they are good because those were resized. if you look at the original picture taken, it isnt as good as 903/904s.

i wouldnt know what to say then.. cause almost every pic in the "Sharp 903 cam pic of hte day" thread are almost all resized.... and based on 2 resized images... k800 vs. 903, id say they're both very close. but k800 wins cause of xenon flash :-D

from the reviews i've seen, the k800 takes decent pics, but there's lots of grain on fullsize.

also keep in mind that this is the 1st firmware version of the k800, future updates will add updates to everything... including the camera.

Yeah, I don't think there's much a difference. The first and third pictures I took in the pictures above was from a test mode 903sh. The second was from Euro fw. I really don't see a difference in camera quality.

Tell that to the K750 owners

The earlier firmware K750 pictures were so-so, but the later firmware upgrades made it take MUCH better pictures.

Remember when it comes to cameras, you need a few things to work as a team.
Optics, sensor, module, and software.

But I agree, full sized K800 pics are quite grainy =/

the 903 still holds the throne in my opinion in camera and video taking ability. the k800 is so expensive cause of its 3.2mp, the 903 has a better 3.2 plus optical zoom plus really good video taking and its been out for what? 1, 2 years?

Man.. Sharp engineering is really something.. a product released almost 1 year ago, still neck to neck if not far better in terms of cam quality compared to Sony the almighty electronics powerhouse..

probably the only phone that can beat the 903SH in overall cam/video perforamnce is the Nokia n93, even that wont be out till end fo the year and its sheer size is atrocious, plus the 903sh is pretty good looking

Well, I was amazed when I saw a Video taken by the N93. 903 can't stand a chance there, unfortunately.

i dare not say, but from specs alone, 93 records at vga video so definitely videos better, not sure if its worse at pictures cuase final production unit isnt out yet, so we cant really tell. production firmware is needed.

sure does, but remember you have to resize it if you want digi looking pics, if not then you get some grainy areas.

i've looked into all sorts of camera phones, and the 903sh spanks them all IMO. one of the reasons i'll be switching from SE to Sharp

i've been using k750 for so long and updated my frimware like 4 times over 10 months and didnt notice that difference in picture quality lot of ppl are talking about since the k800 came out with this imaging quality

they're going for around $480 USD Shipped.. mine was $445 + $35 USD Shipping.

ive only updated the firmware on my k750 2 times, and it changed the camera from 4.4 to 5.3 i believe (i dont know what the hell that means.. but hey.. it changed something

) The only thing that stopped me from getting a 903 instead of the k800 was its size and the deal with all the firmware bugs, i know that Euro is about the best one you can get, or that hybrid firmware, but i didnt want to deal with all that.

well.... not really bugs, but annoying things about certain firmwares...

I.E.: No mp3 ringtones on Hong Kong firmware... (that was the main one for me)

I agree with aaf... about the restrictions, and things you can and can't do with certain types of firmware, some people just want to be able to do anything and everything with their mobile, no restrictions.
The K800 is basically a piece of clay that you can mold into anything you like, open the box and it does anything and everything with no restrictions as far as what you can do with it's appearance, downloads, ringtones, etc...
The camera on the 903 is probably better but it is basically the same for every single mobile phone available "jack of all trades, master of none".

Doesn't the 903 have an actual LENS? and doesn't the K800 use a SENSOR only?

I think an actual lens would take better quality pictures than a sensor...

I can tell you that the K800i does not take pics as well as the 903 in daylight. If you look at K800i pics UNresized you will see intense noise reduction going on (similar to how the 902SH is--remember when we all used to complain about it!!)

The noise supression algorithm SE are using is ruining the pics imo. There is no real clarity or detail in pictures taken. It looks like they could tone it down in a fw update but whether they do and also by how much remains to be seen...

I'll be posting comparison shots of the 903 and K800i on MR tomorrow.

i've owned a 903 with euro fw and one w/ japanese fw, and i honestly don't see a difference in picture quality. maybe it was just that specific unit?

anyways i agree with you, 903 wins overall.

i know we're biased because we're in the sharp forum, but you can just look at the pictures taken; a picture is worth a thousand words right?

k, i got my k800 this morning, was taking some pictures in random conditions, one thing that made me want this more than the sharp 903 was the xenon flash... and wow.... how helpful this thing is... it lights up the whole room perfectly even if its isnt dark outside.. it looks great, te Sharp 903 does take overall better daylight pictures... but i am very happy with my purchase.... :-D

if the sharp 903 had a xenon flash... it would be the all time winner.... it helps out so much when the conditions are poorly lit.... overall with the quality of the pictures i am still impressed... i know its not a digital camera but its definately a lot better than most things.

Yes the k800i is alot better when it comes to taking pics in poorly lit environments. As you can see below the difference is astounding! The only problem with the flash is that with it comes alot of noise.

The k800i only really beats the 903 in night shots. Macro it comes really close but still not as good. Every other condition and the 903 smokes it!

the whole purpose of having a good camera on your phone is convergence. much more convenient to carry just one gadget =)

but i agree...just use a digital camera...best way to get some quality pics.

besides, i don't know if a camera phone will ever be able to match up to a DSLR.

i find the 903sh's shutter speed not fast enough. but if you hold perfectly still, you can get a real nice shot.

oh those are the pictures taken at HK park... The one right on or next to Pacific Place & supreme court in gum chung, which is right next to wan chai... man I miss that park... I used to be there by the fountain alot with my bro, I push my bro in the waterfall and made him get wet heehee :P.....(in the first pic)

All those pics are resized!! Even the pics I've taken with the k800i when resized look good! For a 3.2MP cam that is branded 'Cybershot' and has had almost a year to improve from the technologies used in the 903; it has done a rather piss-poor job!

i like both SE and Sharp phones.... its basically.. Flip phones = sharp
sliders/bar phones = SE ... that's what it is for me.. i'm definitely gonna get my hands on the SE w850 when it comes out... damn that phone is so damn sexy

to me, seeing something branded cybershot = stay away. imo, sony has always made poor quality digital cameras when compared to the likes of nikon, olympus or canon.
