DVD system noise

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a 1998 Infiniti Q45, and recently i installed a dvd system in it. But now, when i hit the gas pedal just a lil bit it makes like a whisling noise, kinda like an air intake taking in air. the more i hit the gas, the louder it becomes. it comes from the speakers tho its not a mechanical problem. Will a simle filter fix this problem? what should i do?.

(will post pix later when i find my camera )

re-ground the system or any amps

and make sure that all power lines run on one side and ground lines and remote lines run on the other side.

Check your RCA wires. You problem is a typical one that most people have. If you have good RCA wires, you don't necessarily have to run power wires, and RCA's on seperate sides.

On my car I run all my wires on the same side of the car, and I have no problems. Buy triple shielded RCA wires. That's what I have, and they help with static, and interference from other wires.

They'll probably try to sell you a ground filter. It's basically a half-***** way of fixing it.

Guys, lets make sure the content of our posts is germane to the topic at hand to help the fella out.

Im thinking it's a grounding problem. When you step on your gas pedal, it makes your engine churn out more power (alternator is what makes the power and it's connected to your engine via belt). To keep it simple, it's essentially a matter of physics.

Best bet is to follow SlickNsxy and Phuviano's advices. Get some high quality ground cables and make sure they're grounded properly. That SHOULD fix the problem.

ground wires? Yeah you can find them at cartoys or best bizzle or any other retail store like that. Word of advice: find a friend that works at a retail store so they can hook up up with discounts. Wires are marked up more than 70%. Most wires i've seen are marked up about 80%. So a 50 dollar ground wire, the store bought for about 9 bucks. They'll sell it to their employees for about 11-15 bucks. But they'll sell it to the public for the full 50. This goes for ALL CABLES AND WIRES in all applications.

RCAs, check them out at a store that specializes in selling home entertainment systems. For example, good guys, circuit city, fry's electronics. You know, some place that has a major focus on big audio/video equipment. They'll have the good stuff there.

the ground wires are usually the black wires and will be connected to some part of the car. most likely your installer couldn't find a good place to ground (or didn't take the time) and just sanded some part of the car down and grounded it there. If there is even a little bit of paint then you will get this noise.

also like woogie said get better rca's at good guys, best buy, circuit city, etc. I suggest monster cable. A bit pricey, but if you know someone, then get the discount. Either way full price or not...you won't be disappointed in monster. I use them myself in all my cars

so the ground cable u guys are talkin about is the one coming out of the DVD player/CD player/ or the monitors? im confused. where should i look for it?

Posted by: mau108

if this happened after installation of dvd deck then I dont understand what everyone is talking about power and ground wires running on seperate sides....

If your talking about an indash dvd, double check the following

a. The ground wire from the harness is properly grounded and not loose
b. If you soldered the wires or even looped it, make sure you electrical tape around the splice point to ensure that there is no interference.

That should do it.

no its not in dash, its on the headrests, but i have the dvd and cd player up in the dash where the stock player was used to be. the noise came after i installed the dvd player, before dvd player the cd player worked fine.
