Formatting a new memory card ?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello all- I am going to get a larger capacity micro SD card for my 770SH but I believe the card will have to be formatted.
There is an option in the phone under settings to format a memory card, is this the way to do it or is there a better way, perhaps using a computer ?
I'm not exactly sure what to do.

Cheers, LL-

If you're going to do it in a computer.. make sure you select the FAT option, and not FAT32.

Is there a difference whether you do it on a computer or in the phone itself ? Will the card just end up formatted the same way either way ?

I think so, but I'm not 100% sure.

i think you have more control of formatting on the computer than on the phone. i would do it on the pc first.

Yeah format it on a PC with the FAT file system, then get the phone to do it too so all the directory structure gets created properly.

What size card are you getting by the way?

I'm gonna go for the 1G Al.
From all accounts it should be able to support it, if not I'll just have to live with a 512, but I'll let you know for sure whether the 1G works !!
Cheers for all the information, I will format on the computer first.

arent mini SD cards "pre-formatted" when you buy them? i got a 1GB card and formatted it from the phone right away. it works fine when used via phone or PC.
