Questions about trying to fix my v3...

Hello all, my razr v3 is really screwed up. One of the hinges is slightly off and so it doesn't close fully sometimes. Not to mention I have accumulated a huge amount of dust and sand under the screen that it is hard to view it. Am I wrong to assume opening my phone will void my warranty? Even if I did use my warranty (I assume it is 1 year) it wouldn't even cover this physical damage. Should I open my phone anyways?
I know how to clean the screen; however, can someone give me advice on how to fix the hinge? I don't think anything is broken (but I could be wrong) but just off the track. Any ideas or suggestions?
