Couldn't find much on this... Could I get rid of my cable internet at home, pay the $40 for unlimited data on alltel, then connect my treo to the comp and have internet at both(not dialup)?

I dont think your alltel data connected would come close to your cable speeds. The answer to your question is yes. Just get shadowmite's DUN over bluetooth patch or buy PDA net. Try it out before you cancel anything. When you give it a try i'm pretty sure you will want to keep your cable internet. Does this help you out any?

Also, check Altel's TOS. If they say you're not allowed to use your phone for DUN, then they'd probably get suspicious if you started using large amounts of data every month, and could possible cut you off.

I wouldn't even think about this unless Alltel has EVDO in your area. Otherwise, you're be getting barely better than dialup on 1xRTT.

uh...it might be a stupid question but does the treo 650 support ev-do? if not, then even if alltel does have it, then it wouldn't do him any good.

Good point... 650 isn't Ev-DO. You'd be getting 2x dialup at best. I don't know how much your cable internet costs, but $40 a month for faster dialup isn't worth it IMO.
