Will Changing the OEM Headset to Better ones improve MP3?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was just wondering if any 903 users have compared the sound quality between the OEM Stereo Headset with other models - either D.I.Y a higher end headset for use with 903 or using the optional model from Sharp?

I am a bit dissapointed with the Bass quality, but overall it is okay but not good enuff....makes me want to swap to SE Walkman - but then I loved my 903 so much doh.....

I bought a headphone adapter for my 903sh and connected my Sony Fontopia earbuds to it. I instantly found it to be better sounding and totally think its worth the $10 bucks I spent on it. Its worth giving a try

Hey thanks mate! that gave me ideas to D.I.Y my 3.5 headphone jack for my 903 - then I can use some juicy Mega Bass earpiece then hahahaha

you can use alomst any kidn of headphones to produce better sound. i use bose noise cancelling ones when i use my lcd remote

Posted by: Kevbodian

dont forget however that some headphones will have a higher impedance than others and will require a higher output from the music device in order to power them.

so my 16ohm buds might be loud enuff, my 32ohm grados dont cut it :'(

Based on this D.I.Y Guide I have modded mine and it worked!!!

It took me less than 15 mins and now I am enjoying FULL Stereo with Thumping BASSes!

How my rig looked like now:

And I was just using a rather cheap but good Philips earbuds, later I plan to get those Sony Fontopia or TDK

Whoa, good job EFN! Definetly looks like you did a quality job there. Btw, Fontopia's are awesome

Posted by: Eyies

Awesome EFN, but isn't the cord kinda.. overly long past the mic, since the mic was meant to be hanging around under your shoulders... don't you have tons of excess cord?

Posted by: gizmoboy

kewlness! you should go get one of those nice earphones with 0.5m cords.

Posted by: scotttttttttt

Yeah a lot of the Sony fontopia range have the option for 0.5m cord.

Posted by: EFN

Hey, THANX you all.

Ah yess, I ahve that small problem with long cords now - but I am not too bothered with it, considering that I am getting really enjoyable Full Stereo with rich Bass (my Philips earpiece is optimized for Bass).

But a 0.5 cord sounds good. The best thing is that I get to choose whichever cord that I want now hahaha.

Cheers!

The in-ear fontopias kick *** for bass too.

Posted by: Eyies

Thinking of maybe doing this.. I saw some adapters at a cell phone place for sale.. for $10 >__>;.

Posted by: sketch143

question.. fontopias have uneven cords? i know there's one fontopia earphones that are for remotes and such.. but the uneven cord thing pisses me off

Posted by: Eyies

Haha should do a poll on, even vs uneven headphone cord

Posted by: scotttttttttt

yeah they have uneven cords. the idea is that you put the cord around your neck and hang the right ear bud down if you're not wearing it. i acutally love the concept. ^^

Posted by: sketch143

i don't.. haha.. i love the even ones.. matter of preference i guess.. and yes, i'm not that dumb to not know why it's uneven. -.-

Precisely why I was forced to mod my existing Sharp cords. I searched over Ebay and cant find one ready made (tons for Nokia and SE tho hahahaha).

It's so easy to mod anyway.

anywho, the point is that any upgrade in headphones should give you better mp3 audio quality; however, things like volume may not be the greatest.

greatest = ipod shuffle. amazing product really. high output without distortion or audio quality loss.

Actually Kev, now with my current setup after mod, I am running volume at half only (7bars) and it's LOUD and good! Previously I have to tweak the vol all the way up almost full bars! and it resulted in noises.

hi, if you check the 904sh english manual at http://www.vodafone.jp/english/prod...ucts_option.pdf
you will find:
Analog conversion cable [ZTPH02] ¥1,050 incl. tax
Allows you to connect your favorite headphones.

It is exactly what you have described. a lot of this stuff is sold here in Japan, for NTT Docomo and Vodafone 3G. Apparently this cable is compatible with all of Vodafone's 3G fones, and also Docomo FOMA fones.

dont forget the headphone adapter at daiso for $2.13

if the cable is compatible with different phones, then the plug in slot must be all the same for 903 and 703sh/shf, which is good, cuz i just bought one off ebay, prob some generic crap but chyea wuteva
