so overused since it was the demo unit, but it definitely didn't leave me overly excited...

Insiders, any updates on the Q???

not really.....

quick question does bell do the same thing as telus where u have to add a data plan for at least 20$ to get a data device?

Not if you do a Full Price MTM buyout and pay for the instore ESN change, just remember data will be charged per kb.

HI,
I have Razr with Bell. I am verry satisfied with it but I want to get more functions out of my phone. I dont know if It is better to wait for the Q or to go ahead and buy the UTStarcom PPC6700. It is bigger but has some advantages that the Q doesnt. What do you guys think, especially since I dont know when Bell will be getting it

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

bell will be getting the Q very soon...we got our sample models in today.

The6700 has WiFi if you don't need it then it's the Q.

hi, i certainly not doubting you but your london store has a sample for customer to look at? that's 3-4 weeks before anyone here says when bell will get it at the earliest. i hope this means a couple of weeks at most. also, did they happen to mention if they locked off anything?

most stores here in the GTA were visited by their friendly Moto rep...i was told ETA end of Aug but naturally that's not set in stone, btw the store doesn't usually show most customers anything till launch...it's just i've dealt with this store for over what? 8+years i can't remember, goes back to "the talker" by moto days.

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

the "dummy models" usually show up a couple of weeks prior to release...things can still be delayed, that being said, it looks like a pretty slick unit...if it performs as good as it looks, it's going to be tough to sell the 6700.

Posted by: Lenrage

Anybody know if the treo 700w will come for Bell mobility

WiFi users and a bigger keyboard for blind users like myself, that's why the BB7250 is still a good trade off may not have WM5 but it does everything else extremely well....

but as you said, a really slick model...some people over at Telus say it's cheap vs the BB, i think the colour has a lot to do with it...same plastivc as far as i can tell.

meh...the keys are fairly similar to the ones on a 7250 (meaning they are definitely better than a Treo 650)...and personally, i think the 6700 feels like a toy...i am curious to see the "sliders" come in for repair, especially considering that most of the owners of them will be heavy users.

Posted by: danlauz

so, the Q will not have wi-fi ? by the way, how much of public locations in canada (airport...) offer FREE wi-fi internet connection ?

if you would be ready to go to the Q or another model, would you use Bell or wait in 6 months when we will be able to keep our phone numbers ??

ps: I have a business account with bell, 2 cell on the account and we are bill at the seconds since.... more than 10 years. what is the best strategy if I call them and ask their best deal on a Q (or similar) with a 3 years contract?

last year, they start to charge me the express box (which was FREE since 10 years) because I did refused to move from billing at the second to MINUTE.

I am not very often on the road or on travel but, when I travel , I will like to have the possibility to use internet and have e-mail. what do you suggest me ?

Posted by: rip

WiFi is rarely free in the GTA area.

There is no WiFi on the Q.

I'm not a Bell employee so i can't comment on your account other than a 2 cell account hardly makes a dent in their corporate revenues, i say just call in and cross your fingers.

*note* To have a discount on a data product by resigning a contract, you'll more than likely also have to add a data plan.

Don't know where you've been but Hydro is planning a GTA wide roll out of WiFi...not free of course.
