8125 now, or wait?

First, I'm disgusted with my Razr, I've had it since the launch and it's on it's 4th battery.

I was all set to get a 8125 the other day, so I can get "real" web browsing (monitor my ebay stores, and email, etc) but seeing the new TyTN/Hermes I'm wondering if I should wait. Anyone have any thoughts on how soon we'll see the new unit in the USA? The HTC Europe site says in Europe @ the end of July.

I'd like to get the newer unit with the faster processor and newer features, but don't want to wait 6 months before I get out of this razr.

Was thinking of the Nokia 9300, but I've written code for Symbian before, and it's not my favorite, I'd rather a fast WM device.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Wait!
There's a new version the "Hermes" or "HTC TyTN" that will be coming out in a few months which is much like the 8125 but with 3G high speed data.

Just as stated above...I would wait.

As I thought.

Thanks a lot.

Any thoughts on how long I'm going to be waiting? Is there usually a certain time Cingular launches devices, or are they more of a "when they come in, we sell them" kinda thing?

Thx

I just bought an 8125, so I'd say get it now. Never know how long it's going to take Cingular to actually release a newer pda phone.

the hermes is a bit thinner and has a better camera too. and has a few extra things like a jogwheel and two extra buttons

I agree. Especially since you're unhappy with your current phone. If you were happy with what you have, I'd probably say wait.....but you don't seem to be.
I've had my 8125 for 4 days and love it!

get the 8125. There is always gonna be new **** comming out. I remember when the razr was 500 dollars. Now look how easy that piece of **** is to get.

The looks pretty sweet. I would say get the 8125 now. U kno the price is gonna be high for the TyTN at launch.

I found this lil review page on it. It had to be translated. TyTN Review

The difference between the 8125 and Hermes isn't just latest and greatest. The Hermes is WCDMA (and GSM,) Cingular's new network while the 8125 GSM only. Considering most poeople upgrade once every 2 years when they get the equipment upgrade discount, wouldn't you want the WCDMA capable phone in 1-2 years from now rather than be stuck with GSM? The difference is braodband data vs. DSL speed data. The Hermes should be capable of data/voice simultaneously as well as video calls. Not to mention 3G streaming video. We're talking a pretty huge leap in upgrade.
It would be like buying a TDMA phone 2 years ago.

True there's always something better coming, but the Hermes should be here in a few months. I guess it depends how badly you need a new phone today.
The 8125 is great, but will the price really be much cheaper?

If you just want a great phone with a web browser and email, then go for the 8125. But if you want to know what's coming, you know.
There will be Palm as well as the Moto Q later this year as well (also WCDMA) but those are going to be like November/December if we're lucky. And I don't think they're worth the wait.

Yeah, that's why I was thinking of waiting. I hate the contracts and having to pay $700+ for a phone when I should've just waited always gets me PO'd.

However, the email I got back from HTC today didn't sound too optimistic. They claimed that they couldn't disclose the carriers that would have the unit (no surprise, NDA and all), but also that it wouldn't be out until "late this year". With my time in the industry, that statement usually means "We hope to have it by the Christmas sale frenzy, but might not."

After more thought, I'm not going to buy an 8125 unless I get one cheap on ebay or something, I can't see paying and locking into a contract for a 200mhz processor, my Dell Axim i've had for years outclasses that @ over 400mhz, and it seems slow at times.

Thanks everyone.
