Please help! Need to upgrade from my E398. Should I go with the SLVR L7 or W810i?

Well guys, i've had my E398 for a couple of years now and I think it's time for an upgrade. I was looking at the Motrola SLVR L7. It appeals to me in the looks department and seems like a step up from the E398. Also, it could be had in my area for about $150.

I then came across the Sony Ericsson W810i and fell in love with its looks immediately. I read up on it and it seems like a nice phone. It's also $200 more than the L7 would be. I can get the W810i for about $350.

What would you do in my situation? I think I would be pretty happy with the L7 but the "wow factor" will be minimal since it's almost exactly like my phone as far as functionality goes. Am I right? Is the W810i worth the extra cash? I have never owned a Sony Ericsson before. Can anyone comment on its MP3 functionality? My E398 plays MP3s as well, but the interface isn't too great to be honest, although it is flashed to E1 ROKR. I was going to purchase a $250 MP3 player, so i'm hoping maybe I can use the W810i as one instead, although it probably doesn't rival a Cowon iAudio 6 (what I was going to get).

Sorry about the long post, just looking to be pointed in the right direction. I know these phones are different but any and all help would be very much appreciated.

If you've had the E398 for a couple of years, then the L7 is pretty much gonna be just like keeping your E398 for a few more years minus the stereo speakers. I'd go for the W810i for the improvement in features as well as UI

The SE blows any Motorola phone with the same features out of the water. Believe me you'll be much happier with the W810 than with the L7.

Essentially the L7 is the Rokr (yours was flashed with iTunes etc, right?) but slimmer and without the stereo speakers.

Also, the L7 is really tall. I think the pictures online are decieving, and you should go and check one out in sotre first. I was about to buy the L7 and I went into Radio Shack to get some random stuff, saw they had one on display, and was shocked with how tall it is.

Also, the iTunes was pretty sluggish on the Rokr and E398, I was playing w/ my friend's L7 and the iTunes is just as slow.

I'd go for the W810 if you can spare the money.

Thanks guys, you pretty much nailed all my thoughts/concerns. I'm going to miss stereo speakers but my phone is on vibrate 99% of the time anyway. I think i'll be going with the W810i unless someone has another suggestion

if you're looking to spend less and don't need the edge or 850 (I noticed you are on Tmo), then you could look at the K750i or the W800

^^^Yeah, that just hit me.

If you want, I'd reccomend using phone scoop to compare the two phones side by side. You can compare a few phones at a time.

Thanks guys. The thing is the W810i REALLY appeals to me for some reason. The K750i is nice too but seems a tiny bit bulky with the camera lens cover. I'll further look into that phone though.

Yessir. I thought I recognized that name.

I was pointed in the directions of howard forums when I kept on asking a bunch of questions about cell phones.

I keep on messing up here too, trying to use OT's smiley's like :wtc: and :wtf:

I've been doing a lot of editing my posts.

And to be completely honest, the W810i is a sick phone, and it appeals to me too. I'm going to save up for one, I've got the moeny right now but I'd like to wait a little bit. It'll be just my luck that 2 weeks after I buy one it'll be released on Cingular and the ebay/retail price will drop 50-60 bucks.

Oh well.

The lens cover on the K750i isn't bulky at all and protrudes about as much as the lens on the W810 does (except there is no cover on the W810)

Does one phone have any real advantage over the other? They seem to be about the same other than looks.

How is the MP3 playback quality on the K750i?

over the K750i, the W810 has edge, 850 and the walkman music player. The K750i has a basic mp3 player, but it is in no way poor. Sound quality is great from both phones but the W810 comes with much better in-ear headphones while the K750 comes with normal earbuds

Well guys I bit the bullet and went for the W810i. Won a local eBay auction. Hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow. I appreciate all the help.

Hopefully it's worth the cash, if not I guess I could always sell it!
