MVNO's suck. the only one that's popular is Boost Mobile. and we all know why that's popular...

Boost Mobile is stirctly prepaid with a prepaid monthly option. How are they a MVNO? I would say either AMPed or ESPN are the most popular but definately Helio is the best.

Boost Mobile uses the Nextel network to provide its services which is why its an MVNO. AMPed, ESPN, and Helio are having serious problems adding subscribers which is having many people question their business models. Helio is actually the worst with confliciting stories that subscription numbers are only in the hundreds or low thousands.

BOOST Mobile is now owned by NEXTEL. It is not an MVNO, anymore then TMO2GOO or GOPHONE is. It is just NEXTEL's PrePaid Offering.
This debate pops up every now and then due to the fact of how BOOST was started in Australia and then was born in the USA. But now it is simply NEXTEL-PrePaid.

What is an MVNO?

A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) is a mobile operator that does not own its own spectrum and usually does not have its own network infrastructure. Instead, MVNO's have business arrangements with traditional mobile operators to buy minutes of use (MOU) for sale to their own customers.

So, it really is a debate of semantics, but I am willing to bet that most industry experts would not say that BOOST is an MVNO.

ok, well maybe boost got bought out by nextel, but it WAS an mvno at one time.
