Moto E-815 BackLight/Battery Issue??

Ever since Sun my Moto of not even a year has been acting funny. For some weird reason the backlight on my phone seemed to go out. Then when powering down and up again the screen turned to a plain white color. Then repeating the process goes back dark.
Then yesterday my battery was low, so I turned it off and back on again and the screen was ok. Then when I went to charge it up and it went back to it's funny ways again.
Is this a battery issue? Weird how when it's low it seems to be ok and when charged it's broken.
Will Verizon cover this since it's supposedly under warranty with Moto or will I need to file a insurance claim?
