woohoo!

Posted by: porpackage

Too bad it only ships within the USA....... no international shipping.... I am from Canada... and you cant seem to order it from the sony ericsson canadian site.

Posted by: varunreddy

Nice I think I'll get it frm there. Hopefully it will come soon. Do u know if u need to get a contract with a cellular company or something to buy it

Posted by: Tristero

I'm placing an order now. They're expecting shipment in 2-4 weeks. Which suggests that release date of March for T-Mobile was right on.

Bah, ok, they have a shipping presence in California, so the price with tax & Fedex comes out to $712.

May as well order from hk-mobile.com....

Posted by: bakouras

Nope, that's a sim-free unlocked phone.

So if t-mobile ends up carrying it they should charge much less than that price (but judging from t-mobile's phone prices, I don't think that they'll do that). Maybe $500 if we are lucky.

Woohoo! Nice, now this is what I'm waiting for... Finally...

I noticed on the site they only offer Silver/White? Hrmm but I thought the p800 only comes in Electric Blue? Is there pictures of the silver/white version? I want to see what it looks like...

All the pictures, including of the silver/white, shows the same as now, with blue.

But, from the P800 site there, I quote:

Just in case the camera isn't entertainment enough, the P800 comes fully equipped with games, a video clip viewer and enough customizable features to keep you happy for weeks

I guess that means our fun ends about now ???

Thanks !!! I thought maybe the fun expires after "weeks"

Posted by: digitalic

so is this phone on SE's site the Silver/White edition or the Electric Blue one? It looks like the electric blue to me, I would really wanna see how the Silver/White one looks like...

Posted by: jpmotdyn

I just spoke to a SE rep and they said the phone wont be available for purchase on their site but will only be available through the certain carriers. I dont know if he was just BS'ing me but i asked him why it was on their site for purchase and all he said was," No phones can be purchased through the SE site."

Posted by: Al In EFX

SE reps are moron's....website dev team and CSR's are totally not in sync with what the other is doing.... they outsource their online sales trugh a distributor.... thats why he probably doesnt know anything about what you were telling him (no surprise there!)

Posted by: varunreddy

I spoke to a se rep yesterday. Called the contact number on the shopwireless.sonyericsson.com . First the guy said we dont usually sell phones directly. But when I told him it was on their website he check and apologised. He said that the phones they sell will be unlocked and that the eta on the p800s is begining of march

Posted by: raviarora

Well, lets say we buy phones from SE's website. They are confirming now that they can deliver the phone by feb end. If we activate this phone on t-mobile and run into any problems or patches - will t-mobile support the phone.

Can't wait to get my hands on the phone...

Thanks bakouras for the heads-up... I just confirmed my order for 2 P800s. One for my son (its a present) and one for U-Rs truly... can't wait!

This should spark my interest in the forum again Mark... I know you'll read this. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you, He He. I know I'll want a Bluespoon to go with this.

Posted by: Bengalboy

Way to go 3VW! Your son is going to "Pumped" about his new toy and Dad will certainly be "Occupied for Months" with his. If you could stay as entertained with the V70 for as long as you did, wait until you start to use the features and power of this phone! Let me know when you get it and be sure to upgrade your carrier internet plan so that you will be able to start using it out of the box.

Posted by: vwvwvw

Hi ya Mark,

I haven't been following all the latest info about the P800 that's been covered here but I've read enough to be wondering what SW version I'll be receiving on these 2 phones. I hope not to have issues with BT (especially with the Bluespoon) and its functions because that’s something you know is important to me.
I've struggled to long with that "Leader of BT" Moto (sarcasm needed) and now look forward to full fledge BT (without dongle ala V70 + Jabra) operation.

Posted by: Bengalboy

I would bet that you will receive "RB1" installed, which is the version that was on all commercially released P800s. The "R1D" firmware was just officially released last week so it is doubtful that anyone receiving a commercail P800 right now would come with it. But, you might get lucky. As for upgrading, I would definitely do it if bluetooth operation is your primary concern. The "R1D" makes the interaction between headset and phone much faster and all features work with a few additional. (P800 actually controls the volume of the Bluespoon Headset internally). It also refines bluetooth transfers between other devices and PCs. I would recommend sending to LvWireless or Robb upon receipt and before you start loading yours up with a bunch of stuff. Hopefully, it will come with "R1D".

Posted by: WoeDee

I read a report which mentioned that all units produced on or after 03w04 will ship with R1D factory-installed.

Posted by: vwvwvw

I won't keep my fingers crossed but I'll surly say my prayers!

Posted by: varunreddy

I just convinced my parents to let me place the order
Spoke to a rep to place it cause i needed to ship it to a different address than the billing address but he said since its over 500 dollars they cant and then also faxed me a credit card authorisation form to sign. I dont think I've ever done all this to buy something on the web. Anyway cant wait to get my hands on it hopefully they get it soon and hopefully they have the latest firmware

Next i have to convince them to let me get a bluespoon

Posted by: vwvwvw

In 30yrs of MasterCarding (its not a gold card but it actually says cardmember since 1973) I've never had to sign for a (over the phone order) authorization either. But with all the fraud that's prevalent today polices are a changing. When I called SE Wireless Solutions I was told that all CC orders for the P800 (internet included) would require a signature!

Posted by: strat

In reading SE's terms and conditions it appears that handset sales are final. Only defective units are exchanged.

Did I miss read the terms and conditions?

Posted by: vwvwvw

I have read SE's (Wireless Solutions) policy and had it re-read to me over the phone by a (very friendly… I might add) CS supervisor who took my order and confirmed that there is a 30 day money back guarantee. The conditions are that the phone MUST be in resellable condition and be sent back with all packaging contents when it's returned. If they find that the phone is NOT in resellable condition or contents are missing they will return the phone and not issue a refund. This is my understanding.

Interesting site
Anyway try again most people can post links if not post it without the www and .com we can add that.
Also if SE is selling for 650 y would anyone want to buy from a third party for more

Posted by: Tr0LL

"Also if SE is selling for 650 y would anyone want to buy from a third party for more"

Answer:
Because it's not really in stock yet. who knows when it will be "in stock"... "They're expecting shipment in 2-4 weeks." if this info is correct, that's still quite a while to wait... Plus, they have delayed the release for this phone many times so who knows how valid their claim is. Hehehe... Also by the time it's in stock, perhaps the MARKET price will be even lower...

You can get a P800 for like $750 after shipping right now through many different reputable ebay sellers... Or $800 through that shop I guess... So it's only like $100 more (on a $650+ phone that's not THAT much premium to get it NOW).

There's your answer..... Not to mention, if you are in a state that charges tax the total comes to $712 after shipping like that one guy said, which is barely lower than $750-$800. Did I mention you get it NOW?? 2-4 weeks is so long to wait...

Anyway, some ppl can wait... but SOME are willing to pay a little premium to have it right away. I can understand paying $1200+ for it now is crazy. That is like twice the price...

Posted by: varunreddy

yeah i guess thats true. But the guy who posted said 799 probably without shipping so thats 150 bucks more and he didnt even post the website so dont know how reputable the guy is. I'd probably buy it for 750 but I got burnt so many times on ebay especially for phones that i'm scared to do any such thing now.

Posted by: Darkflame

Also keep in mind sony erricsson does not honor waranties of international units, I've called them many times to ask them what the deal was and they told me two things.

1. They do not honor warranties for products sold in different markets, you'd have to go through the person you bought it from and have them go through warranty servicing from their market.

2. They do not give warranties for products sold on ebay because they are not authorized sony erricson dealers. If it breaks, sorry, it's been fun. however, some occasions where you've purchased it from someone who has purchased it from SE directly, Again you'd have to go through option 1 to get coverage from a ebay auction.

Also, buying from the source to me is the safest bet, can contact SE directly for help and servicing when your unit needs it, not have to send it to your seller, have him go through the work of going through SE...etc...eliminate the middle man and just do business direct...that's the way to go.

=) that's what phone insurance from my service provider is for... They warranty any phone I have, no questions...

I might not get a P800 (obviously because it's not out yet) in return, but I can always get the phone that is in the same class (the highest phone they carry obviously) which I can always resell and buy another P800 with...

That's assuming they can't fix it locally (after all it's just electronics)... Plus, I don't intend on it breaking... Anyways, if such an expensive phone can break in under 1 year (no dropping it or human fault of course) then perhaps even at $650, it's not worth buying... I think the warranty is only 1 year anyway. And if you drop it and it breaks... haha, no manufacturer warranty is gonna cover that anyway...

I've had like 5 different Ericsson Phones (2 of them were T68is) and none have even had a bad screen on me (like the Nokia 8290 did)...

There is always a price to pay to have exclusiveness and the latest "toys" before everyone else (whether it's a little more money or do away with the 1 year limited warranty). I remember when I had the T68i back in January last year I think? Or was it February? I don't remember, but it was a good 6-7 months later before I saw every teenager in the world carry one...
But hey, I'm not telling you why YOU should buy it now... I'm just answering the question that other guy asked about why ppl would pay a little more when you can supposively get it straight from Sony Ericsson in "2-4 weeks."

To each.... their own... the phone would have been worth every penny if I paid anything for it. Fortunately for me after selling the other P800s I had, it was free...

Hmmm...lucky you. Cingular (or rather lock\line®,LLC) wouldn't insure my Accompli 009, even though it is a Cingular Wireless certified device. I'm hoping that isn't the case with the P800 once it is commercially available in the US.

Posted by: Tr0LL

Really?? haha, maybe I could be wrong then.. Cingular told me when I had the T68i back in January/February 2002 they would replace the phone with a phone in the same class if something were to happen. Obviously, at that time they didn't have the T68i or even know what it was... My T68i never broke on me so I never got to try...

I was probably going to buy from sqtrade for 760 (i think) but i'm waiting because its directly from ericsson. If it was from anyone else i wouldnt have waited.

the site I was talking about is alien wireless and the extension is net please catch my drift here it is not letting me type it in

Posted by: havelock

As I said I bought my 6100 from him and he a reputable guy here in the US. I have known him for a while and done business with him before. I personally recommend him. I know that doesn't mean much coming from someone you don't know but I don't know what else to tell you.

Posted by: varunreddy

I believe u. Wasnt sure when u didnt post the site name but now that u have
U should talk to a modrator or someone about that. I just personally feel that I would rater wait a little and get the phone from SE directly then get it from an unknown and deal with all the hassels that come with it. I've had a few especailly whle buying phones on ebay etc

Posted by: havelock

That is understandable. Are you from india? You live in the US now? I actually have a question about service in India. Does it make since to pay for T-mobile's international service (like $2.99 a minute in India) or can you get a SIM card that allows you to roam all over India while you are there and RECEIVE calls for free from the US? Also how much are the placed calls on a BPL or another service providers SIM?? What would you recommend? I have been to India a couple of times and I am planning a trip now. I have a tri-band phone and I'm trying to figure out the most cost effective way to place and receive calls from there.

Posted by: Darkflame

If my provider had insurance for my phones then I too would jump on the bandwagon right now, hell I might even just get it anyway, it was just a thought that crossed my mind when determining whether or not to wait but I do understand the feeling of having something before everyone else, it is indeed a nice feeling...given it's price, i'm pretty positive even when it does hit the U.S, you're not gonna see every teenager on the block carrying one.

Posted by: digitalic

Yup, SE is starting to get these phones in the US now, and I'm sure not everyone will be sporting this phone... it's not your typical consumer phone that everyone will have...

I am studying here actually. I go back home twice a year during winter and summer breaks.
No it isnt worth 3 dollars a min unless who evers going to call u wouldnt want to pay for a call to india. I buy a pre paid card when I am there. We dont have service from BPL where I am staying. We have Airtel, Idea! and Hutch. I have heard that they are now giving all India roaming on prepaid (unless u go to some rural area where there isnt service). I dont know about the rest but I just found out that hutch does offer roaming on prepaid. U can make and recive calls in some of the major states and in the rest u can revice calls and send sms but cant make calls. I'll will try to find out more info. Which cities/states are you planning to visit?
I use airtel prepaid in Hyderabad, AP and it is Rs1.50/ 30 sec during the day and Rs 0.50/ 30 sec during the night. If you call a land line you will have to pay an aditional charge of Rs 1.20/ 3 min. I am not sure what the roaming arates are though. You can check out www.airtelworld.com and www.hutch.co.in those r the 2 websites that I can remember. Hope this helps. Let me know if u need any more info.

Posted by: Subgunner

Havelock,
I was visiting India a few weeks ago, just like Varunreddy posted, It is not worth it to spend $2.99. You will do much better with the exchange rate and the service from different mobile phone company's. I bought a India roaming number from cellforce and just paid for refill whenever I ran out of time. They have pay as you go system there, and the reception is a lot better then in the US, I have full bars on my Nikia 6310i all the time in any area I went.

Posted by: mcf4ever

I spoke to a SonyEriccson rep at length this morning. She assured me that SE USA would service the warranty, but only after the phone had been released in the US. Until the release you would need to send the phone to the area it originated (HK or wherever). She even took the time to double check to verify because I had heard contrary and that was what had held me back from purchasing one. She stated that they still hadn't been contracted by a carrier for US, to her knowledge. She also told me that they had 5 or 6 to use for customer support and that most of the reps had been using them solely to play the MIB game! Although this seems to contradict what others have been told, this is the info that I got and I hope this info is helpful.

Posted by: tingcrab

Thankx mcf4ever for the info tho.

After I kept browsing this P800 section for a few days, I decided to pre-order with the phone from SE, just because I will get the phone ASAP and asure it has factory warranty. I missed the chance to get one from ebay for $700, but nah, not so sure about returns and repairs and such.

* * *

I also notice that first when P800 was posted for "coming soon" in the SE site, it said as Grey Sliver; then it changed to Bright Sliver and now it changed back to Blue Color. What's going on here I'm guessing they're holding off the Sliver ones and sell the blue one first~ oh well..

* * *

I can't wait for P800 since I'm currently using R380 right now and I'm very satisify of what it's now.

Says Feb 14.

My order is in! Too bad my wife is pregnant, or I'd have to flood this forum with bengalboy/Amy-style bikini pics! :-P

Dang... she's gonna kill me... and to think that I just bought a car kit for my T68i. I guess I can just get the holder/cable and hook up the P800, eh? And my iPAQ 5455 can go back to CompUSA... gotta love that TAP! I'll use the credit toward a new laptop.

Posted by: digitalic

have any of you talked directly to SE about how long the shipment will take? I was speaking to a fellow on the phone a few days ago and he told me anywhere from 2-4 weeks, and today some lady said could be til end of March, what I wanna know is why don't they know when they will receive the p800?? It's not like they're getting these units from a 3rd party, its there own damn company for crying out loud and they don't even know when they will be getting em in? Sigh... anyone else?

Yeah u have to pay for incoming on almost all the prrepaids i've heard of in India. The price info I gave you is the same for incoming and out going except for the Rs 1.20 /3 min for calls to landlines. That is out going only. SMS is Rs 1 per msg. Incoming is free. It will probably differ between different operators and different markets though. I am not sure how much it will be to us. Maybe Rs 20 per min but not sure u should check out the providers websites. If I find out more info I will let u know.

Thanks.
