Hi there..
Anyone, feel free to intervene if I'm losing my mind, but I don't beleive that you can compress a .wav file. Like .aiff, .wav is literally, raw, analog audio that is different from .mp3, or .aac. Unfortunatly, the only way to 'compress' a wav, is in essence, to encode it into mp3 or aac, etc. The reason that these files are so much smaller, is that they are actually viewed as data by a computer, unlike wav which is still seen as analogous, and takes up huge amounts of space.
What you must do if you would like to use a particular sound or your ringtone, is to try and trim it more, or remove some of the quality of the wav file. Of course, this is only if converting the file is not an option.
Try and find a sound editing program like Sony's (Adobe's?) Sound Forge and convert the .wav file to either a) a different bit rate, which will degrade quality a tad, but make the file size smaller, or b) tr to convert the sample rate.. the problem with this method is that by doing so, it may change the tonal quality of the sample, and possibly even the pitch.
I could be worng about this, as I haven't actually had to do this for quite some years, but I do know that it is an option, and you certainly can lower the size this way.
Hope this helps!
